Regular updates are what blogging’s all about, but sometimes you want to keep hot topics or other static info at the top of your posts. This feature has existed as Sticky Topics in the forums, but hasn’t been available on blogs. Until now.
In the publishing options for each post you’ll now see “Stick this post to the front page.”

Check that box, click Publish and — ta da! — your post is highlighted at the top of your blog, where it will stay until you decide otherwise.

When your fresh stuff gets stale, just edit the post and uncheck the box. Click Save and it’s back to its place in chronological order.
Pretty fantasticky.
NIIIIIIIIIIIIIce.
Nice Feature.
Is there a way to make the Sticky Post appear at the bottom of the first page, like a kind of Footnote? I’ve seen some blogs which have a ‘permanent post’ at the bottom and some with a ‘disclaimer’ as the last post on the page. I know it would be a wierd thing to have but just an idea 😐
This is a very good improvisation. It serves to keep posts highlighted.
Man, I was just wishing for this, and you implemented it! I didn’t tell anyone I wanted it, but you guys read my mind!
Just to add to my previous comment… After I tried it out…
It would have been good if “Sticky Posts” is offered as a sidebar widget. Or if it has to be retained in the present form (i.e. as the first post on the home page) then, it could be the first few lines of the sticky post. In this present form, it creates confusion as an old post comes right there right on top, and remains there too, with the actual new ones buried down.
If it is offered as a sidebar widget, then it works like Top Posts, with the advantage of the author having the option to pick them unlike the existing Top Posts widget.
Sticky Posts is a very good idea. But, please think over the current placement and its mode.
Nice feature, haven’t used it yet but hope to. Thanks
Yap! Yap!
Ohhh….really really thanks.
Awesome.. but I was also hoping to have something that will allow me to change a Post into a Page.
Thank’s so much for this add-on. You Rock \m/

You are rocks guys!
Stickies are a good idea, um, Heather. 😀
But how do you take sticky posts down if you already published them? Do you have to delete them or, um, ‘un-sticky’ them, I guess?
Just thinking the other day about when you guys were going to do this. COOL!
Crafty feature WordPress!
This is awesome.
Brilliant! Have just added a sticky to http://www.mindworksblog.com As is often the case I’ve got problems with a photo I added via the wysiwyg editor, but you didn’t really want to see the photo: trust me on this!
Thanks a billion! I’ve been longing for this feature for the longest time.
i was just thinking about this feature and thinking how i have to change the time stamp, regularly to keep a post on top, but walla !!! …. Here it is !!! Thank you
cool, thank you 🙂
I don’t see it…do I update my domain wordpress to see this option?
Thanks, you are the hottest babe of wordpress lol.
Hi, great but I do not see this feature in post area, just “keep this post private” and no ” Stick this post to the front page”. How can I turn this on or what WP version has this? Thanks, I am using WP 2.6.2
@Tran Tinh: If you’re using a self-hosted WordPress.org install you can use the plugin based on WP-Sticky. Sticky Posts will be formally rolled out with Version 2.7 for WordPress.org.
AWESOME!!! Gracias!
Always so much new stuff coming out! It is really hard to keep up!
Thanks again for this new feature. I’ve been using it for the last couple of days and the only problem I have found was that (at least in the theme I’m using) all headline titles within the post get the dark blue background added. It is quite fixable though, just take out the coding for headlines within the post.
Fantastic!!! You guys are legends. 😀
cool… just learn more detail about wp.
That’s cool! Will be trying it out – thanks
This looks good.. let me try now..
Pretty Fantasticky indeed! Can’t wait to try it out
Keep up the good work 🙂
Fantasticky! I love WordPress.com more from day to day.
This is great! Thanks for always offering good things for us.
I’ve already used the “sticky” feature to promote a new feature on our blog. In the past I had to do this manually. Thanks.
Forum / CMS like feature 🙂
Wow
How many sticky posts can we have in the front page?
Nice feature, that I am looking for.
4 Thumbs up WordPress and way to go!
@pkab: As many as you like!

Cool concept! Love it! Thanks for sharing!
YES!!! FINALLY!!!!! THis is so great! THANK YOU WORDPRESS!!! Now can we have a two column theme with a really clean look and a BIG WIDE header to customize…PLEASE!!?? THANKS GUYS! WordPress continues to get better and better!
Whoooo Yea Thanks word press!!
its would be nice if the post will stick permanently even if the readers open the next page/previous page. just my 2 cents..
Very Cool! Love it already! This will help on my blog a lot! 🙂 Thanks WP!
impressive, thanks a million
The only problem I have is that the sticky post does not look sufficiently different from the regular ones. I mean, yes, it has a different background color and all, but still it is possible for readers to wrongly think the blog has not been updated (since the sticky post is always on top).
My suggestion would be to make the sticky post of a smaller width and maybe a slightly different font or something, so that it looks like a notice, and not a post at all.
nice 😉
Bow Wow!
The feature sounds scrumptious…let me chew upon it for a while! I want my new posts to be at the top! Currently I add a link (a small PS para) at the end of the new post, when I want my readers to see some older but freshly relevant mouth-watering chicken-aroma spewing post!
Sticky posts would be nice (they could be a great help on a dull day, when I all I want to do is sit in my box and munch a bone,). I could dig out a great timeless post from my buried treasure, and stick it at the top. The new visitors then don’t have go away disappointed…with their tails and ears drooping low!
I still need to dig deeper to find some more great uses for it – Thanks “1minutebookreviewswordpresscom”:) Your thoughts did inspire!
Thanks again, my dear industrious humans of wordpress, for the wonderful new features that you keep introducing!
Happy Wags,
Oorvi
agree with abhishek
Very cool!
Is there a way to make just the Title sticky with a link to the full post, rather than having the entire thing up there? This is great! but some of the most popular topics on my blog are attached to the longest posts…
really Sticky 🙂
Great idea
Hey! good feature.
Well, what more can I say? I surely agree this is another fanta-stick little stuff. 🙂
You really are some progressivistic sticklers, guys! You stickhandle every improvement well. Stick it out all the way to the future, WP..! I’m with you. 😉
A much needed feature makes its welcome entry. Good work!
a know it before
