Happy Holidays! To spice up the coming weekend I’m here to present you with Duotone. Duotone is the successor to our highly popular photo blogging theme, Monotone. Duotone is very similar, but comes with lots of under the hood enhancements.

Along with an enhanced color algorithm that automatically picks the best colors to accent your image, Duotone carries some nice options for choosing a static color background.
Duotone also sports a nice widget area down at the bottom of the page. Perfect for three widgets of your choice.
And to appeal to the avid photographers, EXIF data is now shown for photographs if it exists.
We hope you enjoy Duotone!
Check out the demo over at http://duotonedemo.wordpress.com

Very cool! To carolinegorka – what skin are you using for your blog? Very sharp and clear photos.
really nice…
loving it.
yeah Cool.
Just updated my Photo blog but not sure if i will add this theme 🙂
ok, the picture blog now has no excuse
It looks Great!
THANK YOU DUOTONE!!! I WILLBE STARS AND STRIPES AS SOON AS I TAKE TIME TO MAKE IT ALL HAPPEN!!!!
nice……..
but I don’t wanna use this themes
Wow, care to elaborate on the color choosing algorithm?
We’re evaluating the photograph in nine spots located by using the rule of thirds. We take that value convert the hex color to HSV(B) and look at the saturation and brightness to try and select the most appropriate color. After that we create an array with brighter and darker monochromatic shades of the photograph. All these functions are in duotonelibrary.php (if you download the theme) – they can be used independently of Duotone.
Pretty!
Happy New Year!
FINALLY!!! Well done!
Regarding the three widgets… has anyone else had a hard time dragging the three widgets to the tray on the left and getting them to stay there? I certainly could not. I also noticed that I could not get any of them to stay there when I went to view and then went back to the options page. A little quirky, but I imagine these issues will be worked out, OR if it is operator error then the instructions will be better written?
Hoping for some fixes. 🙂
Happy New Year!
If dragging the widgets isn’t working well for you, you can switch to accessibility mode.
nice! i wish i had a photo blog…
You should set one up!
hmm.. just 4 words… wow thats f**king amazing… haaah,
good job, keep creating something amazing
I like
very cool ! 😉
Nice to see a tutorial website that realizes good design. Thank you so much for everything you do to improve our creative.
that’s a good pic blog , i liked the way he displayed
Great!
I’ve been looking for it since you did the demo for the Ferndale WordPress group in November.
I’ll be giving it a try soon!
Thank you,
Gary
This is very nice. I particularly like the vivid colors and very attractive desgns

Thanks – just what I was looking for – just posted my first blog using it 🙂
super 🙂
Thanks to Anthony for the stylesheet editing info. Black is best – I use Black Letterhead by Ulysses Ronquillo for my book blog. If only there were time for a photoblog too…
i like this theme, but the only problem i find with it is that i like to have atleast 5-10 posts on the main page. so far, it seems that this doesn’t allow. probably because it captures the colors of the main post? anyways… i might try it again for my photo blog.
Looks awesome. But, honestly, what I really need is a theme decorated with old books. That would be perfect.
amazing, good work….
this is cool. thanks!
good job !
that is very nice . I like it so much .
Thanks süper themes. that is wery nice
Beautiful. 🙂 As they say, perfect for photography. And great for normal blogging, of course. 😀
looks great! good work. 🙂
I don’t like it
Very nice. I’ve been tempted by monotone for a while but it doesn’t suit all of my photos
Very nice appearence of the scenery of the bottom of sea. Big fish with full colour.
Alot of you all have some really awesome blogs and themes– keep up the good work
I use this on both my new blogs. I started with monotone, but I like this even more. Simple, uncluttered and very stylish. Thank you very much!
Legal!
Looks good!
thank you very much
Yeah baby, yeah!! How do I get my hands on duotone??? please help…
To turn on Duotone, just go to your WordPress.com Dashboard > Appearance > Themes > search for Duotone > click Activate.
awesome i’m liking it 🙂
Is that a new technical innovation in the field of photography?
Even if the colors sometimes might seem a little “vibrant” (as mentioned above), what really works for me is the simplicity. I just upload the photo, add some text, and automaticaly get all the rest done. And it’s also a win because the photos appear with a decent size. Keep up the great work.
Looking forward for the “Triotone” 😀
Happy 2010.
Very nice 🙂
it’s nice background
I decided not to use it ..don’t think it suits my personal style of photography..but that’s just me..I like the idea.
To avantehandsfree …I am using Black Letterhead – think it is really smart, but doesn’t detract from what I’m posting …and thankyou !
that’s very cool, i like it.
Yes, what Eszeter said 🙂
“Why not a savvy black theme finally? We only have two of them, and they are the most frequently used themes”
We love Monotone but have wanted widgets so a Duotone upgrade is just what we need for 2010 — thanks!
I like the layout just not the colors but that’s an easy fix
Thanks!
I have to agree with the comments about the colours being to bright. It takes away from the beautiful colours in the photos.
I started up a new blog today and tried out this theme–so far so good! Even though it’s not a photoblog, I like how colorful and dynamic it makes the featured image and the page.
beautiful
Nothing special I think. Maybe some more colours?
Very nice theme.
hi, welcome Vietnamese :), happy new year
Woo Hoo!
Bright Fish !!
Yea, agree! This theme is meant for photography blog. Thinking of revamp my blog now. 🙂
That’s pretty cool…
Happy New Year and Good luck for all. GBU
i love this theme!
I loved monotone, but couldn’t use it due to the lack of widget support. Now… I love this! But, and it’s a biggie, my most recent blog post contains TWO photographs. When I previewed this theme it would only show the one photograph. Is there anything that can be done about this? Generally I only post one photo, but when I do post two it’s for good reason. I’d switch to this theme in a heartbeat if I knew that it would be updated to support multiple photos in a post.
Nice one
this is great for pet lovers that blog about animals, I am going to suggest they do one with cute dogs and cats on it too.
Hey guys, just one minor trouble I’m having on Duotone: I’m updating several posts with the “Insert More tag” feature. In one of the posts it updated rather fast, while in others I’m still refreshing/waiting to see it changed. Am I being impatient / forgetting something / doing anything wrong?

On the possibility of adding more images in the same Duotone post: this has been mentioned above, and I agree that it would be interesting. On the other hand, allowing for a post to have more than one photo would mean distancing from the “core objective” of Duotone as I see it, which is (imo) focusing on *each photograph* at a time. So ultimately, I think it’s fine as it is, and you can always link the posts (i.e., photos) – which might help increase your stats.
Great idea.
It is worth a test.

This is a wonderful design but we wished that it was all tested in all Browser Platforms before it was published.
It looks great in both Firefox and Chrome but the Navigation in IE is somewhere in outer space.
Please update us, when this issue is resolved – we’d greatly appreciated. For now – our group have downgraded to Monotone but it doesn’t represent the full capabilities of our presentation. Thank you.
