On a limited number of blogs, about 10% we’re testing out a plugin that allows you to have Snap Preview Anywhere (SPA for short) enabled on your blog. SPA is a little widget that shows people a preview of the page on the other end of a link when they hover over it for a few seconds.
I tried it out on my personal blog and really liked it, we’ve had a fair number of requests for it, and we think the Snap guys are fun to work with so we thought we’d give it a go here on WP.com.
If you’re a lucky member of the beta group be sure to send in your feedback about what you think about it to help shape how/if we roll this out for everyone.
Finally if for whatever reason you dislike it, you can disable it for your blog under Presentation > Extras. If you never want to see it again anywhere in the world on any site click on the question mark in the preview box and they have a link that sets a cookie so it won’t show up anymore.
Update: If Snap isn’t on your blog or you only saw it briefly, don’t worry. If you like it just leave a comment and you’ll be first in line for the next stage of testing.
I like it, but is it making my computer slower when searching? I saw my first snap today on my blogs, and I noticed a lag in calling up stuff. Also, it followed me outside of my blog and I noticed a lag there as well. Good product, but I would like to get rid of the delay it’s causing.
I just noticed it today about this great feature. Thank you put me in the test group and I really love it.
Oh my gee, I’m in the 10% Thanks! I will be testing it out!
Very pretty effect, thanks
I would love to be added to snap to it..plllllllease matt please
Ugh, that thing came out of nowhere and hit me like a truck. Totally unexpected. Thanks for adding a tip for removing this in the global announcement.
Nothing personal, I just like my page free of popups and moving parts as it is now. 🙂
I like it and I definitely want snap ASAP.
well i don’t really like it because it is a commercial…. but it might be ok if the “snap” name would dissapear and remains only wordpress.
Ok, now there is the “Extras”, so I deactivated Snap.
I… LOVE…. IT….
Thanks.
This is awesome – love it
I’m NOT a fan of it, so thanks for the option to deactivate it.
I like Snap! I’d like to keep it too. Looks good, and saves time with preview. Hope to see more of quality stuff like this from you, guys..
Hope some of you checks my site!
Coolness! I just discovered it and I definitely want to keep it! 😉
Really like it!! Thanks! Makes my blog look real professional.
I just found it on my blog and I like it. 😉
Thanks for adding it to my blog. I was just reading about it on another blog and was looking to figure out how to install it. Don’t need to now. I like it so far. Hope you add more stuff like this. Some people may not like the gimmicks but some do and they have a choice to add it or not. Great work keeping WordPress current!!
I noticed it yesterday and I love it!!!
Snap is good. Thanks. Works fast and isn’t intrusive.
One minor little thing: Snap doesn’t seem to work if the blog is in an IFrame.
It’s a great feature. I an willing to try it.
SPA is really cool and I want to thank you for adding this feature! Keep up the good work 😉
I dont have it 😦 Why?
I loved the new Snap feature. It’s great for people with alot of links. Little slow to open on some links, but hey, it’s beta! Loved it. Thank you, thank you!
Love it. I only saw it briefly but would love to see it permanently on my blogs.
Thanks for a great feature!
I’m one of the “lucky” guys. I’d prefer if I’d known about me being lucky. Besides that, I don’t like it too much. It’s a neat feature for sure, but it’s annoying for links that are anchored at an image and pages with many links. It’s impossible to navigate such pages. Additionally, /me doesn’t like that some 3rd party website gets to know which links I am clicking (or might be clicking) because I’m doing through their embedded features. I disabled the stuff for general use.
It should be more customizable in adding it manually to chosen links by a page’s author, and by the user. There should be a big “disable Snap pop-ups” in the preview window. It shouldn’t be hidden in some options menu. Besides from that, it’s a nice toy that might be very handy if used properly.
Thank you guys. I’ve been wanting to put in my blog for a while and now I have it. This is really great.
It’s a nice feature! It would be a better feature if we had the option of turning it on or off on individual links though.
‘Thank you Matt. It’s there on my blog and I, in any case, had wanted to include it on by blog, as I had seen it being used elsewhere. I could not do so earlier because of the limitations you have put on wp.com users. Thanks again.
Correction: works on an IFrame just fine. Cheers.
Thanks Matt! I likey.
Wow, this thing is really annoying. I’m glad I can disable it.
Really did not like this feature and disabled it after i had a couple of ppl complain.
Its just annoying in my opinion….
I snapped it up the moment I saw Snap It on the web, but find that it needlessly interferes with my Google search. Sometimes it has a magical touch with its popup windows, but not always! It needs to improve a lot.
Just got it today and love it…
Thanks guys!!
Charles
Definitely not right for my blog. I tend to dislike these poups boxes. Very annoying and seem to detract from the purpose of the visit. So I highly doubt I will be using it.
I hated it and the hits on my site meter…it’s annoying. Like a pop up. I turned it off.
I love this widget! It’s great for my blog. I like to see a preview first; it saves so much time. USA.gov has a similar feature. Thanks! (Don’t take it away!) 🙂
Hi,
I noticed that I am one of the few that have it.
I like it till now…glad to have it 🙂
I’d love to get access to it as soon as possible. Thanks!
I think it’s absolutely gorgeous!
I’m impressed by how fast the previews show up as well!
Kudos to you both!
very cool feature! thanks for making us part of your 10% 🙂
So far everyone who’s seen the snap capability have had nothing but praise for it. I really can’t see why anyone would have a problem with this feature being included in your service. It has appeal and does not detract from the user experience but rather it adds to it in a rich and pleasant way.
fantastic. great little feature.
Hi every one,
I am new one with blogs. But not new with websites I know hassle of web pages are loading time. Its Good approaches in Web Engineering that word Press adopted.
I have GOT to get me one of those! I love that feature.
i have just seen snap to it and found your blog. i want to test this feature in my blog too:-) were can i get it?
Matt,
Maybe you should just keep it on your personal blog. I didn’t ask for Snap to be added to my blog, and I don’t appreciate it being an opt-out feature. One of the reasons I came to WordPress was the no-nonsense simplicity of the site.
I actively encourage users to block this crap.

Snap is absolutely wrong! I don’t like it and I disabled it on my blog… I also don’t like that this “feature” was implemented without warning, with opt-in enabled by default.
I don’t want it, it is distracting and annoying. How do I turn it off when visiting sites with this “feature”?
I like Snap !
thanks for making us part of your 10%
Yup. LOVE it.
I don’t care for it. It distracts from my content, and that’s something that I would prefer not to happen.
It’s on my blog, and I love it!
If there are not WordPress I can not meet snap . Now I’m adding it all my site. I think it can be usefull for seo.
