If you have the recent comments widget on your blog you might have noticed a small change to it this afternoon. Now, next to each comment link is the avatar of the person who left the comment.
By default the widget will display 48x48px avatars but if it’s not to your tastes, then visit your widgets page and you can change the size of those images, and even disable them if that suits.
Happy Fourth of July to all our US users, and as Automattic is an international outfit, there’s still someone here bashing away at the keys and keeping an eye on things!
Glad you told me, I thought it was something I had done!
Think I will make them a bit smaller, they seem to swamp my theme
That is nice, thank you! 🙂
Where is the user guide to keep-off those avatars ?
this is fantastic. now i can’t hide my faces. lol.
I agree with ann, now avatars are visible it brings more the idea of a community. It is a small change that creates better blogging environment!
Amazing, thanks a lot! 😀
really cool!!!!!!!1
Yay! Thank you!
Very cool ! I like it, in fact WP.com is the best blogging system of the many that I have tried. Keep up the good work.
Good….. Nice make me happy….coz that 🙂
Yup, just noticed it! Cool!
It would be nice if we could set avatars for non-WP users to just not display at all. But overall you guys = awesome.
Good, Job…
Saw it today..is a great thing..
Thanks.
Fantastic! Thanks WordPress!
hey thats good i think hehe
Great !
Thankx
Great addition! Thank you!
cool!!!thankss!!!
That’s Great ,,,
Thanks ,,,
Cute! I like it.
Neat.. It makes so much more interesting, when you have a face for the comment..
Hate it.
so cool. WordPress keeps getting better and better.
great!
Thank you.
It’s fine with the avatars, but it gives problems at my blog at the moment so things doesn’t fit in at the moment…
why do they let you make widgets?
first the flickr widget, now this one:
WHAT IS YOUR OBSESSION WITH TABLES?
an avatar is not tabular data, any more that the post, or the name of the commenter are.
Great feature!
Yeah I noticed it and think it looks cool 🙂
Cool!
Glad this came with the option to turn off!
Thank you for giving us the ability to not have the avatar show up. I saw it and didn’t like it that much. I’d gladly trade my comments avatars for my ‘feed stats’ back.
jb
very cool
Nice. I really am loving wordpress. It’s fantastic.
Great job indeed! There’ll be more features coming up I guess.
Great feature, but now you should develop some tool for blog admins ,to put avatars of people who give comments… 🙂
Cool!
THANK!
YOU!
That makes it look more interesting and informative. Thanks.
yeah!
I like the little avatars too….
I love the new avatar powered recent comments.
But as many others said. Do s.th about the icon of non-WP posting users please. The image doesn’t fit very well in some of the WP Themes.
There’s the suggestion to let the non-WP users decide which icon appears next to their name when posting. But I would prefer a more user configurable approach.
Let the blog owner decide which icon fits most for his blog/theme.
Let him/her upload an icon to his/her blog which can be chosen in the widgets preferences as an icon for non-WP user or users who don’t have chosen an icon already.
It’s perty 🙂
Love it!! Helps keep them sorted out.
You guys are proving you are WordPress once & twice again ;
Nice thing.. I just realized that there is something new in the comment widget.
YEAH!!!!!!!
Better than sliced bread!!!!!
What a great addition!
Very Useful.
Thanks
Oh I want to see my avatar =)
Interesting! A nice touch indeed 🙂
I like it. In fact, I just uploaded my own avatar this evening! What timing!
Cool!
Nice feature! :D:
Good idea but I like them a bit smaller.
Sorry, I’m not a fan. If non-Wordpress folks’ avatars would show, that’d be a different story. But right now, it’s just distracting.
its really cool
Just tryin’ it out. Never mind the crazy foodie. thx
Forgive me if as usual I do not join in the euphoria. The avatars in recent comments are marked up with a table based layout for heavens sake. And the CSS is in the header. There go standards.
Well, you guys are great!
cool
Great!
Thanks for the tip, it was helpfull
Going to play with the size before I decide about disabling it or not. Thanks for the options and as always, thanks for coming up with new features for us. Even when we don’t want them, someone else probably does and so that’s why WP is great. Everyone gets to be happy.
Yippie. Can we please get feed stats back now?
me encantó la idea!!!
♥
yea awsome 🙂 its kool.. :)~
kool
i dont get it!
that one was good… kewl…!! tx guys!!
Ironically I uploaded an avatar before reading the about the comments widget, but now I’ve got to comment to see it in action!
Nice!
wow.. i m loving it,,
thx guys,,, great work..
proud of WP..
🙂
Like it.
yeah thats nice… WordPress Rocks 🙂
Useless. 99% of all comments are from external users who don’t have an avatar.
What is really needed is the feature of wordpress.org: whoever posts a comment can chose to receive by email further comments to same post.
When I commen t to posts which do have that feature, I recieve follow ups on my coments and often get back to give further answers.
^^ Good luck everybody
nice 🙂
Brilliant… Even though i think making them a tad smaller wouldn’t hurt!
cool.. I cant wait to get this.. spread the smileys
I like the change.
Thanks for constantly keeping me on my toes 🙂
Thank you for making this feature optional, including the size options.
For the future, any way the new features’ default can be off, then alert us how to turn it on? This feature was not as disrupting as Snap Preview, but since these types of features affect readers, I would prefer to know in advance about them
Cool! 🙂
Nice!
thnx
yay! i just joined and saw this, got one
Very pleased to see my avatar.
Nice touch…..
wordpress never ceases to amaze me…. your innovations in the blogging world is entirely on a different level!!!! excellent job!!!
I noticed it and was thrilled with it. I posted about it, too. Except, I misunderstood. I thought there was a way I could upload the pictures for the non-WP sillies. Now I feel silly, myself, because I have a couple pictures that commenters sent to me for upload, and I can’t. 😦
I think it’s a great idea, though, and appreciate your work on it!
All the avatars look great, including the wordpress ones. I like the idea of being able to choose something besides the generic gray silhouette too.
Nice work! Thx!
THNX WORD PRESS
Kewl
thats some very good feature..
thanks..
? people are weird 😡
well done! WordPress rulez!
