Today’s new theme is Notepad. A richly styled and beautiful, personal theme inspired by iPhone’s Notes application.

With Notepad you have the option of displaying expertly designed icons that link to your profile on Twitter, Facebook or Flickr. Simply add the appropriate URL in Appearance > Theme Options. There’s even an optional RSS feed icon that fits in perfectly.

I really like the Notepad theme’s bubbly drop-down menus—great for keeping all your pages neatly organized—and I think you’ll like them too.

I hope you’ll find the Notepad theme’s visual flourishes and careful focus on graphical detail as exciting as I do. Check it out. It just might be the perfect theme for your blog.
The Notepad theme is available in your WordPress.com dashboard under Appearance > Themes and, for WordPress.org users, in the WordPress.org themes directory.
Nice theme! Will be using this now, thanks!
Kindly include black as a color scheme option. Much obliged.
That is a nice clean theme. It reminds me of the old Bolton Transport (UK, 1962 – 1969) livery. You could also consider green instead of brown for a future version (which would remind of the old Stalybridge, Hyde, Mossley and Dukinfield Joint Board, UK 1965 – 1969).
Hi, I like WordPress very much but I don’t like this theme. It is too simple and uninteresting.
Loving the look! I’m sure it would be great for a personal blog, just jotting down… well, notes and such.
Very nice. I would like to change the color of this theme with more color options.
I love the colours! It appears to be a very neat, clean theme, and very easy to navigate…something I find many themes lacking. Thanks for creating it!
My eyes! That yellow is k-i-l–l-i-n-g me. There’s a reason most sites don’t use certain color combos; the fact is, my eyes are literally aching from just a few seconds previewing that theme. This isn’t just an aesthetic issue; it’s a usability issue. For certain people, myself included, that color combo is not usable. The thing is, it can be done, with similar colors, in a way that doesn’t burn your eyes beyond hope. LiveJournal does a black on white version which is much more bearable (it’s found under the Bloggish/Stylish Contest themes) and a black and brown on tan and yellow version that while not lovely, doesn’t make you want to toss your eyes across the room. I love, love, love Notepad layouts, and this one has nice bone structure, no denying it, but that color combo has got to go.
Alright. Awesome addition, this. Now some of the more popular themes out there are getting in on WP.com! Way to go!
This is a nearly perfect theme. If you could change the colors without the css upgrade then it’d be the perfect theme. 🙂
I just changed my theme to notepad and I really love it!! It’s perfect! 😀
Its ok not as original as some of the other ones that have come out recently. It’s great that you’re developing all of these great themes, when are we going to get some new widgets?
Looks great! It’s good to see that there are more attractive themes available now, keep up the good work!
This looks fabulous – must give it a try 🙂
Good job. Probably some day you will invent something comparable with “The journalist 1.3” theme, though I don’t hope at it – it is really impossible to do anything better.
That’s very nice. 🙂 Two thumbs up.
I love this theme – so easy to read, nice touches without being too design-heavy – I had to have it right away! 🙂
Finally. I got the theme that I wanted. It is so beautiful. I fell in love at first sight. Thank you so much. I love it, love it.
By the way, I can’t change the CSS, but I did peek at it to find the hex code for the dark brown this theme uses, so I could put a border in that same color around all of my thumbnails. It’s pretty easy to do. After you insert your photo, click to edit it, go to advanced settings, and add the border color (border: 1px solid #644527;) under styles.
Another good-looking, easily usable theme. I’ll have to give it a demo. Thanks for yet another new one!
Awesome. This theme is special.
It’s nice but I don’t really like the colors. I see others have asked if they can be changed…so I will refrain from asking again!
I’m sorry but don’t really like it. I like the Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and RSS menu! Maybe the colours should have been different. 🙂
I love the drop down menus. Cool theme!
I like this theme and will probably try it out at one point in time. I wish there were color options but being that it’s WordPress.com I will settle for what I can get. Thanks!
What a great looking new theme! I love it! The colours are just right, and you also have top page navigation that I like and of course the side ones too! 😀
If you are a sort of person that likes a theme to portray what you are, ie. a writer, you choose the theme with the pen at the top, or a journalist, so you choose the journalist theme, or if you work with notepads, again this is perfect with it being a notepad look! 😀
Nice; I’m using it now and seeing if this is the one that sticks 🙂 Thanks for these constant themes; it’s really great work that you guys do – and FREE? Unbelievable and wonderful 🙂
It’s cool. But I think a color-customization option would be great!
I love the variety – the QUALITY you put into the new themes you roll out is really apparent. Change is good and you always give us the opportunity to do that.
You are almost hitting my buttons. This would have been perfect if I had nicer footers.
I’m pretty good with HTML but CSS leaves me dumbfounded. If it didn’t I would change the color and use it…
I like the colors. It’s a fantastic theme, thanks a lot Ian.
Wow! What a great looking theme… 🙂
Nice theme. I’ll try this. Thanks a lot.
I don’t like it 😦 Got my hopes up when I saw the name of it but it was not what I expected.
Notepad makes me think of lined paper, pens (preferably old fashioned fountain pens) and spiral notepads I guess, and crumpled up paper and yeah something old fashioned…
I can see that others might like it, but its not for me
Hey, I love the layout. Please throw in a darker scheme — a grey one would be fantastic.
First reaction: love it, love, it, love it, love it! Simple, looks great, in brown no less. Nice twist with the feed URLs in theme options. Just perfect for my blog. Great job!
Wow! It is cute… I like it. Simple, yet catchy.
You just keep ’em coming, don’t you? Another great one, thanks!
Really nice but it’s too simple of a theme, I think.
Really really nice theme. I’ve been using the default theme since I started on WordPress. Finally, a new theme is very close to convince me to change. Thanks a lot.
Great! I think the brown is actually a nice change of flavor from the more frequent black. And thanks for all these new themes!
So beautiful and minimalist. 🙂
Mmmm… not bad but not for me, either.
Is there a Customisable Header option? Cool theme, well done.
@●.ℓנє98
This theme doesn’t have a custom header at the moment, but it’s something we’re planning to add in the future.
I really love it. 😀
Love the warmth! It’s flexible for different kinds of customers.
Good job Mr. Stewart!
I do like the colors.
May try it.
Yes – color options would prevent it from getting “old”. Would perk it up occasionally if I could change them. But very well done, otherwise!
As long as it doesn’t come bundled with Windows 95…
This theme is cool, but my question is… WHY BROWN! 😦
Cool. I like it.
Its a stunning theme guys, really great job.
Pretty colours but something seems to be missing… maybe just not completely my style.
I like it but I would prefer a CMS, not for me either.
Really nice Ian. I really like the colour scheme and the drop-downs! Awesome! I’ve been waiting for a notepad theme for a really long time, I’ll surely use it! 🙂 It’s really innovative and has a sense of calmness!
I LOVE this. Exactly what I want. Nice & neat, but the color just wont work. Would love other color options – like a white notepad, or a gray scheme.
Nothing special. Not my cup of tea.
I absolutely love this theme. Thank you so much! 😉
That theme looks pretty cool but I like the theme “contempt” better.
Another jewel in the crown. Such an awesome theme. What I like the most and what I was expecting is the paper background. It’s like you are writing on your hard copy.
Awesome. I wished you guys could’ve made the width flexible.
My favourite style of Menu Buttons, and in almost the perfect colour/shade that I want to use.
That alone is a good enough reason for me to use it on one of my blogs.
I wish the colors were shades of red and blue.
Love the strong simple architecture — but the colors are just way too blah — I would not pause long enough to read it. 😦
Love it! If I could tweak the colors it would be a must-have. It’s so close to perfect!
Just one of the best.
I think the current color is nice, I mean notepads are supposed to be yellow right? However, the type is a bit small. After a few customizations I will give this theme a go at it.
I have just activated this theme. Good looking.
I really appreciate all the hard work WordPress is putting into these themes. Would love this theme with different colour options + more picture options. I’ve been looking for a new theme with the twitter, facebook, flckr buttons but I would like them in another position-to the right. Would love to have a theme with options to load your own pictures as a background + colour options, all the social media buttons, sharing options and drop down menus. 🙂
Feels like having an iPhone notes on my screen, LOL. NICE!!!!
I like it sir. It’s very cool.
I only like the header icons…the rest UGLY.
i think its awesome. its just not wide enough for my taste. i post a lot of large images and they just dont fit with this theme
Oh boy, now, do I switch themes, or stick with what I have? If only it had a customizable header…
I try every time to change my blog’s theme .. but I can’t stay on it more than 3 weeks 😀
but now with notepad … I think I have my theme .. really I Iove it with its romance color … It’s very fair to the personal blogs .
I find it strange that there is no mention of the the theme’s author on this post.
It was created by Nick La of N.Design Studio and Web Designer Wall, in case anyone’s curious.
Nick is an awesome designer (and illustrator!) and his work on the Notepad theme is astounding. We made sure to link to his WordPress.org version of this theme in the announcement and he’s credited in the footer of the theme.
Very nice Theme Team – nice enough for me to consider a switch Thirteen…. decisions, decisions…
Thank you for the continuous efforts to make it easier for the likes of me to express the otherwise random gibberish in their mind.
If this had a custom header, it would be perfect.
I really like this theme, but it would be better if there was a range of colors we could choose from (like blue, silver, green, purple, etc).
Looks awesome. With color options it will look great.
It isn’t as original. Most WordPress themes seem the same to me. But it is a very good theme for writers and daily bloggers.
Like it! But I think a pink notepad would be better for me 🙂
Notepad is great minimalist theme. Love it so much! Love the brown colour.
