We’re happy to announce the launch of our first new theme this year: Grid Focus, by Derek Punsalan.
It’s a clean and simple three-column theme with a couple of special features you’ll dig:
- Two widget areas. Widgets on Grid Focus can be placed in two sidebars.
- Front page icon synced with your blavatar. The blue icon that appears on the front page of Grid Focus by default will change to your blavatar if you’ve uploaded one.

I don’t really like it. Here is why:
1.) The left column is so narrow to embed Videos (i.e. YouTube-Videos)
2.) The RSS-Feed can not be changed to my feedburner Feed.
Those two points are the only reason I’m not using the themen.
Can you change that?

You can adjust the video size. Check out the YouTube help page at support.wordpress.com. The main feed cannot be changed at the moment.
The older version of Grid Focus was my first love. When I did a major overhaul of my blog, I lept up with joy when I found it. Then, I tweaked it for weeks until it looked exactly like my dream theme.
Then, my readers collectively decided they liked Blue Zinfandel better.

You can find Grid Focus under Apperance > Themes in your dashboard. It’s currently on the third page, in alphabetical order.

Not in the short term, but there is a way to add PayPal to your WordPress.com blog right now.

This theme doesn’t have a custom header. You can view all themes with custom headers by selection that filter from the dropdown under Appearance > Themes.
I would like to see more themes with customisable headers and third party widgets to just paste a code for nice backgrounds like Blogger has. In fact I like how Blogger allows people to customise the colours, fonts, sizes etc. on the Blog. I prefer WordPress, but bemoan the fact that it does not give the same choices and options for layouts (free of charge) like Blogger does. In my perfect world, WordPress should be better than Blogger!
WordPress.com has many blogging features we hope you’ll love, and we are continuously working to add the best themes and new features. Here are some instructions for how to change all aspects of font, font size, and font color. Also, backgrounds are customizable using the Custom CSS upgrade.

Like the comment No.9 from Victoria, i got both widgets of meta and ‘weird blogroll’ on my sidebar which can’t be removed.
That meta’s not a problem, but the ‘weird blogroll’ shows all the links that i divide before. So that links went double appear. 🙂

Victoria and Haris, you can modify the widgets on the far right sidebar in the Grid Focus theme by adding widgets to the “Secondary – Shared” sidebar. Look for it in a drop down menu at the top right o the Widgets admin page. The Meta and Links (aka Blogroll) widgets are the default widget set for that space.
I Love it, (how did the Oscar actress go?) I really really love it! PressRow has served me nicely, but this is a great way to start 2009. Do you know how much work you have created for me now, thanks so much.

I have a recipes blog in spanish, and I have seen a large number of recipe blogs in english and other languages in WP. I think we would all like to have a kitchen or recipes related theme to choose from.

Many of the themes we already have could easily be made into really great recipe blogs. Here are a few examples: Casserole Crazy, have cake, will travel!, and vegan visitor. You can expect more themes to customize to your taste in the near future. 🙂 Also note that we are working to make sure all of the themes are translation-ready, so if you find one that isn’t, drop us a line and let us know.

Would I ever be able to submit one of my own themes to wordpress? I am working on one.
There is a selection process, managed by our designers, to decide which themes get added to WordPress.com. We don’t have a formal submission process, but if you think there’s a theme that is really excellent, you can let us know through the WordPress.com contact form.

First of all thanks a lot for the new theme. Now my wish list – I would love to have a lot of themes for use by WordPress bloggers that works well with older versions of IE and Firefox as well and a lot of sidebar widgets from the present figure of 24.

While we design to be as compatible with as many browsers as possible, the newest version of Firefox and Google Chrome are preferred. Thanks for the widgets suggestion.

Nice theme but its hard to find can you tell me what page it is so I can find it more easily 😉 .
You can filter the themes by tag, try selecting ‘white’ or ‘minimal’ in the drop down menu on the Appearance -> Themes page and then click the Filter button.

my blog is the Beauty Mania and concerns about beauty. i like Grid focus. it seems that Grid focus is simple yet organized. however, it is perfect if we can use the custom header.
