Have you ever come across a blog post that you enjoyed so much you wanted to easily share it with the readers of your own blog? Sure, you can copy and paste the link and perhaps even a snippet of text with your own comments, but overall it’s not a particularly enjoyable experience. We wanted to change this and make sharing other posts with your readers as easy as posting to your blog.
Today we’re introducing a new like and reblog feature enabled across the whole of WordPress.com. When you’re logged in to WordPress.com and viewing a post you’ll notice a new link in the admin bar at the top of the page. If you really enjoyed the post then you can click the “Like” link to signify this. This will then show the author how many readers liked the post.
Once you’ve liked the post, the link will change to “You like this” and you’ll be presented with some new options via a drop down menu. You can also access this menu at any time in the future by hovering over the “You like this” link in the same way other menu items work.

If you decide that you want to share the post with your own readers, you can click the “Reblog this post” link and you’ll be taken to the new QuickPress tab on the WordPress.com home page. This will auto-fill a snippet of the post text, a link back to the original post, and a link to the blog. If the post includes any images we’ll also automatically add a thumbnail image to the reblog post. Finally you can add your own comments to the reblog post then select which blog you’d like to post it to (if you have more than one).
Even if you are not going to reblog a post you can use the QuickPress tab as a centralized and easy way to post to any of your blogs across WordPress.com.
Posts I Like
Alongside the new QuickPress tab you’ll also notice there is a “Posts I Like” tab. This will aggregate all of the posts that you have liked across any WordPress.com blog.

Instead of this just being a list of post titles, we fetch the whole post content along with any media so that you can use this tab as a place to browse any of the posts you like at a later date.
There’s also a handy search tool that will allow you to easily find that awesome post you want to reblog, but it’s just been a little too long to wade through all the other great posts you’ve liked since. Once you’ve found the post you can reblog it simply by hitting the “Reblog Post” button.
All these features are now live and ready to be used (maybe you’ve already noticed the “Like” link for this post?) so go forth and start liking and reblogging, we hope you find it useful.
I agree with “timethief” and “Jennifer”: an opt-out option is needed, without it the new feature provides tools for breach of copyright, or any other license. And Like function is useless.
Great feature, but please do not integrate with Facebook!
Love, love, love it! What a great idea! BUT, please do not ever integrate with something so evil as Facebook! It would ruin WordPress!
wow!!!
in the last days more interesting features!!!
thanks to growup wordpress!!
Interesting, but I see there is mixed feedback and a cry for an opt out option. I will reserve my judgment on this till I have a better grasp of this feature. I don’t see from the explanation how the author “sees” how many people like a particular post. As always, I appreciate all the hard work from WordPress.com staff.
Peace to you!
This is not working, and I am unable to remove a post from my “Posts I Like” section.
Thank you!
Please contact support and we’ll get this worked out for you.
great this is awesome… like it,… nice rule..
Great feature! Good job.
Really cool!
Cool new feature.
so usefull!!!! thanks
That’s perfect 🙂 Thanks, WordPress!
Great move WP! Love it. Happy for you guys NOT to integrate with facebook, because as much as i love my friends – they don’t all want to read my blog. Keep up the great work chaps.
Please add an opt-out option ASAP. I’m extremely disappointed in WordPress. This is a huge copyright FAILURE.
I love this feature, but I agree with Gabriel. I guess for now I’ll only reblog the things I like.
Excellent!!! So glad to see this option. Makes life much easier. Thanks for letting us be supportive of other bloggers and let the world know the great writers and photographers out there.
This is bad! I really don’t like it. People here falling head over heels on this do not understand the repercussions. I am sure not a lot of thinking has gone into the introduction of this feature.
Reblogging is not about reposting entire blog posts, it’s just a small snippet of text with a link to the original. The repercussions are lots of bloggers linking back to your blog and hopefully lots of new readers loving your content.
Make it even more social…give us Facebook Like Feature please!
Is it just me? I see it on your post here, but nowhere else from my dashboard…
The like link will only show when you’re viewing a single post.
Is there a way to pick what snippet from your post that is displayed on someone else’s “repost”?
Not at this time.
so so great! I love it! 🙂
Awesome! This is gonna be totally useful!
This is a great feature! The goal I would like to help establish for WordPress is to get WordPress embedded every where like Facebook. Facebook is a time waster and Social Disaster. WordPress and the users have lots of great content. How can we make this happen? A nice blog site I’m a huge fan of is Mashable.com. I would like to be able to take some of there blog posts and reblog them!
Wow! This is really cool – and the coolest thing is that I didn’t even know I wanted this feature until you offered it!
WordPress.com is AMAZEBALLS.
I tried to do this 4 different times it does not work.
Please contact support and we’ll work out the problems you are having.
Enthralled multi-facetly and impressed mightily as to the creativity and coding ability of all the humanoids responsible.
Woe…
I really like this function …
I feel what “K. Gregorovius”, “timethief”, and “Jennifer” feel.
Many readers and amateur writers don’t care about copyright issues, but many professional writers do care about that.
Great feature! And I agree, no facebook please.
HAHAHAHA, way to rip off tumblr guys.
At least use the term “note” instead of “like”. Makes a bit more sense.
This is truly an excellent feature. Really appreciate.
Sweet!
Very useful feature. Thank you.
This is good …
Love it! Very helpful idea!!
Well, that explains the “posts I like” I saw earlier. I agree with the comments above – stats would be nice. Thanks!
Doesn’t seem to be working for me. Getting an error: “There was an error when posting, please make sure you have filled in all required fields and have access to post on the selected blog.”
All fields seem to be filled and I only have one blog so…ya
David
Ok I thought this was a great idea until I tried to use it, is any one else having problems re-posting? Still can not re-post please tell me whats up with that.
Please give it another go, we’ve fixed a some minor teething problems for a few people. You should have no problem posting.
Twitter experience and bookmarking in wordpress style. Great job!
Any thought to a “Blogs I like” Widget so that rather than reblog an entire post you can just let readers of your blog go direct to a particular blog entry without having to include the entire blog site on your blog roll?
Super duper awesome feature!!!
Was just thinking about reposting the other day 🙂
THANK YOU WordPress for all the wonderful upgrades, features etc.
wow !!!!!!
good idea 🙂
very nice and user friendly. Thanks!
Nice feature. But, There is should opt-out option.
Love this. What a great new feature. Thank you!
I don’t plan on reblogging, but I will use the Like feature.
Fabulous! Thank you!
thank goodness that I stick to wordpress.com, not to others. why? because the developers keep improving its amazing features. keep ’em coming, you guys rock!
Wow, amazing…
I like this 🙂
Awesome, wordpress. I love it 🙂
what about the quick press??? dont you think that it will be a duplicate content problem????
It’s a great way of collecting all the posts I like at wp.com. But I wish there was a url of a page where I could see likes of an individual blogger – that could be an important resource.
Maybe an idea to make it optional on some sites particularly with copyright laws as such.
Some us have disclaimers prohibiting reblogging of our intellectual work!!
WordPress keeps getting Fab.
If other people save my post in their “Posts I Like” section and I later decide to edit my post, will my updated post be visible in their “Posts I Like” section? Or will the old post remain?
Yes, edits to the post will pass through.
This is just so cool! Interesting feature. Thanks 🙂
this is another great idea implemented by u guys… good job all of u!!
I vote for an option to opt out of this too, if we’re casting votes. Would like to try it and see if it works for me and then make up my own mind.
this is fabulous!!! i will try it out 🙂 thank you
– opt-in or opt-out option is essential (let’s make sure choice is maintained)
– Share/reblog is a much more acceptable option for me than ‘like’ – or separate the two, sometimes sharing is about NOT liking!
I think it is an excellent idea. If people do not reblog this way they will cut and paste which is plagiarism. So we might as well use this feature. Pretty cool and more people will read your blog…
i liked this very much , wordpress is always ahead of other blogs
i love the idea… you guys always come out with the coolest solutions. ❤
I love this new feature… It makes life easier and that is what I demand to a software…
Thanks to the dev team.
Manin.
Put me down as another one who doesn’t want to have my posts shared via Facebook, and while I like the concept, I also dont want the WHOLE post replicated on someone elses site – surely it would be smarter (and use less storage space and bandwidth) to have it put a link in
Like what Twitter does when you Retweet something?
The whole post is not reposted. Just a snippet and a link to the original post.
This remind me of tumblr, thanks for bringing this up. At least we don’t have to copy paste anything….
I don’t just like it, I LOVE IT!!! 😀
I also have a tumblr account – it’s a very different world because so much is reblogged. I like wordpress the way it is and hope this doesn’t change it too much.
Nice feature, nice to see you’re not resting on your laurels and continue to improve a great service. Am a very satisfied user – keep up the good work!
*happy*
I so love this! 😀 I love reblogging a lot! Thank you!
I like the like feature, but I don’t know about reblog…wont that decrease people for coming to our blog?
Just wanted to say really good idea and its good to see that wordpress is keeping up with the times and constantly progressing.
Great work.
Yay! I’m very happy about this…thank you!
Sounds cool, but sorry I don’t get it. I don’t see “like ” anywhere on my blog — and just how does one get to the admin of someone else’s blog to get to “like??” Not much of a blog techie, sorry.
The like link will appear in the grey admin bar at the top of the page when you are viewing a single post. You must be logged in to see it.
wow! sweet! lazy people like me can sure use this! LOL
I, too, really like this feature! It reminds me of how easy it is to post links on facebook (a feature I also use and like a lot). Thanks!
so great and so easy idea
Great idea! Thanks for making this part of WordPress.
Wow! this is gonna be an instant hit, awesome feature. Hats off to the WordPress developers for constantly adding new features and maintaining the pace.
Agree that this is a great idea – hopefully it will stop people republishing entire blog posts without permission and without credit (as has happened to me and doubtless other people too), although I guess if people are low enough to do that they will do it anyway :S I agree with others that there should be an opt out option.
Nice feature… thanks for keeping it fresh!
awesome feature
oh i like this!
i like very much tthat featured i love it!!!
Muchisimas Gracias
I understand the reservations, but think this could be cool. I see were I can tell how many people (in the aggregate) liked my post, but is there any way to tell how many people (and/or who) actually reblogged it? I would be interested to read the the comments/introduction to their re-blog.
If someone reblogs your post then it will leave a trackback if you have them enabled for the post.
You guys are great! I love WordPress – thanks for doing what you do, so we can have fun with it.
Great feature, just don’t integrate or mess with Facebook in any way and if you do – just make it so that whatever you bring into WP with Facebook that it can be disabled.
WOW, Awesome, love it!
love it. thanks!!
Cool!
Wow.. this new option seems pretty groovy.. a little intimidating.. but I’m excited to see where it takes me! I love the ever evolving WordPress progress!! Keep it up!! xoxo
I don’t see why “privatize your posts” was given as the answer to a question above about opting-out from allowing reblogging. Maybe we just want to encourage more thoughtful feedback and content creation, instead of simply being satisfied with two button clicks. (See whole issue about favouriting vs. commenting on deviantART.)
That said, I do like this feature (I also use Tumblr), but just wanted to point out an alternative point of view.
Really cool feature, Thanks people 😉
How can you see if a post has been re-blogged?
You will receive a trackback on your post if you have them enabled.
I like this feature!!! 🙂
Blogging with WordPress is my over all winner for a second and virtual life.
Thank you for making our days.
