You’ve probably gotten tired of hearing about it from us, but the day has finally come and the new dashboard is finally here. It’s now immediately available to everyone on WordPress.com.
Change is always tricky, but pretty much everyone who has already switched to the new design and layout (that we affectionately call Crazyhorse) prefers it after a day or two of using it.
Why is that? Well aesthetics are a matter of taste, and you might like or dislike the new look, but speed is not.
A big focus of this redesign was making everything faster. It loads faster. It’s faster for you to navigate. And nearly every possible task in WordPress now takes fewer clicks than it used to.
This means we can get out of your way and you can focus on what matters: your writing, your comments, your readers, your blog.
So take a few minutes to explore around, there are a ton of new features for you. Try rearranging your dashboard, or your write page. Click the arrows in the menu to expand modules and navigate faster. Go to your profile and turn on keyboard shortcuts for comment moderation. Poke and prod! 🙂
For those following along at home, this new dashboard is going to be available as the 2.7 release on WordPress.org sometime next week. But because we update things so frequently here on WordPress.com, version numbers don’t apply as much.
Support is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if you have any problems, and as always completely free. (Give us a little extra time to reply though, we’ll probably get a lot of folks contacting us.)
Love, Matt and the tireless WP team
I love the new dashboard very much!! What would help it look even more cool are some themes (like make it blue, black, pink etc.). I really love it! Thanks!!
it’s very beautiful… 🙂
It looks great!!
Wow !! Very nice !!
I like it ^^
yes yes, i love the new design too. its a lot convenient! thanks!
thanks for matt & co’s.
the new design is AWESOME! i absolutely LOVE it! ❤
heartfelt gratitude to all you guys!
[the only inconvenient thing is that it takes me more time to load the dashboard – nearly 3mins – omg! x”x]
Perfect! Many thanks WP. Brazil loves it. Keep going always. Let’s get the next step.
WP rock!
Cool stuff!
Thanks WordPress! 🙂
Good very good, coz i had been struggling for a few days with the dashboard.
thanks very much.
btw, is the new dashboard affect the access speed ? Its seems my comp getting slower when i open wp-admin site ?
Anyway, keep it improvement of wp, coz i really much enjoy wp than other blogs provider.
thanks.
Wooooowwww!!!!! Its Great!!!!! Thanks WordPress Team!
I love it! Thank you WordPress! Always progressing forward! Right on!
Congratulation!
I love it, the new dashboard! It’s “cool man”.
Thanks a lot !
It’s f***ing brilliant! LOVE IT, LOVE IT; LOVE IT!!!!
Very slow and jittery in firefox 3.0.4, scrolling is not smooth at all!
I really like the new design.
However, the global grey strip at the top (with My Account, My Dashboard, Write New, etc.) feels a little redundant now. All of these options are well presented on the Dashboard anyway, so all it does is to add clutter.
I know it serves a purpose once you’re out and about on other WordPress blogs, but it doesn’t feel necessary at all on the dashboard.
i am not very happy and hope to get used to it … :-(((
What a nice surprise:)
I like it. It’s more streamlined, and more intuitive.
I also like the way you guys are never satisfied and are always looking for ways to improve things LOL.
Best wishes for the festive season
Lisa
AWESOME! My friend has wordpress installed on her blog (private domain) and she showed me the new dashboard. I was sooo jealous, it looked great. And today when I logged on, I started to jump with joy, finally!
This is great, guys, reallly really good job!
Seems to be swaped for left-handed person but it’s cleaner anyway.
Beautyfull… Go improvement…
Drag and drop isn’t working for me, and I really want to rearrange the Dashboard. To me it’s all cluttered with things that aren’t useful, like Quick Press and Drafts. I’d like to get the stats up top but they won’t go. I’m not in the least resistant to change, but I have to say that preferred the old format.
You should contact support!
The forum links in the Dashboard have been updated to use the language.
It’s Nice. I like so much!
Whoohoo love it – thank you! And Merry Christmas 😉
MAGNIFICENT!!!!!
i love da colors…..thanx wordpress.
very nice indeed! initially, i felt claustrophobic coz of the left-side dashboard. But, getting used to it, and appreciating the new design didn’t take more than 20 minutes. the speed has improved considerably too…
thank you WP team, for a change towards a greater good! 🙂
You can also minimize the left menu, click on the little arrows there.
I like it lots. :X
I love the new design, clear cut and easy to use! However, is there some problems with the posting, while still typing the post I mean, the draft saving system makes everything goes queasy..
You should contact support, that doesn’t sound normal.
amazing! so much more lighter, and feels kinda fresh. good work guys!! 😀
Gotta love the new dashboard, but, the opening and closing of menus seems to be a lil’ jerky. Could you guys make it smoother? I’m using Firefox 3.0.4.
Overall it’s pleasing to the eye and much more easier to navigate. Thank you!
Sorry guys, I know there’s a lot of work gone into this, and I know I’m in the minority, but it’s looking very like change for its own sake.
For openers, I have rather a problem with the “If you don’t like it, you just haven’t used it enough,” attitude. I don’t like it; using it may bring tolerance – it will never make me like it.
The dashboard is terrible – almost everything is in one long – very long – column. How is that an improvement? OK, I can shut down stuff I don’t need/want using Page Options, but the stuff I DO want, is all in the left-hand column, and it’s absurdly long. All that’s in the right hand column is the stats summary plus a load of empty space. That’s not aesthetics, Matt, just bad design.
It wasn’t broken, and didn’t really need fixing – certainly not to this extent.
I’m not sure where the speed comes in, either. Nothing much was obviously slow previously. The only gripe I had was that, in Opera (with which Google Gears isn’t compatible), saving and publishing posts was often glacially slow (no, it’s neither my connection or my PC causing that – I’ve checked). If THAT’S been improved I’ll be happy.
It sounds like your layout might be off, try dragging and dropping things around to balance it out.
i absolutely LOVE it!
exactly why i used WordPress and not other blogsites!
thanks for the tireless effort, totally worth it 😀
Simple, fast and handy to use ^_^
I love it!
Thank you guys.
I’m so sorry to say this but it sucks. I was looking forward to this upgrade but i feel it’s a step back. te side menus occupy too much space for us who don’t have wide screens. The post edit area is too small, i use 600px width in my posts, so it doesn’t work for me. Dashboard is too cluttered with boxes and it all looks like a big big mess. I always found top menus to be more handy and quicker to access, and the new layout doesn’t cut it for me. Since blogging is a huge part of my activity, if in time i still find it hard to work with, i’ll be left with no other option but to leave you. I’m really disappointed about the whole thing.
I’m so sorry to say this because i respect your work and efforts to be the best, but now it’s at blogspot level.
Try minimizing the menus, and rearranging the post screen. https://wordpress.com/support/screen-configuration/
Update: Alexandre apologizes for comparing us to blogspot in a follow-up comment posted on December 5th, 2008 at 12:47 pm, so keep reading!
I lurve it!
Really organized. Great show. How does one stick something to the front page now?
Try this – https://wordpress.com/support/posts/7/
I was really nervous about this (especially after suffering the “new Facebook” debacle) but I’m already loving this redesign. Cleaner, faster – the very definition of “improved.” Great work!
it is mind blowing, you guys have done a tremendous job. i m in love with the new dash board
As you said, change is always tricky, and frequently after such changes I think to myself: “But the old one was so much better!” However, it didn’t happen this time. You did an excellent job. Congratulations.
I love it! Any idea when threaded comments will be available?
It’ll come a few themes at a time.
If you ask me it stinks!
Finally it’s coming!!! I’m very happy!!! cool
THANK WR! GOOD!
Thanks! I like it too…
i love it ..it is good.. it can understand easily..thanx…..
i love it
awesome! i like the Quickpress!
i agree with what looks like practically everyone else: the 2.7 interface is fantastic! it would’ve been difficult to imagine navigation this easy before…
very easy and fast to charge!!!
thank you 🙂
thanks!
the transition from first to 2.7 gave me no shock
Indeed, it was nice emotion
see 2.7 selected together with pictograms is beautiful
I think that participation in the design produces more integration
so we go forward towards cooperation 3.0!
hello, vittorio
i like it..
nice job…
I love it. Thank you guys.
love it to the max! thanks.
Thanks alot.. 🙂
Simple, clear, clean, fantastic. I love it. Thanks
Very sweet
Thank you. Good theme. I love you WordPRESS 🙂
Absolutely love it! Quick ‘n’ easy. Thanks!
very well done WP.. change is good well almost always and this is one of them.. very positive change and its much more easier.. keep up the good work..
thanks for new design but no other features who i have waiting is here
* new themes X
* newwidgets fonctionality X
* newfeatures in text editor X
I love it. Thank you, Matt, for providing such a great service. Yay! 😀
Good news, much more friendly…thank you…I love it
Thank you for this amazing new feature. You really did a wonderful job!
Congrats.
At a first glance, it looks fine. I expecially love the chance to rearrange the elements, it’s very useful.
(a little note: I liked Matt’s answer, “Give it a little more time. Months in the making, needs more than 10 minutes to appreciate.” You’re right, Matt, we’re often too impatients in appreciating things)
OK, just published a post, and that aspect is much faster, which is very good. However, loading the New Post page now takes far longer than it did (I have a fast PC and a decently fast connection – it’s not me). Is that something that’s affected by the number of current users?
Big plus point – having all my categories available by default, and in a sensibly-sized pane is great, ditto most popular tags. So, posting is slicker, and with that I’m happy. I like the whole composition page, which did need improving; you’ve done a good job with that, and you have my thanks. But I still don’t like the dashboard – the layout is hopeless.
Happily, you can change the Dashboard layout to suit you. Drag and drop modules, click the headers to collapse any you don’t want to keep open by default, and use the Screen Options tab at the top to hide modules you don’t want at all. Voila! Insta-personalized Dashboard.
Dear Matt,
Change is always welcome. I liked the design and its really very well organized.
Many thanks for this change and hope to see much more in the near future.
Wow! Nice dashboard and so easy to use! Thanks for this update! 😉
I like in the smaller menu column on the left instead the longer version one. Cryptic but I get manage to learn it through its icon.
How about The quickpress also can insert picture(s) and have categories also? It will be quickest way to post 🙂
I don’t like “Your Stuff and What’s hot” at the very bottom page, how about to move them into separate page from the Dashboard.
Nice improvement.
You can add images and other media in QuickPress using the small icons, just like in the regular post editor. No categories yet, but in a future update, we hope to make the module configurable so you can choose which few things to include.
Where is the short cut to my finished blog page? There used to be a button that said View Blog. I am so new to this, sorry, just got a handle on the other version. Just call me a little lost. But, I’ll figure it out. So good job on all the hard work. 🙂
Uhm…. Change is good?
it looks great… i love it… WordPress is totally the best:)
new dashboard is awesome man cool
great .
put some more thing into it.
I’m getting used … I like the design. Though I’m clumsy, I’ll try to “prove” … if I make a blunder I ask “¡help”!
Sorry, me again. . .
Previously, when a post was published, the new post pane would be cleared in preparation for the next nugget of golden prose. Now the published post hangs around until the New Post button is clicked. A minor point, but, again, not an improvement.
On a different topic, what would be good, on these pages, is the ability to edit comments before they’re moderated, to correct typos or, in my case right now, to include this in the previous one. Just a thought. . .
More users wanted to be able to continue editing their post after publishing, as they frequently noticed typos or missing tags etc. after publishing and viewing a post. That’s why it stays on the post editor of the just-published post instead of loading a blank screen. Fewer users habitually write one post directly after another.
nice sidebar. makes so much more sense now. thanks.
Very nice.
It’s awesome! Thanks 🙂
Ok maybe my first reaction was a bit too harsh. My monitor size and settings aren’t the most current, so i was destined to have width issues. After some boxing around (= moving boxes) i managed to get a more convenient workspace. And i didn’t notice before that we could minimize the side bar, which is a cool feature. So, here i come to present my apologies. This situation made me wonder if it’s not time to buy a new screen, so this is how far i am willing to go because of you. I’m sorry to have compared you to blogspot, that was an ugly thing to say. Keep up the good work, you’re the best.
And by the way, i always wondered about your comment moderation…
Like the new everything-at-a-glance design but I almost had a heart attack when it looked like my draft posts were not there because under posts in only counted the published posts. I did find them right where they have always been but for a future version would it be possible to divide posts in two – Published and Draft. It would be great to have all the drafts in one place and separate from the published posts – much easier to find when you decide to go firm on some topic you’ve been mulling over for weeks or months.
Keep up the great work guys. Always happy I decided to switch to WordPress.
UM
changes are what changes do to them..like it.
Absolutely loving it 🙂
thanks for the response…getting closer on a comfortable setup
i have my write/edit post module on top in a single column – i would like to get my Tags & Categories modules below that but side-by-side in two columns – neither deserves to take up the entire width – is this or can you make this possible?
also – i see you brought the Post Slug back – how is that different than the Permalink? Or, does the PS become the Permalink if you set it during the first publish?
when adding a video link it seems the tabs make for an extra click – am I missing something on this change – not sure how that improved anything as it was quick & easy previously
Much easier to use – keep up the great work!
so nice
Yay! I like it! 🙂 Good job!
I found an error.
the “view all” link in the “stats” widget in the dashboard is pointing to the dashboard itself and not to the full stats page.
Try again, it was temporary.
REALLY YOU ARE A VERY CREATIVE TEAM 🙂
THIS NEW DASHBOARD IS THE MOST FANTASTIC OF ALL !
THAK YOU VERY MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH 🙂
Totally loved it…
Friendly, symple,…. thanks bro. success to WP.
Thanks, it looks all fine, only problem is that the gray lines and frames (edit) are nearly impossible to see. Would be great to have a more clear gray color.
Try changing the color under your profile.
Thanks a lot for a very nice & smart design. I love it!
Very cool. It looks much organized now.
Based on just some light use this morning, I’m happy with the change. Of course, not having read any of the background information ( but then what do you expect from an IT person?), I had a few times when I was at a loss as to where something was, but this didn’t last long. Overall teh layout (even without adjusting it) seems more logical and it is easier to see everything that you need.
Keep up the good work!
Peter
Some inaccuracies in design and translation!! Some bugs: button “view all” at Statistics panel not working when we are on the blog dashboard.
BUT it really NICE, love it!
Try View All again, should be fixed.
