Note: This post is a bit old and includes outdated instructions. Make it snow on your site by following these up-to-date instructions.
It’s 43 degrees outside, which is I think as cold as it gets in San Francisco. But there’s no reason we can’t turn down the thermometer here on WordPress.com.
That’s right, the snow is back!
Last year we were a little tardy with adding it so to make up we’re giving you almost a full month of snowy goodness.
How to make it rain snow?
- Go to your dashboard.
- Navigate to Appearance -> Extras.
- Check the box next to “Show falling snow on this blog.”
- Roast some chestnuts.
Oh the weather outside is frightful,
but this blog is sooo delightful
Until the internet gets slow,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
Those of you who turned on snow on last year will get it automatically. If you want to turn it off just do the steps above but uncheck the box.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
Yay!
And we’re supposed to get real snow here tonight!
Happy Holidays, everyone!
This is a really cool feature to add to our Blogs! Thanks WP.
really cool and cold!
how the heck does this work?
Thanks for the reminder, Matt.
Thank you for the snow! I love it, and my kids think it’s great. 🙂
That’s totally cool 😀
Merry Christmas y’all
sweet thanks wp!
ill put it on my blog right now!
It should last until march though!! Love it.
How utterly charming!
Whoo that’s is so cool
My daughter and I love to have this on our blogs. Both of us are crazy about snow, real or virtual! Thanks!!
LOL I love it! Thanks! But gee, only until January 4, 2009? Where I live, Kansas, the snow is just beginning in earnest! I’d love to see the snow special feature last until at least January 28, 2009. I love the snow on my blog. Say, in the spring…. thunderstorms??? 🙂
I LOVE the snow! My blog loves it too, I can just tell. Idea! Can we have options for rain and sunshine and clouds and falling leaves year round? (You had to know that would happen)
Thanks ever so much!
Your pal,
Mo
Oops! Me, again. I meant, I’d love for the snow feature to last until February 28, 2009. 🙂
Love the snow! Thanks 🙂
Dude, that happens in Colorado a lot! It happens every winter like 10 times!!
Wow the snow comes again 🙂
awsome
haha thanks.. this is so cold XD
I love it 🙂
I like that line about kids from 1 to 92,that’s a good massage and a hood.I fall in there somewhere and fit right in too, which is quite unusual for this lil kit.Thaks for sharing this with the snow affect.
Sorry, but snowess means slowness; this feature slowed things waaaaaay down on my site. I discontinued it and my site perked right up.
OMG I love it! I put a snow cloud for my header so it looks like the snow is coming out of the cloud! Cool stuff!
Sweet! This is sooooo cool, i was thinking that in the blogs that had it, was just a css. But, then i saw some more blogs and then, well, i wondered. 😀
hi matt, a good year wish you.
I hope to not forget Norowz,
you have christmas and I (Iranian and some country) have Norowz 🙂

Coolness! Even more proof that WordPress is the world’s best blogging platform!
ha! that’s really cool. i’m in SF missing the snow as well.
It’s snowing for real in Philly. Hurricane predicted it, and its’ happening! (Glenn “Hurricane” Shwartz is the weatherman for NBC 10 in Philly.)
He he… Cool… I’m from Romania and surprisingly, this year we won’t have snow… Well.. at least I have here XD
Thank you!
Sweet! that’s awesome
Oh! this is one of my favourite December pleasures… and my customized header is so perfectly tuned. Have a look, passing-by friends! Thanks WP
I love the snow!!! Just wondering why it only lasts until January 4th. Christmas goes for 12 days, so it would be nice for the snow to last until the 6th.
I like it. Much better here than on the roads.
Ya snow is cool.
Lol that’s great!
Same thing happened to my blog this year as last when the snow began to fly. My gravatar and other blog features went wacky. Maybe a coincidence…I think not.
The snow is great! I love it – we don’t get much here in Huntington Beach!
Thank you!!
It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!! LOVE IT – thanks.
lovely, thanks bunch.
I’m dreaming of a white christmas *sigh*
It’s hot and humid here is Queensland Aus and this is the closest I’ll get to my white christmas LOL Thanks heaps and lots of ho ho ho happy times to you all *grin*
THANK YOU for bringing the snow back!! 🙂
AWESOME WORDPRESS!!!! This place just gets better and better.
Braybon9~
Great! Love the snow and WordPress. 🙂
Thank you so much! LOVE the snow!
This is so cool, especially since I just put up a snowman on my blog. Thank you for creating this. We are still waiting for some snow in the Pacific Northwest – expect some in the next week or so.
Merry Christmas!! Marci
In Santiago, Chile, there’s not a snow! T.T
Clever song edit.
Quote of the year (all credit going to my friend Rosie M.)
“Life is short, eat a cookie”
This is the good snow…the one I don’t have to shovel!!!
San Francisco, our lovely City of Contradictions, may *never snow, but it at least always makes us think it will at any minute. In the words of Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.” Today’s snow is no mere snow, but the realization of a promise SF weather has been making for a long time. Don’t just apply snow to your page; apply San Francisco Snow.
Sweet this is a awesome thing to add to a blog
Hey that’s hyper cool. I do not regret switching from blogging into Drupal to WordPress. WordPress rocks! keep up the good job, wordpress team! Best of luck 😀
wow great, i ll try it…
Awesome!!! Thanks!
ditto all, whahoo.
It’s the only way to see some snow in my city, because it only rains cats, dogs and cows.

Thank you!
thank you, cool snow season 🙂
Love this feature! But… it crashes firefox 3 on my computer (T_T) I guess I have to switch it off.
Thank you wonderful computer programmers. It’s 27 degrees here and I am still waiting for snow, so this is great to fill in.

Wow! Snow is back! Thank you, WP, and merry Christmas and happy 2009!

Let it snow… let it snow… let it snow ♥
Fantastic! Seguid así chicos!!
Not that it is super needed here in Sweden to have a blog with falling snow…
we have quite enough outside; however, it makes it more “Christmas-ish” and I love it.
So thank you, very cool feature! ^_^
You had me fooled for a moment, I kept thinking how can it be snowing @ 43degrees?
My kids like it – thanks a lot. How about enhancing the period – only in case we do not get real snow here again …
THANKS! It´s wonderful – and here in Finland we have snow now 🙂
Wonderful! Thank you for the Christmas feel!
Thank you and happy holiday

Thank you!!! Happy Snow Days.
oh my goodness! I was just tweeting about missing snow…yay
I saw the falling snow on Uphilldowndale and was enchanted – had to go get some for Torch Lake Views. (It’s 16 degrees F. here in northern Michigan, so it’s entirely appropriate!) Thanks for the seasonal fun!
It is 18 degrees here and it is snowing :O) thanks for the tip though
Got loooads of snow where I live in Norway. My shortcut to the bus doesn’t feel shorter anymore, I have to walk about 20 meter with snow up to my knees.. 😛 Might aswell add some snow to my blog then, eh. ^^
