I’ll bet you never thought you’d see the day when you looked forward to moderating your comments, but this might just be it. Comment moderation has been vastly improved, with all kinds of little tools and changes to help keep things quick and painless.
The Comments menu of your dashboard has a new, beautiful layout. Above the comments queue, you’ll see options to filter by Pending (formerly known as Awaiting Moderation), Approved, and Spam:

Below the text of each comment you’ll find action links, which let you Approve, Mark as Spam, Delete, Edit, Quick Edit, and Reply straight from the dashboard. After you’ve approved a comment, you can also Unapprove. All of these are color coded to help you move along faster than ever.
There’s also a section called In Response To, from which you can:
- Click on the number of comments displayed in the talk bubble to filter your comments view to only show comments on that post or page.
- Click the title of a post or page to go to the edit view for that post or page.
- Click on the # sign that appears next to the comment count to go to the post or page itself, on your blog.
To navigate to a specific comment on your blog, click the timestamp that displays after Submitted On.
You can batch edit comments by checking the boxes that appear next to each title. Then select the action you’d like to take from the Bulk Actions dropdown.

Comments also appear in the Discussion module on the Edit Posts screen. Action links, user info, and a comment permalink all appear here:

Action links also appear in the Recent Comments module on your dashboard, including pending comments, which display as highlighted:

Finally, you can moderate comments using keyboard shortcuts after enabling this feature under My Account > Edit Profile. Use J to go down and K to go up the rows, and use A to approve, S to mark as spam, D to delete, E to edit, and R to reply.

That’s just about the most totally rad thing I’ve heard all week!
I presume this has been asked somewhere before, but I can’t find it. Is there any way of giving commenters the scope to edit (or delete) their own comments prior to any subsequent replies (or prior to “acceptance” by the Blogger)?
Hey, the new look is pretty cool, thank you very much.
However, we also anticipated new features, which are still missing. For example, the “bulk edit” feature would have been pretty cool, if it was really bulk edit. By “bulk edit” I understand “add/remove tags & categories on multiple comments” and “move multiple comments to a different post”. Especially that “move a comment to a different post” feature would have been very useful even regardless of bulk.
Also, some things have been broken. For example, when I am editing a comment, the datetime displayed is *not* in the datetime format which I have chosen in the options page. This is a bit more of a nuisance than you might think, because quite often I need to copy-paste that datetime, so as of WordPress 2.7 every time I do that I have to rearrange the numbers. (I have already notified support about this.)
WordPress has so many followers because overall, it is much better than blogspot. This, however, should not make you guys think that every single thing about the way you do things is better thought of and better implemented than in blogspot. There are some things that the blogspot guys have done better than you, and you would only benefit by looking at what they have done and copying it. Their form for entering comments with captcha and preview is an example of such a thing, and if you had done it that way you would be sparing us all from most of the time that we currently have to spend on the comment moderation page.
There will be upgrades and improvements as we move through the development cycle. What you see in your dashboard today is in no way what it will be forever. WordPress is undergoing very active development and improvements are always being made.
i’ve got to admit that it’s pretty cool
“Edit” is the wrong word for what you are doing with Posts, Comments, Links and everything else.
“Manage” is the correct term. All you are doing is using the wrong word consistently. And it is the wrong word.
You are confusing old and new users alike.
WordPress is a blog management system where you can Search, Insert, Alter and Delete blog entities.
Get your heads straight and correct your terminology.
I’m very need this, thanks to team Wp. Good Luck
I love this
wp is top of the blog
I do I add a comments section on my blog?
Your comments section is there automatically.
Thanx for yaur information
I will learn later..
I love the new look and everything looks a lot organized than before. Thanks for the new look and feel.
Its really a cool feature..
Actually, you are right: I have learned to love it.
Something that would be REALLY helpful is to be able to approve ALL of the comments in your moderation queue at once. I often have a few thousand comments to approve and it takes a LONG time, even approving them page by page.

I always like seeing what comments I have. I almost never have to properly moderate. Just get rid of the spam thats caught in the filter lol.
luv it! thanks WP! 🙂
Great….. Great……. Job WP team.
(Speechless)
Awesome……
If I could have one thing, it would be for the comments that end up in the spam bucket to be shown in something less than their full length. It seems I’m spending a lot of keystrokes paging through single comments. It’s easy to see whether a comment is spam or not based on the first three lines of it and that is all that should be shown. The rest is just wasted space with no new information.
Am I already in paradise?
Hi! The new wordpress features is really nice. The only thing I really miss is the option to “follow” the new comments, not in my blog but in another wordpress….
God bless
JM
I luv it so…
The new design of comment moderation is quite good. One thing I don’t know is that, if the comment needs to be approved, will the commenter know this when submitting a comment?
Yes. A message appears letting the commenter know that their comment is being held for moderation — just like on this blog 🙂
I like to make blog in wordpress because the feature of wordpress is always update….wordpress forever
I really like it! Off topic… but is it possible to import old Blogger blogs to WordPress?
Yes! Please check out this page from Support.
Here’s another vote for changeable “Font and Size”! (see comment by egylover, above)
And for “Hierarchical Comments” … Still getting used to the changes… ; )
awesome i love the upgrades!!
Thanks for the great article, Heather. As I’m new to WordPress it really helps. Looks like I’ve found a new place to have fun.
I like new wordpress 2.7. There is so many new feature, including comment section 😉
I like this idea
I am enjoying all the new features! So far I like the set up!
“I’ll bet you never thought you’d see the day when you looked forward to moderating your comments, but this might just be it”
Well, with the number of comments I get, I’m just happy to get a chance to shake the cobwebs off 😉
WordPress continues to be a fantastic, and growing program and that’s a great thing.
I wish more people went on my blog so I could see how great this is. 😦
I like the new features! Thanks for the tip WP Team! ~Pinkgirl3919
That’s sick (in a good way) but it doesn’t really effect me because I rarely get comment moderartion.
I liked these improvements… made life easier. Thanks.
i wish i got enough comments to control them! 🙂 guess i should write more
Nice features, I like it for simple ways to do things.
