Oh the weather outside is frightful,
but this blog is sooo delightful
Until the internet gets slow,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
That’s right, it’s that special time of year where you can show off your holiday cheer with a little special blog flair — falling snow. To get it started:
- Go to your dashboard.
- Navigate to Settings » General.
- Check the box next to “Show falling snow on this blog.”
- Roast some chestnuts.
Even Texas boys like me who only saw snow a handful of times growing up can enjoy it all month long, until we turn it off on January 4th.
If you are a terrible Grinch or if the snow just slows down your computer or confuses your cat, you can go to your personal settings page and hide the snow everywhere you go.
Thank you for bringing the snow back. I was wondering when it would appear and last night it was suddenly snowing on my blog. I didn’t even have to change the settings because they have probably stayed saved like this since last year. Now I can start counting the days until the holidays 🙂 .
Sweet! Turned it on for my blog too. Hey, are there falling hearts, etc., for other holidays? That would be cool too!
Just snow for now. 🙂
I am not seeing the snow on my blog 😦 the box is checked…..?
OOps nevermind it’s all good and I love it! Thanks WP
Thanks so much for that tip. 🙂
love it!!! so cute!!!!
THANKS THANKS THANKS
I hope you guys are considering to create new themes for this holiday.
We’re always considering creating new themes!
Oh! Baby it’s cold outside. +D
You’re the best! You have no idea at all how much I look forward to the snow year round, and… woohoo… it’s finally here again!!!
Thanks ever so much ’cause everyone… and I do mean everyone… loves, loves, loves it!!!
I always love this one. hhhee. thanks a lot
Owh thank you for bring me back the snow fall 🙂
Oh my goodness, this is soooo amazing!!!!
Done. I can’t wait to see how it looks!!!!!!!!
Thank you wordpress!!!
It’s awesome. In Delhi I’ve never seen snow but in my blog its looking just another world.
Thank you, WordPress! I love having “snow” on my blog in December. But can you add a “prevent snow” link to this post (as you did last year) for readers whose computers may slow down and are not members of WordPress? Last year I reposted the link in a widget on my snowy blog.
The prevent/allow snow links in last year’s snow post should still work: https://wordpress.com/blog/2010/12/01/snow-around-the-world/
Yes, welcome back “WInter Season” , although in Indonesia there is no snow 🙂
I realy miss the snow but unfortunately I never feel it in my country Indonesia…:(
When I can feel it ….???
Very cool man. Liked it.
thank u 🙂 i tried and it’s very nice
Very nice, thank you. (Actually I don’t like the animated things in the blogs usually… but this is really little and cute and… maybe I’m getting old). Bye.
I’m not in the least “Grinchy” but thanks for the link to turn the snow off; nice idea but very distracting.
Thanks for giving me the snow… can you point me in direction of the roasted chestnuts…
It’s soooo cute. Thank you! 🙂
Hi! – I’m a great fan of WordPress, but the falling snow effect has to be one of the most insane things I’ve ever seen! It had me reaching for my Anglo Saxon dictionary. Thank god we can turn it off!!! FATman
I love it!
Now we just need to add the fireplace.
Like past year… Thanks !
Love the snow. Does anyone know how to play music on wordpress so we can hear “let it snow” without showing a video?
I love the annual blog snow! I feel like some Andy Williams Christmas tunes should play along with it. 😉
So cute! ❤ Thank you!
Nice post. What of us in tropical countries where there is no snow, except for Harmattan which blows cold wind and hazy all day long skies…anyway, it’s really nice here too…Compliments of the season!
Thank you Matt, I’m a new blogger here… This winter will be my first without snow so this feature is cute 🙂
Love what we can do with video.
Love it … BUT our major Tahoe snow comes after Jan 4th …
Cool feature. Happy Holidays 🙂
brill

I just turned this feature today..!! really nice fx…!! thanks.. 😀
Enjoy the snowflakes!!
Too sweet 😉
So sometimes we just have to laugh at ourselves, right? So, I have this rare eye disease in both eyes that has does some goofy things over the years and when I first turned on my computer, I thought my eyes had gone wacky again! It took me about half an hour, switching between browsers and enlisting my teens help (no joke) before I learned about this “snow falling” and could appreciate it for what it was 🙂 Obviously, I’m a newbie and now I think it’s cool, so thank you! And I hope you’re all laughing WITH me ~ Happy Holidays!
How fantastic! Hopefully it’s not the only snow I’ll get to see this year!
This is my first winter on WordPress and it is kinda cute. Yet I have not turned the snow on, why? I somehow find the little dots don’t resemble snow that clearly. Still I love the fact that you do offer something funny like this!
If I never see snow again it would be too soon…we don’t get it often in these parts but this year, after flooding and earthquales the snow was unwelcome (albeit nice for the kids who had never seen it)…and as we approach summer for Christmas, well BBQs at the beach is all we look forward to!
BBQs are pretty darn good too. 🙂
It is forecast to snow in the UK soon too….
Thank you all for bringing snow to my Strange Little Town. I love how the snow falls towards the mouse when it’s sitting on the page.
Never mind confusing cats, it entertains husbands for hours! 😉
Hah.
Love your work.
Thank you for the snow!
Love the snow feature, thank you much!
A big thumbs up from me (and it’s hot down here in Australia!). How about some mini flying shrimp for the BBQ for next year’s festive season?
I might actually think about flying shrimp whenever I see your blog now… 🙂
I love it… Thank you! 🙂
Wow! This is so cool! I’m spreading the Xmas cheer. ;D
Love it… thanks so much for this, Matt

The holidays are almost upon us. Many of us will be spending time with family. Some of us look forward to that and others will be spending alone. Think about your family life for a moment. Your family is your life. Strengthen your harmony between your family 🙂
I’m from Indonesia. So, I cannot see the snow. 😦
Matt – the snow really is delightful but you forget there are those of us in the Southern Hemisphere (I’m in Sydney) for whom Winter represents sweltering hot sunny days with cold beers and prawns awaiting a barbecued end. What about a theme for that?!
Prawns on the BBQ might be equally good as snow on a blog. Enjoy the sunshine. 🙂
I just let my blog snow…Thanks for telling it!
🙂
This is an amazing idea 🙂
Great job!!
Fantastic!
Love your falling snow! To have my teenage son comment on it. It’s a hit!
No snow at all in Portugal, but I could use some … just for a change ….
Loved the spirit.
Thank you for the snow again this year. I look forward to it every year.
This is totally surreal AND nuts…. I’ve moved from UK to Indonesia. (A) Christmas is not celebrated, and (B) theres no hope of snow SO this fun bit of code has made my day……..Thank You!!
I activated the snow suff yesterday and him upstairs activated the real thing at ther same time around these parts!
Reblogged this on dawnotdown.
This is adorable. Thanks.
It’s a bit weird to see snow falling in the galaxy, but I did it anyway : D Thank you! It looks great!
Wow–that falling snow is SO annoying! Gotta go change it…
Very novel, screen snow, I like it 🙂 Down here in Oz it is summer, so can we have the bushfire effect option? Or maybe flies randomly landing on the screen, aaahh, Christmas in Australia 🙂
Hey Matt – that’s cool – thanks
I am new to this – it’s pretty cool

I simply love this song. I may be in my teen years but I love classical music. I especially love Frank Sinatra. The guy is a musical legend/
I find on my browser that the falling snow causes a scroll bar to flicker on and off at the bottom of the screen, which is very distracting and quite annoying so I have been leaving blogs with falling snow as soon as the flickering starts 😦
It seems to relate to how much magnification I am using in Firefox but I don’t want to be changing it from my ideal setting to something else all the time.
OMG! This is a very old song but just right for the year end celebrations 🙂 Thank you for the snow.
It did snow in Houston 2 years ago. I heard Dallas had one this week. Perhaps I’ll get lucky and it’ll snow again this Christmas but for now, I’ll try this feature. Thanks….
Wow! Its rather so cool. Great job!
if you want snow all year round, (and have google chrome) go into the webstore and download snow!!! YAAAAY!!
Beautiful snow and it doesn’t make me feel cold!!:) * Christmas is coming tooo*
Gotta love that snow! Sooooo cool.
Thanks Matt.. I love snow… Merry Christmas!!! More power…
What a fun thing! Thanks!
So Christmasy!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYBODY.
Really cool ! Subtle but significant
i love this feature — and really like how it accents my blog! thank you.
and as others have commented, yes, woud be cool to have such offerings fitting for every holiday 🙂
thanks again!
Thank you very much!
Verry nice song !
From a boy who lives in a country with no snow, in here, I am now experiencing it! Oooh, I am loving the snow app! :))
Brrrrr…..
I had just posted a pic of a pine tree in the frost. the snow falling is the perfect touch.!
love it.
Snow never had fall in my region but now I’m feeling it. It not only make our blog looks better but also some sort of feeling of frosts.
I wish this feature to last for longer time atleast till 30th January.
Mine started automatically!
