Vostok is an elegant one-column theme sporting a dark background and light text that is readable and easy on the eyes. The minimal layout is perfect for publishing your personal lifestream in a clutter-free layout.

Options include a custom header image, custom background image and color, and a full navigation menu in the header. For a completely steamlined look—and to put the focus completely on your content—both the header image and header navigation menu are hidden unless you choose to display them.

Two columns at the bottom of the page are ready for all your widgets, and a full page navigation menu is always visible in the footer.

The Vostok theme is now available for your WordPress.com blog and, for self-hosted WordPress.org blogs, from vostoktheme.com.
Yes, I like this theme. It’s very nice.
Not really the best, I am afraid to say. The last few themes really pushed my expectations up. But then again, I don’t like black themes much nor do I like one columns. So, keep ’em coming!
It looks nice, but I’m a sucker for widgets, so I’ll not try this one.
Nice but the previous themes were just so awesome that this one doesn’t really stands out… but it’s beautiful.
Very nice! Not impressive but easy to use.
Hmmn, so many new themes that are so interesting for me to try. Love it !
It is indeed very nice and clean… 🙂
This is sweet. I’ve been looking for a photoblog theme that doesn’t introduce extraneous issues and this just may be it, thanks!
I’m working on a new blog and it’s exciting to play with the new themes! Thanks WordPress! Keep rolling them out!
Easy on the eyes… looks good to me!
Nice… I like it.
That’s OK but can you please make Kubrick, the standard blog theme in a wider layout? Keep it the same as it is but maybe make the width of the photos up to 550 wide? 450 is really quite small 😦 I really hope you can help!
@Lorna: If you like Kubrick but want a wider theme you can try the new WordPress default theme, Twenty Ten.
Nice theme! Thanks for the hard work, guys, hehe.
Like Like Like. So happy about custom background! Perfect typography.
Very nice but the font is a bit simple. Thanks for more themes!
People sure jump on these new themes fast – it’s like the instant I read the post about it and BAM, dozens of people have it in use in a matter of seconds, it seems.
Putting the links at the bottom of the page just doesn’t work.
I’d still like a them with pictures that go across two columns of words – with a third column for links.
I want the editorial columns to be thin and as easily read as a newspaper column.
@ourman: We’re sorry this theme didn’t make the cut for you, but we’re continuing to launch more and more themes so stay tuned.
I am not personally included towards dark themes with white text, but this one makes me want to reconsider that position.
Good work, but I think the last themes are better.
I think I might give this a go if I find more problems with the Hemingway theme.
It’s so good,
I liked the ‘Vostok’ view very much yet sometimes WordPress mentions widgets, tags and other unnecessary and odd things etc; which I find difficult to set up! So I become bored – mind-numbingly so, and not only I, my friends on WordPress also. So make it simpler for us to understand — please?
New Themes just keep popping up and I am having a hard time choosing. Great job — keep them coming!
Good work… nice theme.
Wonderful theme! ^_^ Absolutely loving the header image!
Decided to try this for my Buddhist journal and it looks quite nifty. It works well for this purpose.
Nice! I love minimalist themes 😉
Well, didn’t work on my blog. You know it would really help if you told us the max width of these themes…
@memartine That is a great idea, thanks for the feedback.
I really like it! I always grow dissatisfied with other themes rather quickly because they feature so many features and options – while I only need a minimalistic space that’s clean enough to be comfortable reading the posts! Thanks guys! Really looking forward to newer theme options!
Nice. But cannot fit much.
Very nice! The “sidebars” being at the bottom still throws me off, but I like the look in this one.
Am I the only one that’s noticed the name of the theme is a Russian word? I like it! Though I agree with everyone else… it’s a bit like every other theme on here.
Wow… Like the colors but three columns would have been much better.
Very nice! Thank you for sharing!
Perfect for a photo-blogger! Impressive indeed…
Very nice, great for the eyes…
Beautiful colors, so good. 🙂
I’m loving this one. I think I’ve finally found the new theme for my blog. 🙂
I am impressed.
Good theme…. not bad.
I like it. A wonderful theme. It’s my style.
Very nice theme!
Nice design. Very interesting.
Yes, indeed. I rather like that as well. Initially I was wondering where blogroll, etc, would be, but it turns out very nicely. Impressive idea!
I like it! *-*
Yeah… my first comment. I like this theme.
Nice theme, and can y’all check out my blog? It’s not that good but I need views so my teacher doesn’t kill me. I’m gonna try to get that new theme.
Oooooo, nice. What’s with all these great themes, you’re spoiling us. You should keep it coming though… haha. I almost want to switch…
Nice theme!!!
Yes, looks very nice. I appreciate it.
Love it.
Good theme but maybe something more creative?
Very simple and nice, but give me a limited options.
It’s very soothing to the eyes.
I wish I could have kept this one but it limited my poetry layout.
It’s cool and kinda relaxing come to think of it. 🙂 I like it!
Grey + blue is always a great combination. I heart Vostok.
Actually the WordPress themes are very rich in look but not convenient. My favorite is Rubric but it is two column, there is no menu type categories just like in Motion. I am waiting for a theme, which has “Rubric theme” style, but with 3 columns and menu bar just with Motion. That will be the best theme.
Lol, why VOSTOK?!
Really, would you expect me to read the text for more than 3 seconds? It’s too much work on the eyes. Otherwise a nice visual, but not usable for a text-heavy blog.
Nice and simple.
For the next theme I want a REALLY BIG HEADER!
The new theme Vostok looks good to me. Good on eyes; it’s a nice theme and I will to try it out.
Looks good, and simple and very professional. I’ll definitely consider using it.
Very nice, I like it a lot… Awesome!
Love the colors and simplicity, I’d probably switch to it if there were a side column for widgets rather than all at the bottom.
Yay! I really like this theme. Simple, single-column themes do it for me, although I’d prefer to be able to pick and choose what I want as Mike said.
Just so you know what I like: a single, wide column (what’s the point of wasting all that screen space?), fully customisable colours (background, headers, etc), own choice of header picture. Yay!
Nice one, I like it !
Thanks for sharing it.
Well, a great effort! I give you a thumbs up.
Too simplistic, but good.
I definitely like it… I like the option without the header image, it seems more streamlined, especially if you’re going to be doing many image posts.
I agree with comments from Mike and Carros Antigos about more options to tweak a theme. I’m new with WordPress and so far find it much better than Blogger in many ways, but the themes are a bit overwhelming. I’d prefer fewer basic choices but more options, e.g. colours, fonts, column width. That can’t be too hard can it?
Great theme, it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for!
It is very simple, but thanks to this simplicity it’s a great base to create something extraordinary! Custom header combined with custom background, and widgets placed in footer gives you a chance to change a standard blog into e.g. a real homepage.
Thanks for Vostok, it rocks. 😉
I’m using this : ) It’s nice theme.
Still waiting for a successor for the Neutra theme used in my blog…. hehe.
Sweet! I had been hoping for something like this.
Good stuff!
Awesome. Going to try it out, im sure it will work perfectly for showing my photographs and tutorials. Thanks! 🙂
This may be good for posting photos.
This would be great for a photography blog. I like the hidden navigation bar and header — more blogs should have those options. Thanks!
Thanks for the opportunity to give some feedback. I’ve been with Rubric for a year and a half now, primarily because of the flexible width, and the customizable header. As for custom headers, I do prefer those that sweep all the way across, as opposed to the postage stamp ones, as in Rubric.
But the flexible width feature is more important. Dumb question: why are there so very few themes with flexible widths? I read through most of the above comments, and am glad to see that several agreed with me, as to the narrow width, especially for displaying photographs. For a serious photographer, the column is just too narrow. I do love the dark background, and the one column/no sidebar simplicity of it. I actually tried Vostok for several days, but went back to Rubric, due to the shrunken photos in the narrow column.
What really is the likelihood of you developing a Vostok with a wider column width? Or just more flexible width options overall? And/or a white Vostok, again, with wider column? I would quickly convert to either. Please, and thanks!
I am glad to see this year you are cranking out some new themes. They make such a difference in the presentation.
Keep up the good work. I so appreciate the functionality of WordPress.
Hmm… I don’t like it.
It’s good but it’s like another theme, there is no new idea there.
Tranquil. Good job.
Good work. Keep it up.
Very nice looking. 😉
Not bad. Feels very static though.
I like this theme except for the list of pages and subpages at the end of the blog
Nice & neat! Thanks for sharing.
Great for my photos. Thanks!
Can’t decide whether it’s actually minimalistic or pretty much just plain… It’s better than the ones with so much stuff on them.
Lookd good. Nice work.
Love it!
Ick. No offense dude, but this isn’t a very nice theme.
I liked my other theme very much, and I didn’t think I’d switch so soon but I couldn’t resist. Vostok is just FABULOUS!
Not for me, but design is very nice.
It’s a very elegant and gentle theme.
Can you introduce a rocking theme please?
