As you may know, we’ve been working behind the scenes on the design and development of version 2.7 of the WordPress software that powers your blog. The administration interface you’re used to will be changing as a result of your feedback and the results of the usability testing we conducted over the summer. Version 2.7 is due to release officially on November 10 (Update: at the end of November), but in the meantime, we’re posting sneak previews of the look and functionality to come. So far we’ve covered the new navigation system and the new Dashboard. If you want to get an early idea of what you can expect come November, head over to the WordPress.org blog and check out The Visual Design of 2.7 and The New 2.7 Dashboard.
We’ll be publishing more descriptions of how things will work over the next couple of weeks so that when the change comes it won’t be a complete surprise. We’re also working on new Help materials that you can use for reference (replacing FAQs, screencasts, etc.) while you adjust to the new structure. Overall, the response so far is that the new interface is easier to use, and that it’s faster to access the screens people use most, so hopefully once you’ve checked out the posts linked above, you’ll be as excited for the launch of 2.7 as we are.
I have certainly been impressed with WordPress since joining the fray and good luck with the new developments.
Very Nice!
Thank you Wp 😛
Now i’m waiting for it! I Love You WordPress!!
looking forward for it!
How about new designs for us newbies who want a new look for the blog? And don’t want to pay alot for someone to design it.
Hey!
Thanks for the updates
can’t wait 🙂
We’re waiting…
I am quite used to the current layout, will be bit of a surprise for me though. 🙂
i love it 😉
I don’t see the full screen button on the new post UI, does this mean that full screen edit mode has been removed? It’s enough of a pain already writing for non fixed-width templates in the current WP version, if full screen mode is removed it will make it even more of a pain.
@Brian Lutz: The tinyMCE buttons will be exactly as now. Fullscreen will still be an option 🙂
I can’t wait until it goes online. Judging from the screenshots, Dashboard looks much cleaner. Also, the text entry screen has more options for customizing text.
Two words, AWE-SOME!
CAN”T WAIT!!
Looks great…looks like it represents a ton of work, and not a few pounds of love…
Great work that I can see so far. This is one of the things I really appreciate about the organization behind WordPress. They don’t sit on their laurels. They keep looking for improvements; and, they make them.
amazing to waiting born wp 2.7
Ok Thanks for let me know.
ayos! very good!
great!! can’t wait
Re alien earthling’s request a few comments back, WordPress.com right now allows widgets from a couple of music services: lala and grooveshark. You can see examples in recent posts at my blog (click on my name to get there).
really excited… i am waiting for it…………..
Ugh.. can’t wait for it 😀
Waaay to go wordpress!
Is there a WordPress MU 2.7 coming soon?
socialcoop: There should be a 2.7 MU version not too much later than the regular 2.7 launch.
Very Excited !!!!!!!! 😉
Waw… It’s Great!
can you include a twitter update widget oh that would help me so much just for my updades
@despain05: Check out this page of the FAQ for information on using Twitter in a widget.
You are moving too quickly for a novice blogger, but it does teach me much, thanks for the improvements.
Struggling to keep up (but I enjoy the challenge)
b
thanks jane, I Sitin until November 10! 😉
Sounds great, I’m sure there will be a lot of great improvements.
I wonder if media rendering will be improved? Every time I upload a .wmv the sound is behind the video (but it’s not a problem with the files themselves, I’ve checked!) .mov works so I use that right now.
jseekamp: We ran out of time (our list of improvements was super long), so all media functions will be getting an overhaul in version 2.8, scheduled for February.
Also… full screen videos for wide-screen monitors??? 🙂
I’m excited!
i cant wait, new surprise form wp ?
great, I love you guys, I hope i get to play more with respect image, video and other multimedia experience.
am i the only one that face the problem of SUPER slow while working with WordPress?? included posting and viewing?? hope the new version will improve this.
How can I know wich country are my visitors from? Will it be able with the new version?
jsnagore: The stats you see are powered by the WordPress.com stats plugin, which is currently undergoing a revision of its own. When the new stats features are available, we’ll post about it here.
nice design Thanks for the information
Amazing! Thank you, WP! We’re looking for it. :]
intense fun awaits, too bad the debate on my blog is totally far from intense (rats!)

sounds great, can’t wait.Any upgrade for longer video?
looking forward 🙂
you guys are amazing!
You guys are always done great work! Can’t wait till November 10.
But I don’t see “kitchen sink” in screenshoot. Will paste from Word not necessary anymore? And where is text color tool?
Brahmanto Anindito: The visual editor will remain the same as it is now. You can disregard the different icons used in the design mockup as they were just placeholders.
Can’t wait for it…
Looks like I am about to learn something new to do with this box that they call a computer! lol I’m looking forward to it! 🙂
it’s look good…
Very nice! we cannot waiting.
Thank you for the hard work. One thing I could really use, when you get around to it, is a more developed editing function. I haveto prepare my posts outside of wordpress, and then paste it in. I guess I could look up all the codes for font sizes, and colors, but it is easier to use an outside source that automatically converts what I want rather than typing in a lot of html. Thank you again. marianne
Wao, that’s great…!!! I like this menu system and very very nice design. We hope that WP not only changes the new style but make a different blog system with other. I want to know what is the important feature and great feature in this new style?
Anwar Riksono: Many of the new features were listed in the post. Additional features will include comment threading and paging.
this is so awesome
Wow, thanks!
looks great. Progress is a good thing.
still waiting for 😀
jane , i hope it will become better and at least the best =)
greetings from germany
Impressed as I am with what I’ve seen of the new design, I’m even more impressed by your decision to announce it well in advance like this, rather than springing major changes on the WP.com-using public unannounced as has been done in the past.
This is cool!
I can’t wait! The is_sticky() function alone is going to be worth it for us!
cool.. ^_^
I am in love with WordPress. Absolutely in love. I have a my own blog here, and decided to get my own site as well.
Thank you so much for your continued development!
Cant wait, looks awesome.
I’d love it if ya’ll could figure out what changes you’re going to make and then leave it alone. It seems like every other day my posts get screwed up because you made a subtle change (like the default position of a button that I’m not used to using because it was right for me before you changed it).
Donkephant: We’re trying to do a better job of testing ideas before implementing them to reduce the stress of interface changes. You can read more about the testing we did on 2.5 and the prototype that led to 2.7 over on the development blog: http://wordpress.org/development/2008/10/usability-testing-report-25-and-crazyhorse/
Thank you
very nice
cool, looks very nice. its turning more and more to a complete operable plattform.
looking forward!
lockeporter: The current space upgrades we offer should be able to handle any length video.
Man that looks pretty. I only joined WordPress a couple of months ago, and already I’ve seen numerous changes and advancements made.
Kudos on keeping this thing so active.
i cant wait..!
can’t wait!!! more power guys!!!!
Cool! I am looking forward to it!
Thanks so much for that! 😀
Excellent!
But, he could have more buttons in the “design editor”, something like insertion of tables and anchors.

Goodie!
Waiting for it…….. It is good.
waow…I can’t wait..
Waiting for it.
Will there be an icon to edit font size?
Brad Beaman: There is no icon for font size in 2.7, as the TinyMCE editor is remaining the same as in 2.6. However, we will be re-evaluating which buttons to display for 2.8, so you can expect a poll sometime in the next month or two asking which WYSIWYG functions are the most important to include.
great 😀
Nice news
thank you all
Can’t WAIT!!! Looks good! I like the quick post idea.
Looking forward to it 😀
yay! i am looking forward it since it’s my first update i will ever experience! 😀
