Regular updates are what blogging’s all about, but sometimes you want to keep hot topics or other static info at the top of your posts. This feature has existed as Sticky Topics in the forums, but hasn’t been available on blogs. Until now.
In the publishing options for each post you’ll now see “Stick this post to the front page.”

Check that box, click Publish and — ta da! — your post is highlighted at the top of your blog, where it will stay until you decide otherwise.

When your fresh stuff gets stale, just edit the post and uncheck the box. Click Save and it’s back to its place in chronological order.
Pretty fantasticky.
Sweeet!
AAh.. At last. I was wondering why we did not have this earlier! 😀
I guess I’ll put my 1 cent in. FANTASTIC IDEA!!!!!! LOVE IT!
Good idea! I can now reintroduce my old favorite entries [selecting each by week to indicate “the post of the week” (if we can only have an option to name the sticky post as “post of the week, moth, etc.)] to those who may not read them without making my homepage longer as it has been these days.
Thanks a lot WP for the conspicuous improvements — at all times.
I hope to see more exciting news like this.
I am not one to want to leave one post at the top, however, I did want to do a post to my other blog because I wanted some feedback over there. Well, the sticky post seems to have totally solved that. The alternative would have been not to post for a few days.
Gonna try it right now!
anyone else think Heather’s hot? o.O
Sticky Post Sucks!!, when i try to use it all my widgets are deleted and totally messed up
We are experiencing a caching bug with some of the sidebar widgets, but it isn’t related to Stickies. If this happens again, please send us a support request so that we can take a look.
Perfect feature. I will use it right now!
Wow. This enhanced feature confirms once again the superiority of WordPress. Thank you.
Beautiful!
that’s what we’re waiting for
Excellent! Thank you!
FINALLY………THANK YOU
Excellent, thank you – I was just trying to figure out an alternative to this a few weeks ago, without success.
If you also bring back feed stats and add an option to search tags alone I’ll be one seriously happy camper 🙂
ok, i like it very much
My friend left wordpress for another blogplatform for the free ads, and she said wordpress is still better. I think it is the best.
Thumbs up! 🙂
cool ! thanks :O)
Oh Heather… 🙂
What a cool feature, and now as I can see, we’re use the same theme!
I like them, the theme and this feature.
Very good!
Thanks so much
This is a realistic functionnality ! Keep the pressure on 😀
Fantastic – so useful! thank you
Thank you, WordPress! You guys rocks my socks! 🙂
Been wanting such a feature for ages! I never liked the Top Posts widget much.
If only you knew how long I hav elonged for this capability, you would start running before I kiss your feet
On second thoughts, I don’t think this feature is all that hot, because I was expecting a kind of widget in the sidebar. That would have helped a great deal.
Wow!
I already took advantage of this new option, as I own a blog that needs multiple sticky posts in several of its categories.
So far, it has worked wonderfully. However, I found a small problem: my “recent posts” widget shows the new posts (that aren’t set as sticky) only right under the first sticky post. Why do I consider this a problem? Because as I’ve said, my blog needs multiple sticky posts on several of its sections, and therefore, my widget will be crammed of sticky posts, and as a result, when I post new stuff that is not meant to be set as sticky, the new posts won’t show on the widget 😦 and my readers won’t know if I updated my blog.
It looks like I’ll take off the “recent posts” widget until I figure out how to overcome this small inconvenient.
I’ll appreciate any help from you folks 🙂 many thanks in advance… cheers!
This one is bang on! Way to go!
very cool! 🙂
I think it’s a very good idea!

Excellent. This can help when you want to focus on one specific topic. I have one post to try 🙂 .
Is it possible to have a deadline for a post to be sticky ?
Love it! I’ve been wanting this feature for months and was actually going to have a designer change my template to incorporate it into my site. Now I don’t have to wait. Thank you WordPress! You’re the best!
I can’t wait to try this!

I love it. thanks to you all 😉
this is interesting. i dont know if i’ll be using it much but it sounds very helpful, esp. if one is appealing for donations or something. very very nice.
Cool 🙂 Thx.
I LOVE THAT!!! THANKS!!!! : )
I have had to hack my themes to get this to work before – great to see its now a feature.
Nita, I’m not sure you understand – why would a sticky post (appears at the top of the blog – above all the other posts) be in the sidebar?
Thanks
I love sticky’s for forums. I’m not sure what content I will sticky on my blog though. Nice addition nevertheless. And I agree with Nita, a widget would have been nice.
Great! 😎
I love this! Thank you.
AWESOME addition! 🙂 Really like this idea.
I have a suggestion/request tho, instead of the whole post stuck in, it would be tons better if the sticky were just the title and link to the post, otherwise it interferes with the freshness of the site….
Thanks,
Chandra
EXCELLENT NEW FEATURE WordPress development staff! I’m already using it on one of my blogs! THANK YOU!
Very grateful !!!!
its really good thing
Since I just start blogging recently I haven’t needed this feature yet, but it sounds like it will definetly come in very handy.
Thank you wordpress
Nice and useful!
nice!
wonder if it will work with my theme: Unsleepable by Ben Gray ?
is it a normal post but stays at the top of the pile of posts or does it look different to all the others and stays on top of the pile of posts?!
scared to try it incase i can’t undo it!
@hoh: Fear not the unknown 😉 Sticky posts look slightly different on each theme, but on each they are in some way distinct from regular posts. If you’re ever unsure about a post, you can always preview it before you publish, or publish it as private. Rarely will you be unable to undo something — unless it’s deleting your blog.
Nice! great feature!
