For those of you who have been dreaming of an easier way for your readers to share your posts on Twitter, that day has come. We’re pleased to announce that we’ve added an official Tweet Button as an option for all WordPress.com blogs.

How it works: When one of your readers hits the Tweet Button, they will be shown a popup that includes a shortened link to your post. Readers can add in a quick message, and then hit “Tweet” to send the post to their Twitter feed as a tweet — all without leaving your blog.
Additionally, each time a reader tweets your post, you’ll know it: The tool keeps a live tally of tweets, so you’re never in the dark about how your blog posts are performing in the Twittersphere.
To enable the button on your blog please visit the “Appearance > Extras” menu and select the “Show a Twitter Tweet Button on my posts” option.
Update:
We have moved the Twitter Tweet button into Settings > Sharing. You can read more about this move here.
Thank you!
Brill. Love it. But I would like to see the “Tweet” button at the top of posts instead of the bottom someday. A lot of people won’t read “below the fold”. Thanks WP. ❤
I don’t have an extras section in my appearance menu.

August 12th, 2010 at 4:45 pm If you go to your blog dashboard you’ll see the “Appearance” menu on the left hand side. Under this menu is the “Extras” menu where you’ll find the setting.
I only have the 4 sub headings: themes widgets menus editor
Please contact support and we’ll get this sorted for you. Thanks.
Nice! Way 2 go!
Jim
Thanks for your hard work! I love the new button. 🙂
That’s fabulous! I LOVE WordPress! You all really do a tremendous, stupendous, extraordinary job of always keeping things fresh and up to date. Thanks for all you do! Do you think there will be a Facebook button soon, too?
jane
I find it interesting that within a few days of Twitter launching this service, you developed it for WP.com. But Facebook had their Like button out for long and you would not implement it here. I wonder why there is a bias between the two company providing similar set of feature? Isn’t Twitter’s button is as same as Facebook’s Like?
This is just a philosophical question, or rather, constructive criticism.
Thanks.
Watch this space.
Just another great WordPress extra. Thanks.
could you put it on the home page as well instead of just with individual posts?
This is awesome! I’ve been waiting for this feature for ages! Please can you also add the option to have it show on my posts on my home page too, as I have all my recent posts on my home page which always displays the full post, so to be able to have the tweet button on the home page would be amazing! Makes it easier for the readers! Great work guys 🙂
This is terrific! It definitely has been a dream of mine. Gosh, I thought you were all away dreaming up new fantastic ideas for us but it seems you are doing that and implementing great stuff at the same time. Thanks.
I enabled this on my blog, but it’s not showing up on my past posts. (I haven’t written any new ones since enabling). Any suggestions?
I can see it on your post here:

Thanks Andy. This is cool news. I appreciate it.
Finally! I really do appreciate this new feature. If you just could add facebook (share/like) as well and I’m the happiest blogger ever 😉
WordPress team is the BEST! Thank you so much!
An innovative convenience
Wow, perfect timing. I was just searching for this feature yesterday but concluded my search with “no can do on wordpress.com” What a difference a day makes. Thank you!
I can’t get it to work, I’ve followed the directions: appearances>extras, check the tweet button box, I even rebooted but the button is still not appearing. I would have emailed support, but it’s closed and the message says to leave a comment as staff is checking in now and then.
please help.
Per my previous post, I now realize that you actually have to click on a post title to view the post in order for the button to show up. Therefore, anyone reading from your home page doesn’t see it. I love the fact that you’ve added this, but it would be better if it would come up when viewing posts from home pages, since many people do just that. Thanks!

Most definitely
For self-hosted WP bloggers, I just added the new Tweet button to my Simpler Twitter Connect plugin suite as well:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simple-twitter-connect/
Love this addition even though nobody will use it 🙂
Sounds great. But it doesnt work when I tried it!
just figured it out thanks to a comment. it shows up when someone clicks on a post… I agree that it would be great to have the tweet button show up on the home page as well.
Thanks so much 🙂
Beautiful!!!
Now it’s easy!
The next it’ Facebook??? 😀
tanks an bye bye!
¡Thank you! ¡Wordpress es lo máximo!
would be great if it was on the bottom of all posts on the home page and not just on individual posts. I thought it was not working till I realised it only works when you are actually in the post itself and not just viewing on the homopage
thank you wordpress, totally fabulous
The tweet button shows a count.
Great ADDITION!
Now all we need is a like button for facebook!
Good Work! WP.com Team!!! Congratulations!
WordPress are on a roll! Yey! Keep it all coming our way you guys!
Thanks a lot!! finally no need for me to attach the code everytime.
So what do we have in store next for the publicity of our posts?
Facebook Like? Yahoo Buzz? Digg?
If you come up with them it would be real helpful… 🙂
Very cool! Any chance of making it visible under each post when someone is on the index page of your blog rather than just when someone is viewing a specific post?
Beggars can’t be choosers, so I’m happy regardless, just noticed that was the only way it showed up.
THX!! Any chance for an option to show it on the frontpage under each post?
Sorry for a delayed reply – this has been implemented. You can add the buttons to index pages now – please go to Sharing options page and find “Show sharing buttons on” drop-down menu.
Love it! This is fantastic!
I don’t do Twitter but since so many folks do — this is great for them.
Geez. This is great! Every little bit helps. Still trying to figure this tweet stuff out so appreciate the help!
Not only do I appreciate the new feature, I appreciate that you allow us users to choose whether to turn it on. It seems like a lot of web services nowadays change default settings without notice. Thanks for keepin’ it real.
I like this, but when is the FB button coming? thx
thanks so much. i don’t have a twitter account, but some of my readers have repeatedly said they wish there was a tweet button.
waiting for facebook button ~
Super like! I hope you got something for Facebook too! 🙂
The new button is just great. Well done
Any chance of buttons for other social network sites? Like Reddit? (This is great though–perfect)
waiting 4 an fb like button
oh awesome. rock on you guys 😀
like this! been waiting long for this. thks!
Great! Now all we need is a Facebook button, please 🙂
Thank you! Now with the click of a button I can tweet each post without having to cut and paste titles and shortened urls. And friends can tweet their favorite articles, which they’ve started to do now. You guys are amazing!
It’s about time!
Hell yea!!!!!!!
awesome! i like it, after ‘like this’ tool, tweet tool now! 😀
I wish the button was a bit bigger, I like how the tweetmeme button is so big… I think I’ll stay with the shortcode for now.
This is great, Oulipo is great too. Am waiting the Facebook share button… not the like one…
Yay!! This is fantastic!! Thank you 😀
the button is a good one, but i have setup all my posts with tweetmeme 🙂
I’ve already added it! When will Stumble,Digg and Reddit buttons be added? I know there’s other ways to get it on my site, but I like this mode better…puts it all in one nifty and consumer friendly place!
Aha! I love this! I don’t “tweet” but I know a lot of people that may find this useful. Now there’s only one more “button” I would like to have…. 😀
SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a nice addition (and I’ve activated it on my blog), but I noticed that in Twenty Ten, which is the theme I’m using, it appears above the author description, while the “like” button appears below it. I think that it would fit in a bit better aesthetically if they were both in the same location relative to the post.
I just noticed that it’s only appearing on the actual post’s site, not the homepage of the blog where all the posts are.
Ahh… I see a few people have already mentioned this quirk.
Thanks a ton. There’s Like, there’s tweet. Now I guess we can soon have a Facebook like too! WordPress rocks 😉
You guys are awesome, really. Thanks a lot for this, removes the hassle of manually adding the TweetMeme code at the end of every post (because sometimes I forget).
Thank you so much for adding this feature on WordPress.com blogs. We really appreciate it.
I wanna ask something. why it used t.co as url shortener instead of wp.me ?
t.co
is a special url shortener that twitter sometimes uses itself overriding what might have be used by default. You can learn more about it here: http://t.co/
Great..! Much awaited 🙂 Appreciate a Facebook/Google buzz like button too.. as Buzz already gained a big market share in Indian subcontinent.
god bless wordpress
Nice. What about one for FB, especially the like button?
Thanks I dont see it…but have installed it.☞
great. keep up the good work
I LOVE IT. Thank you!!! : )
lovee it 🙂
OK THANKS A LOT
It looks nice! 😀
Congratulations!
Some days ago I wanted them so I had to put html code on each post!
Anyway, what I see is that we only see the button when we visit a post. So if we visit just the blog (http://thename ichoseformyprettyblog.wordpress.com) then the button does not appear on the posts! (my old fashion html code always appears however :-))
I just wish that all the wordpress.com blogs also had a widget not to tweet a post but to tweet the blog! Just a tweet that said something like “I just have visited this wonderful blog: http://wwhattever.wordpress.com)
I am very happy with button. Congratulations, again!
I hope this finds you well… I have added the button as per the instructions but it does not show up on my blog. Any suggestions? Anybody else have this issue?
Love and Light,
Sender
I see the button on your posts, it only appears on single post pages.
love this so much…..
sweeeeettttt!
Thanks a lot, Andy. Great job!
Is there a possibility to place the Tweet button next to the heading of the post on the main page? If the readers like the post, why do they have to do an extra click to go to the post page to tweet it?
We’ll introduce more options soon.
I cant wit to use the new button 🙂
Fabulous.
Count me in as another blogger who wants to see the twitter button on the main page, not just individual posts. Also, please give us a button for Face Book.
Thanks for the constant tools for better blogging.
Kathleen
Thanks Andy. Just love wordpress more and more.
Excellent – added it immediately. Now all I need is a similar button for Facebook. Pretty please… 😉
