You’ve probably gotten tired of hearing about it from us, but the day has finally come and the new dashboard is finally here. It’s now immediately available to everyone on WordPress.com.
Change is always tricky, but pretty much everyone who has already switched to the new design and layout (that we affectionately call Crazyhorse) prefers it after a day or two of using it.
Why is that? Well aesthetics are a matter of taste, and you might like or dislike the new look, but speed is not.
A big focus of this redesign was making everything faster. It loads faster. It’s faster for you to navigate. And nearly every possible task in WordPress now takes fewer clicks than it used to.
This means we can get out of your way and you can focus on what matters: your writing, your comments, your readers, your blog.
So take a few minutes to explore around, there are a ton of new features for you. Try rearranging your dashboard, or your write page. Click the arrows in the menu to expand modules and navigate faster. Go to your profile and turn on keyboard shortcuts for comment moderation. Poke and prod! 🙂
For those following along at home, this new dashboard is going to be available as the 2.7 release on WordPress.org sometime next week. But because we update things so frequently here on WordPress.com, version numbers don’t apply as much.
Support is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if you have any problems, and as always completely free. (Give us a little extra time to reply though, we’ll probably get a lot of folks contacting us.)
Love, Matt and the tireless WP team
The old interface was so refreshing. Now you managed to make your interface really boring. Good job.
Mmmmm. I’m not a computer freak, just new here and i neaded a lot of time to discover everything! Now I know a little and … Change!!!
I love the design, but… Oh nooo … No change at “Widgets” – which do not always work and are difficult to edit – and still a to small text box with more fonts to chose for your posts!!! You are forgetting to adjust that what i needed the most! Back to work =o) !!!
It’s great but the first day I was having one heck of a time actually finding what to click to go to my site from the dashboard. Then I clicked on my sites name at the top and it worked. Then the next day I noticed I may have not been the only one with this problem because now next to my sites name “visit site” has been added.
i love it…
I preferred the old to the new
I don’t like it
there should be an option to turn it back, I can’t even surf tags anymore …
Sure you can (surf tags). Tag surfer is listed in the Dashboard menu on the left.
The new admin panel looks so GUI GUI friendly. Thanks dubbaP!
Great Design. A really great job. Why do we need your stuff on the dashboard home page. I used the screen options to move on.
Great job. I love the new dashboard. The old layout was much less intuitive to navigate, and many of the features were hidden. Now I have much easier access to the things I care about, and see things I didn’t used to have as easy a time keeping an eye on. Thanks for the early Christmas present!
I love this new dashboard..so cool..= )
Great Design. A really great job. Especially like the Screen Options. And the stat summary. And if you see the snow, it is really lovely.
Love it !
I just deployed Mooo last week; working on themes and plugins and stuff … but what I see here gets me wanting to upgrade!

cannot…. handle…… change………..
Well, I think I can get used to it.
Loved the new dash board. But my avatar (next to author) is not showing 😕 Though I cleared the cache!
It’s really messy on my Asus eee PC900. On the eee’s 9″ screen, I have the text on Firefox enlarged for readability, and with the new Dashboard design, elements overlap. So it doesn’t scale well.
it’s make me happy have a blog like another. so come on people make a blog..!
Lovely new design, easier to go everywhere too. Excellent job, thanks guys!
Thanks! I love 😀
New Suggestions: new themes and insert calendar in pages 😉
Love it. Makes a newbie like me, blog easier and faster. Keep up the great work!
The only thing I have been whingeing about is the use of Georgia in the sidebar menus and the menu icons that won the vote.
I was sitting here this morning staring at the interface, and all of a sudden the room shifted, my vision cleared, and I realized I am completely at peace with it all. I can’t remember why I was having a problem in the first place.
I had just run an SVN update though (now 10073). Was something subtle changed in the layout that only my right-brain can see? Or is it simply Saturday?
I want that snow script, btw.
Hmmm. I need to find things again. Much cleaner layout now though. Thanks WP.
Am I hallucinating? Some sort of snowflakes are floating on the screen. If this is true, please mention it somewhere. Those not aware of such scripting capabilities might think that their monitors are acting up.
About the Dashboard, I love the Screen Options. I would like it to pop up like “add media” showing empty boxes with names and a green tick and a red cross. Clicking on the tick activates them, clicking on the cross deactivates them. I would also like to be able to drag these around so that the arrangement is just the way I want it.
So for instance, one box could be Comments awaiting moderation, which I would like to place somewhere at the top and where I can approve the comments without going elsewhere. It can be of an adjustable height with a scrollbar so it can handle, say 10 comments at one go.
Another feature addition could be stat export to PDF either save now or send to email account on daily basis.
It’s snowing! Check out the next entry.
I want to love it, but well not yet.
I don`t want to be mean, but i do NOT like it.i can`t figure it out!!I`m so used to the old one.
I like it so far other than my aviator picture keeps disappearing. I have reloaded it every day the past 3 days and I am not sure what happens to it..
Try it one more time.
Looks great and works great so far, only a matter of getting used to it. Shouldn’t be too difficult.
WordPress ROCKS!!
I’ve self hosted wordpress blog , too. I’ll be updating it soon.
well, honestly i’m still getting the hang of it…
but i’m sure i’ll get used to it. looks pretty cool to me 😉
outstanding. well done. excellent. *buys everyone a round* superb. bravo.
Great work. I love it.
Love it!
I just realized that I can’t click on the pictures on my blog and make them look bigger like before. Is there something new I need to be doing?
Haven’t had the time to give it a real test, but looks Ok so far!
I still think a little button to reverse this would be really apreciated
I can’t surf tags, makings posts is harder, And has someone in an early comment said I don’t like having to learn everything again (If no one said that I said than) and sincerly, my true opinion is: I H-a-t-e I-t.
I think it’s kind of useless
the only thing better Is really the stetics …
And no one will take me this idea, make a reverse button!
Sorry if my opinion is a minority.
The crew here at OXCGN (formerly XboxOZ360gamer.com) love it. It has taken several days to get to know it, but has been well worth taking the time, rather than dissing it off the bat.
So I’d suggest to those who only use it occassionally, to give it some time. It;’s like all new things. They feel awkward to begin with simply because they are new or ‘different’ . .
One fault I have found with it though is that I get told I don’t have permissions to view drafts when wanting to check (preview) a post I’m working on. It shuts me out and says I do not have permissions . . Yet I’m the owner and administrator dah . .heheh
So some help in that area would be welcomed.
Plus, thanks for adding the little word View Site next to the sites heading in the dash . .I was stumbling around looking for a View Site button for a little while. And for the new drop down for access to drafts etc on the upper right hand side. Most appreciated. As it was a little confusing finding access to that.
Although, I do think having a link in the lefthand drop downs straight to drafts, pendings and pasts would be much better as it saves moving the mouse across the screen a few times in navigation.
I know all this is simply fine-tuning, so ‘please’ keep up the great work.
@ mrsfawhittaker
If you mean in the editor . .I can still resize images in the editor . . Here’s a trick that sometimes helps when I have issues like that. I’ve had a few issues with captions not working, but I seem to be able to get them working eventually.
Close and shut down your browser completely, relaunch it, clear the cache and then open your wordpress site, then go back into the editor and try again.
This has sometimes helped me when similar things occur, and try using FireFox 3 as it’s brilliant with WP.com
its amazzzzzing!!!!
i love it!
much much better than the old one. very useful.
especialy liked the ‘quick publish’ box.
my love has been renewed! lol
🙂
Just getting used to it so no vote either way, but thought you would like to know it doesn’t layout correctly when using AOL. Of course I realize a lot of stuff doesn’t work right using AOL, but a lot of people (me) still use it.
Thanks for all your hard work.
Nice! All-inclusive.
Terrific undertaking … a work of genious! About time! So glad you read my mind and decided to implement my idea 😉
I found it…I had to “choose” my current gravatar over my old one.
i love it! cool..
GREAT WORK People !! THANK YOU!
love this!
Love it, awesome!
I wanna Say, “I am Love in it”
Love WP
Regards,
It’s great! I like it infinitely better than the old dashboard. 🙂 Thanks!
Not a fan. Drafts should be listed under “At a Glance.” Relearning everything is annoying, but inevitable I suppose. Moving the buttons to a sidebar needs I need to scroll constantly – it was nice to have them lined up horizontally to click through quickly. Probably a consequence of my smaller laptop screen.
it was a surprise! 🙂
Change is good…
Nice work TeamWP.
I have noticed that the font used on your blog makes the often used word ‘clicks’ appear like a similiar, slightly shorter, word. Or is it just me?
Just you. 😉
It’s Good!
nice…. it’s make more faster to load the page….
So I left a comment the other day about my avatar when I comment not being correct… and for some reason it was correct when I left the comment here but I just left a comment somewhere else and on my own blog and its not correct….
Like I said I love the new design… but thats my only issue
I love the design! Great job.
Is it possible to love WordPress even more???
Thanks guys!
Really loving the new design. Everything is so much easier to find – love how it’s all right there on one page.
It has the glittery sparkly seal of approval from Nessa over in Pink-Ville!!
Very slick and stylish – no problems using it.
It’s like unwrapping a Christmas present early!
Very grateful to all you WordPress wizzies.
its good and simple to use
I’m not fond of that…really would prefer the old one. This is cluttered and at the same time not as useful.
I totally agree with Pierre….”if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” 😀
It’s nice to see upgrades and so on, but I wish we had a choice. Thankfully with my other blog which is a wordpress.org, I do get to choose, and I’m certainly not going to upgrade to this one.
thaaaaaaaaaaaanx
İ think thats cool , thanks for it.
I think that’s cool, thanks for it. 😉
Makes it so much easier to organize, see my stats, etc. Thanks WordPress.
fantastic!
Learning curve, schmearning curve: it took me ten minutes to figure out where everything had moved to, but I now save five minutes every single time I want to change the content of a text widget. Whether you intended to or not, you finally repaired what I considered the most irritating (infrastructure) aspect of the site. Thanks!
wow, just get in and surprise! I It look great, but I will have to play around more to get use to it.
Super! Much easier to use then the old one.
THANKS!!!
I like it.
Though there is one minor about it… Somehow I got a old avatar and my new one does’nt want to show in comments and such.
I got a saturn now while I want my purple universe one.
I changed it 2 days ago… how long more will it take for it to show :S
Anyhow the new dashbord is faster and you can see everything way better and faster if you look for something.
Though I had to explore it a bit to master it, but it’s okay now and I have posted allot of topics when the dashbord was updated 😛
This an updated that I greatly appreciate. Thank you!
Not bad.
I love it
thkx a lot
I think it is not possible to have a bigger letter size in the edition window. Is it correct? It is annoying
Muy Fabuloso!
I love this, it’s so much easier to use. Thank you 🙂
Definitely love the new dashboard. Makes me feel like a pro blogger using it — as there’s so many tools there to use. It’s very obvious that your team put an immense amount of work into the UI design to make it usable and a real tool for production, and not just a mess of menus. I can very much appreciate such premeditated attention to detail with respect to the work of blogging. Thanks for this!
I miss being able to see when a draft was being created by a fellow administrator. Can’t seem to do that now. I’m only privy to those I write.
Beautiful design, works like a dream. It makes me feel prettier just looking at it!
Brilliant. Thanx 🙂
The QuickPress feature is great, but could use the ability to add a “link” to a post, as well as images, video, audio, etc. since most of the time, links are integral to any given post, but rich media elements aren’t. With that small change, the Dashboard would be the only interface to WP I’d need 99% of the time. Which is why I voted Love It in spite of this small limitation.
The QuickPress module allows you to add links if you enter the HTML, and you can add images etc. using the icons, just like in the regular editor.
I love it, not just the COOL look but the facilitating features as well, Kudos WordPress!!
Belloooooo 😉 😀
amazing!!! I love it!!! Thanks WordPress!!!
I think it will be fair enough if you give us – your user – choice of using a new look or an old look, coz I worked fine with the old look and had a hard time in understanding the new look (Yep, I prefer Coca Cola classics than Coke, and I can buy both type of Coca Cola still)…
Thanks Matt! I love it so much, go wordpress go!
It’s cool and all, but I think that users should be able to choose one over the other. It’s much easier that way.
AWESOME!!
will take some getting used to, but love the new icons and sleeker layout which we can customise to our preference. I know a gazillion wordpress users would have showered you guys with high praise and thanks already, but I am really thankful for wordpress and grateful to WordPress. 🙂 hurrray to you all!
i heart it!
The new design is a piece of crap, IMHO. Major web companies (MSN, Hotmail, Yahoo, even WordPress) can’t stand doing something right and then leaving it alone. Eventually they destroy the simple, yet high quality, that they originally had.
It appears that is the journey we are on now with this space.
Just put it back the way it was two weeks ago, and then leave it alone FOREVER.
