When you login to write a new post, you’ll notice a new icon above the text editor next to the “Add media” section: an orange lollipop.
Click that icon, and you’ll be greeted with a new polling feature — the result of our integration with the newest member of the Automattic family, the PollDaddy service. Here’s an example poll:
Now whenever you do a post you’ll be a few clicks away from having your own poll, and you can have as many as you like! We’re also going to be working on a lot more styles and customization of the polls, so you’ll be able to match it exactly to the look and feel of your blog.
Most of the Automattic team is in Breckenridge, Colorado, right now for our twice-yearly get together (including PollDaddy and Intense Debate folks!). Over the next week or two you should see some cool projects we’re working on start to come out. In the meantime, here’s a picture of us dealing with altitude sickness:

Handsome group, eh? These are the folks who work every day and night to make your blogging experience absolutely tip-top. I couldn’t imagine working with better people, and I’m thankful every day.
Nice feature!
cool!
Hi,
Thanks for the easy to use poll! Just what I needed to add to my blog. But does it only display on our blog or is there a larger index of existing polls somewhere?
@Madison Woods: We haven’t begun a poll repository yet, but we’ll consider the idea. Thanks for the suggestion!
perfect,thanks
good work guys, thank you!
@Krisu: Thanks for the recommendation on enhancing the functionality of embedded polls. We’ll try to work that into a future release.
I’ve already tried Poll in my blog and I found some lacks in it. You may create a poll and add it to the post but there is no way to show the final results. The poll doesn’t either let you set the ‘dead line’ so that the poll won’t allow votes any more. If I create a poll in PollDaddy’s page, it’s possible. So please, correct the poll , it’s so nice!
Can we have a poll widget? Is there one already?
Nice one. Now I can get answers to questions without having a load of comments (not that I hae a load anyway (18 hits…rock on me!)
Bravo Mat, Thank you very much.
I hope so many people can visit our prifile
Might be cool to include a handful of innovative or interesting uses of the new poll feature.
@Heather: That’s why I failed math.
Can we add them in the sidebar say if the poll is about the site and not a individual post?
You do a great job, folks ! God bless !
Howdy! This family is large! How long have they been around?
@bollyman: Automattic has been around since 2005.
it’s great..thx
It would be a nice addition.
That was way 2 cool! I just want to learn how to do that!!
Excellent extra resource. I would love to know how many blogs that are talking about the election are using this feature.
The Poll idea is another fantastic feature…well done guys. But I just encountered one problem. I started a Poll last October 19th and until yesterday (29th October) I could read the results on how many voted. I went on the write>clicked on the orange icon and got the results. But now my results vanished as if I never had a poll before. I keep being asked to create a poll. What happened? Please help as I would like to pubblish the results before the weekend. Tks guys
Not sure why my comments get held in moderation so long. In any event, the problem seems to be resolved.
it looks a little good
Isn’t it possible to add the Poll into Widgets?
Omar asks why there are so many males…I’m wondering why are there so few people of color? Not so representative of the North Californian demographics…interesting.
@ therealsouthkorea: Though Matt and a handful of employees are in Northern California, Automattic does not actually have an office. Our employees are distributed around the globe. The people you see in the picture above include Americans, Australians, Canadians, Eastern Europeans, and of course the aforementioned Irish additions. That’s why our group doesn’t look like the typical Northern Californian company.
Great! is there any chance that you could make a choice to make it right-to-left for Arabic ?.
Hey, That poll is not fitting on my sidebar! 😦
Hye..as great as this poll thing is, i cant seem to put it in my post. Any help? or tips maybe?
Great feature! I can’t wait to add it to my posts. One question though…If I wanted to put the same poll (say: Did You Agree? Yes or No) on all my posts, is there a way to do put it on all at once or do I have to create a seperate poll for each post?
@djtim: You’ll need to create a different poll for each post. If you just copy and paste the shortcode multiple times, it will be treated as one poll, and all of the answers will be tallied together cumulatively (in other words, it won’t clear out to zero each time you post it).
I love the polls! Question though. If you allow a poll to be “multiple select”, the totals it shows (and percentages) are the total number of *votes*, not the total number of *voters* – which some of my readers complain is deceptive, and it makes it impossible to figure out if x% of “people” are in favor of something.
Example – who likes cupcakes, twinkies, fruitpies. If it’s multiple select you can’t find out even how many people voted – if you let them vote for multiple options then they count as 1, 2, or 3 votes.
Is there a way to set a poll with multiple select to count voter, not votes?
Great work guys! Thank you. Is there any way to add polls to WP widget?
