You’ve probably gotten tired of hearing about it from us, but the day has finally come and the new dashboard is finally here. It’s now immediately available to everyone on WordPress.com.
Change is always tricky, but pretty much everyone who has already switched to the new design and layout (that we affectionately call Crazyhorse) prefers it after a day or two of using it.
Why is that? Well aesthetics are a matter of taste, and you might like or dislike the new look, but speed is not.
A big focus of this redesign was making everything faster. It loads faster. It’s faster for you to navigate. And nearly every possible task in WordPress now takes fewer clicks than it used to.
This means we can get out of your way and you can focus on what matters: your writing, your comments, your readers, your blog.
So take a few minutes to explore around, there are a ton of new features for you. Try rearranging your dashboard, or your write page. Click the arrows in the menu to expand modules and navigate faster. Go to your profile and turn on keyboard shortcuts for comment moderation. Poke and prod! 🙂
For those following along at home, this new dashboard is going to be available as the 2.7 release on WordPress.org sometime next week. But because we update things so frequently here on WordPress.com, version numbers don’t apply as much.
Support is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if you have any problems, and as always completely free. (Give us a little extra time to reply though, we’ll probably get a lot of folks contacting us.)
Love, Matt and the tireless WP team
it’s nice. i like it. thank you.
I love it..! make me easy… Thanks bro…
I don’t know about anyone else, but I love it. Easy to use, accesible, perfect, beautiful, etc… Everything you could want. LOL! But seriously, thanks, its sooo nice now!
Ok. I voted that I hated it, but I’m slowly coming around to it. Now that I figured how to reconfigure the screen, it’s better. That was SUPER annoying. Thanks WP!
I don’t know about anyone else, but I love it. Easy to use, accessible, perfect, beautiful, etc… Everything you could want. LOL! But seriously, thanks, its sooo nice now!
so pretty
I like it… It has a ‘clean’ look, and seems to run better (but maybe that is just my perception). I am always a fan of change!
I liked the new design. But I especially like the snow in California.
Hey I like it – it seems more efficient although I was still learning the old one
I am just paging through the comments to find snags to be aware of – nothing major it seems.
this is such a cool offering – well done hey
Please report any snags you find to support so that we can make sure to fix anything that’s not working correctly.
of course I love it… thx and also the falling snow…
love it! thanks!
I simply love the admin panel. There are so many new features and cool look.
I very2 love it. We can organize easier and simple …
first of all, is it falling white dots or “snow-thing-like” little image here? How you do it or a new template? And of course i love the new design, its cool. You can minimize it too, that’s pretty neat.
I love it! It’s soo good
I loathe it. It’s cluttered, ugly, very difficult to use, can’t work out how to post a photo. In fact i can’t understand (given how EXCELLENT the interface was before) how it’s possible that you came up with a design like this.
It used to be so easy, fun and relaxing to post. Now … it’s just awful. It’s so awful, I can’t explain.
It’s probably going to actually stop me from posting. I don’t even want to go back and look at the bloody thing.
Please change it back….
Sorry, we won’t be rolling back to the previous design. I’m not sure why you can’t figure out how to post a photo, though. Although we have added the option of uploading images without creating a post (Media > Add New), the regular old uploader is still part of the posting screen, so it hasn’t really changed there.
The new dashboard is awesome!
I just got active with WordPress so I don’t recall what things looked like before, but I really like what I see now! I can figure it out in a snap everything I need is available a click or two away. Nicely done!
I log in and everything is so organized and pretty! Now it’s even more user friendly. Thanks so much and great job guys!
I love to be keep on changing!!!
I really like the new design!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really like it, but I’d LOVE it if we could add some modules from other pages to the dashboard. In my case, I modify one of my widgets a lot. Therefore, it would be great if I could move the current widgets segment onto my dashboard for easy editing. I’m sure other people have other things they use often, and being able to add them to the dashboard would be really useful.
Maybe with the next update…?
Adding widget management to the Dashboard is a bigger project than it probably seems, and we need to fix widget management in its own section first, but we’ll definitely consider it as we plan future improvements.
Ich find es nicht schlecht. Sieht ganz gut aus. Aber man muss sich ein wenig daran gewoehnen. Wenn es dann auch noch schneller geht, umso besser – Gruesse aus Deutschland und Frohe Weihnachten. It looks pretty nice. It needs a little time to get used with it. But it makes sense, if it is faster than before. Greetings from Germany und merry christmas …
now i can directly write posts from dashboard ! thanks a lot.
can there be a preview post in quickpress, please.
Speed I can understand working on. But the organization leave a great deal to be desired. Elements that are important are now sidelined in small print, rather than being obviously available. Elements that have little or no importance, or are duplicated on other pages (like comments) are now taking up so much space as to be ridiculous. I would sooner spend a second or two waiting for a page to load than spend 5 to 10 seconds trying to find what I’m looking for. Please – if you’re going to do something that so affects the end users – PLEASE ask them what they want and need before you do it.
We have been asking end users what they want and need for the past six months, which is how we wound up with the new design. Multiple surveys were posted here for wordpress.com users to participate in, and we conducted user feedback sessions as well, which included wordpress.com users. Since we have so many users and you can’t please everyone all of the time, we tried to make things customizable so that anyone could fine tune the interface to his/her own liking. Hopefully when you’ve had a chance to get used to it and you’ve taken the time to customize things so they suit you better you’ll be happier with the change.
Am getting used to it…not so difficult for me to adjust to the change because i have just started with the blog last month.
Great Work!!! Looks excellent and very functional, from what I can tell. Thank you for all the hard work, dedication and time that you put into developing the new design. Thank you for enhancing our experience here a WordPress.com. You all ROCK! God bless you all.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your families there at WordPress.
Craig
I don’t like the new Dashboard, because there was nothing wrong with the old one. Like all Internet-related systems and practices, those who think playing around with web designs, systems, and programs is “fun” assume that everyone else likes it, too. I don’t. Unless there is serious improvement, most changes are unnecessary, cause confusion for the average user, and create frustration and tension. Having to relearn how everything works cost me time I did not have this morning.
The new design did not look better to me. With the new emphasis on vertical toolbars instead of horizontal ones, it goes against print conventions of reading right to left. That is not easier; it’s just different. I found it only nominally faster than the old design. As a matter of fact, saving my blog took more seconds, not less.
Like most Internet-related/computer-related “improvements,” this is like the old story of the emperor’s new clothes. The emperor walked around naked, telling everyone how wonderful his new clothes were. His subjects were afraid to disagree for fear of repercussions, or looking foolish. The new dashboard isn’t an improvement; it didn’t help users; it’s only “new clothes.”
Sorry that learning the new interface cost you extra time this morning; it was for just this reason that we’ve been giving everyone on wordpress.com plenty of advance notice about the changes that were coming over the last couple of months.. so no one would be surprised by them.
So… i m not very keen to the new dashbord design but i will get used to (i hope)
Whats’more since the desing has been changed i can not add links anymore…
You should be able to add links. Can you contact support to help you resolve this?
Thanks
I prefer the new mode of remaining on post edit page after mashing publish.
I wish my posts showed in their respective ‘tags’ and ‘category’ listings on wordpress 😐
I am not regretting one bit from my move to WP 🙂 Loving the new look, it’s easy to navigate and everything is so well organized! I found it very easy to use, thanks guys!
I’m lose. I don’t know how to use it… I miss some options… snif 😦
Like the new layout, great job. So far it works great for me seeing that I am as inexperianced as you can get so kudos to you.
goood
i love it!
😀
Absolutely superb rethink and remake of the WordPress dashboard… a fresh start is always a good thing… this works for me and feels like a Christmas present!
Many thanks
Bip
THANK YOU! 😉
Fancy schmancy – I love it!
Very very beautiful design
Thanks WordPress
😀
Nice and clean and well organised. But is it just me, or is it as slow as a tortoise on sleeping pills?
Speed & efficiency are always appreciated! The thing that took me the longest to figure out was how to visit my site, after posting. The “Visit site” is extremely subdued now, whereas before you really couldn’t miss it. A little strange, but easy enough to live with.
Gosh, I appreciate all the hard work you guys must have gone through. Lord knows designing by committee is very difficult — and this must have been one biga** committee, cus, I really do apologize for saying this — its a mess! Turns out trying to put everything on one dashboard page makes for a big craptastic wreck. I wanted to use it for several days before judging and having done so, I still feel the same way I did when I first saw it… Absolutely nothing intuitive about it. And isnt that really the goal? Ease and clarity of use? Now we have to scroll up and down and cross the page for buttons and links that logically should be “right there” and they used to be.
You know youve got design problems when you have to have arrows pointing to links! (as you do with the “visit site” at the top of the dashboard. If I want to see all lmy stats, instead of simply clicking on “stats” I have to scroll to the bottom and click a new button that says “see all” or something like that., and many more such design disasters.
I apologize, really I do, i know how hard designing by committee is, but this is a heck of a lot worse, WordPress, not better.
But i do love the snow feature!
Don’t apologize for stating your opinion, we’re allowed to have different views! Some tips to make your transition easier: 1) You don’t have to scroll down to click the View All button to get to the rest of your stats. Just click on Blog Stats in the left hand menu (under Dashboard). 2) If you think the Dashboard is a “big craptastic wreck,” go ahead and adjust it so it suits you better. That’s exactly why we have the Screen Options tab (so you can hide modules you don’t find useful), the ability to collapse and expand modules by clicking on their headers (so if you don’t want to hide it but don’t need it open all the time it takes up less room), and the ability to minimize the menu column. With so much control at your fingertips, it should be easy for you to make it suit your needs.
It is really, really good. The design puts every single function I want to use on one page. Other websites should use this as an example of how to improve user function in the real world instead of making changes that sound good in theory but don’t work in practice, (not naming any names, FLICKR).
Ooookayyyy, I played around with it a bit more & (finally) got what the tutorial was trying to say. Now that I have that far left column minimized as much as possible, I like it much more! Thanks!
I like it but why doesn’t the picture for my website and gravatar work? My gravatar doesn’t show up and my website pic I updated but it doesn’t show up.
Took me a little bit to get used to, but after playing around with the modules a little bit, I’m a fan. Major props to the WordPress team! Thanks!
P.S. Just turned on the snow feature. Love it!
About the layout, the new dashboard nicely organized and arranged. However, I find the “feel” too cold and monochromatic for my tastes… my eyes shiver.
If you go to your Profile (click on your name in the upper right of screen), you can try the blue palette instead.
I love the new design. Thanks for making it happen.
Nod to WordPress.com for a fantastic tool at the right price.
Great work, as usual.
It’s ok. I just need some more time to get used to it. 😉
I don’t mean to be rude or anything, but I’m one of those who DISLIKE it. I don’t hate it, but I don’t like it. Haha.
Though, I suppose it’s faster, which helps A LOT. But to be quite honest, I miss the old dashboard.
So yeah, there’s my opinion.
faster navigation is what we need and what we love, especially blogging from Indonesia. Thanks WordPress 🙂
It’s awesome. I loved it!
it looks and is useful much better now
New design is quite simply superb!
Looks pretty, but a bigger sandbox for writing posts would be nice.
Are you referring to the text editor? You can actually stretch that to be as long or short as you like. Check out this Support page for details.
I love the new design for the dashboard. The only thing I ask is if its possible to get the poll results to show there?
I’ve added this to our suggestion list, which is reviewed on a regular basis. Thanks!
This is cool!
Love it~!
x3
It rocks! It makes me easier to work!
I adore this new dashboard design. It’s absolutely amazing! WordPress never ceases to amaze me with their care for their blog patrons. It is easy to use, understand, and adjust to; I’ve never had a problem with any update before, and I still don’t now.
Keep up the good work.
And thanks for everything!
Needed options in quick post, like tags or at least I haven’t seen them before.
thanks for the help.
That change was really needed, It looks pretty cool, web 2.0 style.
I like everything about the new interface except..
the blog stats graph no longer scrolls to the right every day. During the day I use to be able to watch the tiny circle go up as the hits accumulated, now I don’t.
I force refreshed and cleared my cache
nada
It loads faster? Not on my system! It takes ages to do anything.
Like it! Not sure if it is faster though – hey I live in Zimbabwe and NOTHING happens quickly here (except of course state sponsored pilfering) and I don’t think I was blogging (drafts) in 1970. 😉
Great, I like it, thank you.
I like how I am able to respond to comments right within the dashboard, not having to go out to the blog->the right page then reply! the ‘make-over’ of the dashboard is cool! thanks!
great!!! nice!!!
The dashboard changes are a mixed bag. Nice color/aesthetics – Some nice features as well – Unfortunately, after using it for several days, I can say it is very counter-intuitive, confusing, frustrating. It feels like Vista after Windows XP.
I haven’t try to customizing it yet (will try later). Since you are not planing to have an option to use the old format, I will like to suggest to re-arrange the stuff on it to make it more logical, intuitive and structured. Many folks out there will appreciate like myself.
Besides my criticisms about this change, I will would like to congratulate all the development team for the great product that WP is!
i think its great, thanks guys
This is a way to update a dashboard! The best one I seen since I’ve joined WordPress!
I love WordPress. OK, having said that, I find it exhausting that developers and programmers always assume that people like to poke and prod, explore and “discover” new things. Some of us (yes, I know, a vast minority) just wanna type and publish. I don’t find this easier, “write” is now called “post” which isn’t the same thing, and there is no way I can “poke and prod” that lets me save a draft. This is the second or third time I’ve had to relearn stuff, and us geezers don’t have all that RAM left. Mine is full of the lyrics and chord changes of Beatles songs. Meh.
I think the new dashboard is missing something or somethings, like other colors besides blue and gray! i think you people need to let us get choices for what we want our dashboard to look like! also, get some theme choices! all the themes are sooooo colorless and lifeless!( except for the one’s with customisible headers, but you should know what i mean) so why don’t think about getting some new…..THEMES!!! i am sick and tired of these what? BORING THEMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO GET SOME NEW ONES!(sorry for getting so mad but i just like to express my feelings) so i don’t like the new dashboard.
I have really grown to like the new layout — I gave it a few days, played around and have found it very simple and easy to use. One feature I adore.. (let me give that to you with more emphasis) ADORE!!!!! is the “Quick Edit” when needing to quickly add/change tags/categories and other minor things.
I also really like the “bulk actions”, and am really really really hoping that under Links, a bulk action feature would be to make links visible or private.
Thanks so much for all the hard work, both before the release, and after.
Great design and layout
I love it so much, easier, cooler, cleaner, and more simple….
Liking the design. More refreshing and aestheticly pleasing than the old one (even the old one was good). It’s easier to get things done this way. Keep up the good work.
Very Nice, I like the new look!
I just started blogging today so I don’t know any different, so far so good!
I love it. Thanks WP.
Change is rule & I welcome these positive changes. Especially the speed.
Oh my God…even better than the first new design!! I love it.
can I used this new dashboard design to my own wordpress hosted in my own server? how? i really like it!
Yes! Check out WordPress.org for updates on the progress of WordPress 2.7.
Please seriously consider allowing the administrator to change the HTML (index page, at least) so that we can do minor alternation, e.g. autorefresh the screen. Besides, the gidgets are not enough and many of them are not user friendly. I moved my blog from blogspot.com half a month ago and found that there are many things I cannot do now. Regarding CSS, please allow us more space for modifications on the theme.
very nice layout…i love it
Requires getting used to it!
Please let the blog owners have a list of the Login Name and E-mail Address of their visitors who have been allowed to post comments.
Please let the blog owners have a list of the Login Name and E-mail Address of their visitors who have been allowed to post comments. Besides it should be very much appreciated if the server speed can be improved. Quite often it is too slow of page loading and comment posting.
You can see that info for past comments made under the Comments section on your dashboard. If you’d like to speed up your blogging, try out the Turbo feature.
I love it. So simple…
more smart 🙂
Really not bad.
How does one get their postings on the front page of WordPress? One of my postings had almost 300 hits a couple of days ago and I was not on the front page? How many does it take?
Posts on the front page are determined by a number of factors. The hits they receive often range above one thousand.
Change is good. Great work.
nice and clean, easy to use and compact. a home run guys! rock on!!
and thanks for all your hard work! 🙂
I find this new dashboard immense, I was taken back at first when I finished upgrading because I was like, “is it done? woah… where’s my blog gone. Oh, wait, this is my blog.”
But getting used to it after 5 mins of curious exploring I love it, it’s immense.
I’d even go as far as to say that it’s quite… sexy.
