You’ve probably gotten tired of hearing about it from us, but the day has finally come and the new dashboard is finally here. It’s now immediately available to everyone on WordPress.com.
Change is always tricky, but pretty much everyone who has already switched to the new design and layout (that we affectionately call Crazyhorse) prefers it after a day or two of using it.
Why is that? Well aesthetics are a matter of taste, and you might like or dislike the new look, but speed is not.
A big focus of this redesign was making everything faster. It loads faster. It’s faster for you to navigate. And nearly every possible task in WordPress now takes fewer clicks than it used to.
This means we can get out of your way and you can focus on what matters: your writing, your comments, your readers, your blog.
So take a few minutes to explore around, there are a ton of new features for you. Try rearranging your dashboard, or your write page. Click the arrows in the menu to expand modules and navigate faster. Go to your profile and turn on keyboard shortcuts for comment moderation. Poke and prod! 🙂
For those following along at home, this new dashboard is going to be available as the 2.7 release on WordPress.org sometime next week. But because we update things so frequently here on WordPress.com, version numbers don’t apply as much.
Support is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if you have any problems, and as always completely free. (Give us a little extra time to reply though, we’ll probably get a lot of folks contacting us.)
Love, Matt and the tireless WP team
An amazing job done!!! *2 thumbs up*
Well done Matt and WP.com team. I love it. Been spending so much time at WP.org, come back and everything’s fresher, cleaner prettier. Hey, any chance you’ll make the same changes at WP.org (half kidding, enjoy the breather and celebration!).
xxoxx
It’s amazing. I love it! Thank you very much 🙂
I often looked up the IP location for spam on the old version and don’t see how to do it on the new one.
It’s in the left column by the avatar.
The New Design is Pretty Cool !!….better than the other one. Greets. 😉
My question is: WHY????
The dashboard was fine as it was, intuitive, straight forward to use. Now I lose time meerly trying to understand where the “manage” button is…
Sorry, no cigars this time, I’m afraid.
Nice!!!!! esta muy lindo!
I have only had it for about 35 seconds and I have already developed a sociopathic addiction to it. I am devoted to it as one might be devoted to his or her guru.
Wonderful timing, I just joined wordpress and made my own blog today. The dashboard is awesome, very clean and easy to navigate. Grats to the WP team, you guys did a great job from what I can tell c:
Much more gooder. Thanks.
Absolutely brilliant! Thank you!
Awesome.
Well done – this is just great – easy to use – didn’t even need to read the instructions – just works! And… it could be my imagination…. but it seems faster>
A pleasure to use.
Where can I find the more detailed stats? When I click “view all” under the Stats section, it only reloads the Dashboard.
Thanks! Great re-design (but for that one issue I’m having!)!
That was a temporary bug, try again.
Some features are okay, others don’t work well @ all. So far my biggest issue with it is having the upper right corner of my post cut off by the publisher after closing everything else. (For some reason, I don’t have the option to close “Publish”.) I’ll enjoy wandering around figuring out what goes where, but I’m not grooving on the crowded appearance.
You should just move it into the main column: https://wordpress.com/support/screen-configuration/
At first I was like “Ooooo” and then I was like “Whoa”
Great job ! Yay WordPress!
People who don’t like the new dashboard just have to get used to it. It works great, it’s much more customizable, and it’s so much faster.
So much better user interface – I like this 😉 What’s next?

I like it a lot, great work 🙂
Very good user interface and functionality – will have much more … what can be expected?
Love it… I think its much more organized and teh navigation makes more sense.
i like! very organized and clean!
Great Job!
Thanks!
Yuck. Can I get back to old one if I want it?
No, the old dashboard is no longer available. I suggest giving it a few days to get used to. You might just find you like it.
the one thing I really don’t like is that the size of the post writing window is messed up when my browser is in minimize mode. I like to draft my posts in word, then re-type them using a small screen on top of my Word screen. This does not work with the new system.
You should check out how to customize your layout: https://wordpress.com/support/screen-configuration/
ouw!!!
so diferent, i like it.
cool !!
i can see all my drafts and delete the unwanted categories
Nice job, thanks.
Cheers!
So far, I’m lovin’ it.
As I said elsewhere it’s not good for me – squashes too much into too little space and at the very least I’d have liked to be able to have the 2 sidebars sizeable or hideable!! Don’t get me wrong – I love changes but while the last one was superb, this defo isn’t working for me comfortably and I’m visually disabled, which doesn’t help either – I HATE clutter!
The left menu column is collapsible, as was described in the advance notice post and the preview video. If you’re visually disabled, the control for column minimization may be too subtle for you to see, though. (It’s designed to be subtle, as an ‘advanced’ feature.) In the menu column, notice how the menu sections are broken into 3 groups, and how there’s a thin line between the groups with a small arrow on one end? Click on the arrow and the menu column will minimize. Click again for it to open. For more information on the new features, please check https://wordpress.com/blog/2008/12/03/27-gets-here-in-two-days/ or https://wordpress.com/support/screen-configuration/
First time I used it, it’s really makes me confused.
But as time goes on, I finally love it!
Thanks! 😀
It’s lovely. ❤ I like the setup and looks much better now compared to the previous one, which I never really got used to anyway, so getting used to this new one isn’t going to be much of a problem for me. Nice work. 😀
where is the miscellaneous sub panel gone?? I cant find it under settings???
Which specific option are you looking for? It may have just been renamed.
Go to Settings > Media for all media default settings. I mean, they weren’t really miscellaneous, you know?
¡Excellent! I love it.
Very nice.
Cya!.-
WORDPRESS….if I have something to say is just….THANK YOU!!!….you guys put some effort to get this to work…
I love it, I find it so easy now to navigate and adjust my page…thanks!!!!
Thanks, guys!
Its so cool ! Evrythings so fast now ! Love it !
I’d love som colour options; it’s a bit too white-in-white I think…
Check out your profile page, there’s a blue option so far, maybe more in the future.
It’s.. awesome. Wonderful job!
I love it!
It is so much better organized and much easier for those who are not yet used to wordpress. We don’t neet a thousand clicks to get there, everything is there already.
Besides that, it’s clean and easy to adapt to our own preferences.
Congrats!!
no way, i want my previous Dashboard back!!
this one will take lots of time to explore and understand it.
I love WordPress, great lay-outs, easy to use, a lot of space and all for free!
Thanks WordPress!
I like the layout, but I’m having trouble toggling back and forth quickly between the admin and the site. Is there a view site, or view post button I’m missing? I do see the preview post button but I’m looking for a quick way to get to the live site.
Yes just click your blog title.
A really good improvement. Better design and usability. If we could easily post links at QuickPress (with anchor text, not just pasting the url) it would be a bonus. Keep up the good usual work!
I absolutely love it! Good work and thank you!
Matt, congratulations on the new version. I love it. Very clean and organised and lots of customizible features. I think the change is very positive. For me, the best thing is in the Upload Content window. I appreciate very much getting back the uploading of a bunch of photos at once instead of doing it one by one, then click the ‘Send’ botton, etc. Crazy! Thank you very much for doing this hard work for us. Regards from Spain. Marcos.
It’s nice … it’s easy … it’s beautiful, only one remark: I miss my dates. When I’m planning a post, the only thing I see is “2 days from now” or “16 days from now”. For me, it was much easier when the correct date was added to the scheduled post.
Or maybe, I’m not looking right. That can also be the case.
I can’t believe you guys keep on improving on this the way you do. Totally love it. Thanks folks!
I’ll give it a 6.5, but I’m having to hunt for things that were right where I knew where to look before. Maybe I just need to get used to the new UI. But today my brother and I had to hunt down something that was easy to find in the old FAQ that took a good 10-15 minutes between the two of us just hunting down one little bit of info. Peng was saying it took him less than five minutes to find before the upgrade. And he’s my tech guru so if he’s having trouble finding something it definitely got hidden.
You guys did a wonderful job on this upgrade, and the implementation onto .COM was smooth and quick. The user interface is near perfect and I love being able to change the arrangement of things via drag and drop and also to decide what shows on my main dashboard page and on the write pages.
I also applaud you for including the community in the design of the interface and letting us know when the upgrade would take place.
Tip of the hat to you Matt, and to all who worked on this upgrade.
I am okay with it ,basically, but I hate that I can’t find a way to look at the site– the old “Visit site” was so convenient. So far the preview button doesn’t work for me and I can’t find “my comments” on one of my blogs.
Some of this is growing pains but my lack of enthusiasm ultimately stems from my frustration with change for the sake of change. The old layout was, basically, fine.
Indeed brilliant. It is nothing short of WordPress. 🙂
Congrats man! Awesome UI improvements. We are moving our company blog to it today!
Yay!
It’s really great. Congratulations!!!
Nice , that’s perfect .
Didn’t like it yesterday…LOVE it today! The Draft/Editor – not sure what it is called – window/area was too small, and difficult for me to work in; however, did some ‘poking and prodding’ this morning, and dragged and dropped the Publish, Tags, and Categories sections to just below the Draft/Editor window, which then led to a nice wide Draft/Editor window to work in.
Great job, WP!
Your hard work & creativity is greatly appreciated. Thanks for being forward thinking & being willing to push through the hard comments/ criticism. Keep persevering!
I am in love with the new QuickPress feature.
How do I get from the dashboard to my blog without having to enter a junk post?
Click on your blog title.
You Guys Rock!!!
Oh Man… I logged in this afternoon… I just LOVE the new look!
The layout works — ok, so it took a little getting used to Where this moved to… But what the heck, Change takes time, and I really appreciate the effort put into this. Heck, I see where all those earlier polls about UI went. Great job, keep up the fine surprises!
I just love it… it’s pretty, and it shows u everything… I know you maybe tired of hearing this… but it’s AWESOME! Nice work 😉
Well, I probably like it, but it is not possible to get from the dashboard back to the blog home page in one click, that is absolutely NOT very handy. Otherwise, great work :-).
Just click on the blog title in the upper left by the W logo.
Nearly fell off my chair- where had ‘my’ WP gone? – but now I love it and being able to see so much at a glance. Thanks guys – you have worked really hard at this – and I think its great!
Thank’s Matt
Much better Design for Dashboard
Thought I’d posted this and if apologies if I’m repeating myself (again!), but I wanted to say that I don’t like the changes, because the new format squashes too much into too small a space, leaving precious little room to write your posts (which after all is the primary purpose of the software!). Being visually disabled I also find it hugely off putting to have SO much clutter on any screen at any time, so would have liked to have the option of being able to hide the 2 sidebars – perhaps keep it in mind for next time??
Check out this support doc: https://wordpress.com/support/screen-configuration/ .
Your new Dashboard is the best single piece of screen design/UI that I have ever seen. Brilliant! Congratulations! Proud to have my blog on WordPress.com.
The detail I loved most of the old design was the notification of new comments. I could log in and immediately see there were new comments, even in the small screen of my iPhone. With the new design, it’s not that immediate.
Wunderbar!!!
I love this! Thanks for all of the hard work that clearly went into this new release. Amazing!
Great GUI, perfect information architecture but I didn’t have noted any improvement in speed. Maybe because I’m in Brazil.
Great job! Thanks! 😉
Great move! I was sold the first time I saw it. 🙂
[it looks intense] x
I like it!.. I would also love if adsense can be accomodated in wordpress. any plan about it?..
Ha Tikvah @ December 5th, 2008 at 10:25 pm…
You can drag the items on the right to below the draft/editor writing area, which then widens that area for writing in.
I see that the “crop image” function still does not work. That is a real nuisance. I have, however, gotten pretty good at predicting where on an image the “default” crop lines will appear and I choose my photos with that in mind. That has worked pretty well, so far, but it does limit my options!
You should contact support, that sounds like a bug of some sort.
Could you please bring back the “forum”-link on the dashboard-top-right-corner! It’s ok to make changes for the better, but…that link wasn’t “broken”…so it didn’t need any “fixing”… 🙂 please please please, don’t take away links which make it easy to access certain areas without following lots of links …it’s sometimes annoying if loading is a problem..thanks!
You can still get to forums easily, just click Help.
:(. I can’t fin the stick on front page anymore! PLEASE TELL ME WHERE THAT IS!
It’s under Visibility in the publish area next to the text editor.
Ugh! I thought I’d like it but I don’t! 😦 I hate the add a new post page, because the publish box is in the way and it covers up like half of my text box, and plus, I added a photo, and it wouldn’t even let me set it to a different size, and it made it really small! Is there any way to fix the new post page?
Yes check this one out – https://wordpress.com/support/screen-configuration/ .
Very handy to have the delete button right where my mad mouse strays accidentally most of the time while I’m writing a post. I need dangerous stuff like that further away!
And those old drafts I had sitting around; how come they are suddenly dated 1st January 1970???
All drafts have dates now, so they may have gotten one automatically assigned.
Props to the WP team; Very impressive upgrade! Thanks for your hard work.
SERIOUSLY, IT IS AWESOME !!!
KUDOS TO THE WHOLE TEAM… 🙂

I love the new wordpress.
I add my thanks to you. I LOVE the new Dashboard design. WordPress is wonderful!
Drag and drop feature is great, and offers a lot of flexibility.
I like it!! good job, wordpress !!!
Fantastic… I love it! So elegant and simple.
fantastic this new fresh dashboard!!!!
congratulations wordpress team! 🙂
I really like it. It’s so clean.
Wow! This new dashboard is great. Great way to organize information.
Oh Yeah!!! Way better!! Much easier to bang around my ‘behind the scenes’ area. The dashboards totally relevant now! Very nice.
Get me a little Paypal support and we’ll be in biz 😉
New front page dashboard is excellent – all major WP functions right in front of you before you begin.
I absolutely LOVE it! Keep up the good work guys! Thank You so much, WordPress! 🙂
Where is the plugin menu?
There are no plugins on WordPress.com.
I firmly believe that techs on payroll try to justify their job by creating new designs. The proper thing to do would be to listen ro requests from users and try fo satisfy them. If you just look at comments on this page, you obtain a biased view of users’reaction, because it it the gadget-inclined who are likely to comment. For those of us who loook at it as a tool, the chnage is an inconvenience. I dare you to give users a fair choice of staying with the new design or going back to the old one.
As we have posted about several times leading up to this new design, all of the changes are based on user testing and feedback, including several surveys that enabled wordpress.com users to vote on things like the navigation style, specific features and menu icons. It is possibly the most user-driven version of software on the market, as far as I know. Sorry you feel inconvenienced, but hopefully you’ll get used to the new style soon and appreciate its increased speed and versatility.
