Once in a while, it’s important to stop, catch your breath, and look at your accomplishments before you move on to the next thing — to put a stake in the ground that says, “I made it this far!”
Today, we’re rolling out a couple of notifications to help you celebrate your blog activity milestones. From now on, whenever you hit a milestone for how many followers your blog has (5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and beyond), you’ll get a badge:
We also created badges to celebrate when you receive lots of likes from visitors:
In addition to celebrating your achievements, we wanted to notify you when you’ve had a particularly good day for receiving likes or new followers. From now on, we’ll let you know of your best days for such activity:
Keep in mind that we’ve only started counting your best days this March.
We all blog for different reasons. Some might chronicle their travel adventures, others might detail their culinary undertakings. If you find a post or a blog you enjoyed, like it or follow the blog — your action might send them a badge and make them smile. It’s easy to find great new blogs to follow using the Reader.

Motivation and encouragement through a badge …didn’t I get this in elementary school?
Very cool 🙂 Something to look forward to….

I have always liked getting stickers for my work! I can’t wait till tomorrow to see if there’s a surprise!! ;D
wow!
OMG I.love.this. Yay WP! Congratulations on another milestone in WP’s excellent gadgets! This is perfect; just what I needed haha.
Thanks WP for letting me know how my followers and visitors interact across my blog. Received a couple of milestones today. My followers and visitors are the best. 🙂 This tool is another encouragement for me to keep blogging. It’s great to have a snapshot of all the “Likes” I’m getting.
Very sweet addition! Thank you WordPress staff! You are simply charming!
just wonderful. 🙂

Great idea! Thanks for your amazing on-going improvements! That reminds me of childhood. When I did a good thing my teacher reward us with a star, a circle, something sweet. Great idea. Gabriela
Nice and like! 😉
BRGD from Anee
Neat!
Bravo – good action
This could be a twisted thing… I’d feel great if I received a badge, but inadequate that I didn’t! LOL I really love how hard you guys work to make WordPress such a great place to be though, and I’m proud to have my fledgling blog here 🙂
Thank you wordpress.. you make a fun activity even more rewarding!
Nice new feature. I hope most agree.
Will we be calling it WPout?
Thats a brilliant idea :):)
seriously, you get badges for having followers and likes etc? I am just enjoying blogging. I don’t need rewarded for how many followers I have because at this point in time, I think I only have two, and those two are my daughters.
Wow – Scotty2269, people can’t have opinions different from yours? Joen – thanks for your answer but I don’t want to have to turn off my “likes” just to not get badges I didn’t ask for and don’t want. I like to know when people like what I’ve written, but I don’t need it tallied and reported back to me. I can keep count if I want. Perhaps there’s a blog site out there more in tune with what I want out of a blog.
Great!
Great incentive – some of them seem a long way off!
Thank you for celebrating the milestones! It’s a fun way to encourage bloggers to give the best!
I want to thank highly the wonderful experience I’ve had since I started my blog.
WordPress encourages us and supports us to be better in writing and designing our blog.
All the tools at our disposal makes our experience more enjoyable.
Thank you very much!
A star for you all ★
whens that gonna come on my blog
Like Girl Scouts, but without the cookies.
Love the idea. Always been a sucker for awards and love the affirmation of my work. For those days when i don’t feel like writing it will certainly be incentive to keep after it.
I love your post.
as a new blogger on WordPress, I really need this motivation!!!
Great new features! That will make it much easier to keep track of all these things.

Guys, keep it up. I am brand new here, and you have made blogging so easy for this non techie. THANKS!
GREAT, VERY GOOD!
Great feature. Recently moved to wordpress from posterous and I’m glad I made the change. WordPress seems a much nicer environment for writing my blog and discovering others. Thanks
Thanks for the information to the people that have blogs. I myself have been bloging for a year now and find it to be interesting and for those who are starting out don’t give up. I have tried and tested ever plugin some work and some don’t I browse web for information that would help those in the topics there
looking for There have been blogs that I’d visit that had very little on them but still had good ideas. I have been following you’re blog and you have been putting out good information. I do believe that communicating with others is the best teacher. For now I will have to say keep up the good work
“Thanks For All”
Awesome! 😀 It’s a nice encouragement.

I like this…Thanks!
You wordpress people are SO friggin’ awesome! I love these badges ……….thank you
There is a reason why I chose wordpress.com has my blog site. Thank you.
Be encouraged!
And will these badges be able to be HIDDEN if we do not strive for recognition? …khrys…
These badges are shown only to you, the author, and no-one else.
Then , I like them… thanks…*khrys…
Thank you. Motivating.
I`m new at blogging and already loving it!
Those badges make you feel “how cool are you”. But I think I still like the stat for now.
Just got my little “award” for reaching 10 followers today! Soooo cooool! Thank you!
These are awesome. Thanks so much 🙂
thanx again, fantastic.

Excellent feature!
How about some ‘anti-stars’, for example: number of days with no visits, complete weeks without a view etc? It would give me something to celebrate on my spectacularly unpopular blog :-)….
Just kidding (with the second bit that is, the ‘excellent feature’ stands…)
This is so great. We all need a little encouragement now and then. Earning badges will certainly bring out my competitive side though!
Nifty!!! Thanks!
What an awesome idea. I got a taste of it yesterday and loved it. TY! 🙂
Thanks for this, WP!
May we copy/paste the badge onto our site, if we want?
Sure.
Hay, I got a 500th like badge. Cool!!! I hope it’s not tacky to post this. Thanks for the badge. It is a good motivator. I post everyday, a commitment I try to keep. Take care.
Great new features – keep ’em coming!
very nice feature……….
Appears to be a nice deal… a little positive encouragement never hurt anyone. (I’m just starting out so I don’t know what all to look forward to yet. I do know it will be rewarding for me – and hopefully for those that may choose to follow us. Thanks!
A lot of blogger will get a pat on the back for being awesome which they already know they are. On the other hand, insignificant bloggers like me will feel even worse about themselves for not being able to reach any milestones. Why do we always have to compete for attention, no matter what we do?
I like the idea showing a badge for the amount of hits to the site as well… 😉
these badges and such shouldn’t mean anything to us, nor should stats, but for some reason it just keeps us going, gives us a boost of momentum to write again… Foursquare does this and I love it. It’s so meaningless you have to love it 🙂
Great to have it! Keeps us inspired to go on.
veyr useful feature to everyone

I’m glad I have the opprotunity to stop by and say Hat Off to You! Looking forward to finding the new followers feature.
Thank you, that’s very kind! We’re glad you like notifications.
You should see my big Smile!

Absolutely Kool!
I think it’s good encouragement for our continuity and continued recognition for our written accomplishments.
Keep it comin.’

Microsoft started achievments on XBOX 360 almost six years ago – now it is everywhere!
Great addition, WordPress!
So far every day has been my best day! What an awesome feel-good feature 🙂
love it
Awesome!
Grateful for this. It was a pick-me-up for me today when I saw I had 10 Likes on blog! I had no idea. It made me smile. 🙂

All these small improvements that you, WordPress, makes, are the great improvements. 🙂
I am a new blogger. would someone tell me how this works please?
When you blog, you receive notifications on your doings around WordPress.com. These show up in the little number button in the top right corner, in your toolbar. Once in a while, you’ll receive enough likes or followers to earn a badge. It’ll show up there, among other notifications.
thank Joen
I do get the likes but no badges for clicks or reads etc. is there something i need to do in the setting?
There are no settings and nothing to do, just follow and like milestone badges when more than 5 people follow you, or more than 5 people like your posts. If you have a lot of activity, the badge notifications might already have dropped off the notification menu.
ohh okay. I do have more than 5 people following.. but dont get what the milestone badge is..
sorry for the trouble..
love this big time! i’m 2 months into blogging and since my followers are still in the single digits, it’s the love of my content and those 5 post goal meters that i still keep the blogging fires burning. these new features should keep me going for a while! 😀
I just got my 50th follower, but I haven’t seen any of these ‘milestones’ show up on my page. What am I missing here?
Thanks for the incentives. 🙂
You’re not missing anything. For now, these badges are for your eyes only, simply little motivational badges.
Thanks Joen! I appreciate the response. Apparently there’s a little streak of curiosity in me…. 😉
