Once in a while, it’s important to stop, catch your breath, and look at your accomplishments before you move on to the next thing — to put a stake in the ground that says, “I made it this far!”
Today, we’re rolling out a couple of notifications to help you celebrate your blog activity milestones. From now on, whenever you hit a milestone for how many followers your blog has (5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and beyond), you’ll get a badge:
We also created badges to celebrate when you receive lots of likes from visitors:
In addition to celebrating your achievements, we wanted to notify you when you’ve had a particularly good day for receiving likes or new followers. From now on, we’ll let you know of your best days for such activity:
Keep in mind that we’ve only started counting your best days this March.
We all blog for different reasons. Some might chronicle their travel adventures, others might detail their culinary undertakings. If you find a post or a blog you enjoyed, like it or follow the blog — your action might send them a badge and make them smile. It’s easy to find great new blogs to follow using the Reader.

Congratulations to all the bloggers out there! Including myself! Good job! 😀
Ohhhh that’s what that is! Love it, keeps me motivated. xo
I love it! It makes my heart skip a beat when I see one of those badges! 😀
haha.. I just got my 5th-like badge!
This sounds very interesting. I love recognition (as all humans do). Will our wee noddy badges automatically save to our sites?
CBB
At this point in time, the badges are shown only in your notification stream, and only to you. If people like these badges, we’ll look in to giving you an option to show your badges on your site to others.
a very good concept by WP…
once in a while we need motivation so that we keep on writing with enthusiasm…
Wordpress is getting better day by day…
Thanks for this new feature…!!
NICE!
After MILESTONE.. Launch AWARDS too which can be shown on the page. Provide it as some widget. And they will be official wordpress awards too that will be the most awe-sum part of blogging experiences ever…
Holy cow!
Maybe if some of these poo-poo’ers had received more credit in their lives they would not be so negative.
Any form of recognition is so important in these days of, “Me First!” I think it is a great new options and as a newbie look forward to get my Koodos! 🙂 I already received my badge for my first 5! Thanks.
Excellent,looking forward to blogging.
Yup, I get my 50 followers badge tonight.
These notifications are absolutely cool stuff. That’s why I love WordPress and everybody who works in it. Thanks a lot! 🙂
I like it bagde..Good
I got a little excited when I received a notification today presenting me with my first badge. Go to project-bin.com and follow me so I can get my next one.
It doesn’t work, though.
Every day I get a message reminding me that today was my OMG BEST DAY FOR LIKES EVAR!!! Except it’s never true. I also get it on days where I have only 1 or 2 likes, and I know that wasn’t OMG MY BEST DAY EVAR.
I don’t like it. This is supposed to give us all warm fuzzy feelings, but I feel like I’m being nagged every day about something that didn’t even happen.
Well that’s annoying. I’ve forwarded your comment to the engineer that built those notes, we’ll look in to it. Thanks for reporting!
Well that was a pretty annoying bug! Sorry about that, and thanks for telling us about it. It should be fixed now. You current most likes in one day is 10. So you shouldn’t see another message until you get 11 in one day.
“OMG YOUR BEST DAY FOR LIKES EVAR” was actually the original text of the notification when we were developing it. 🙂
Seriously? 😀
Thanks for fixing it.
Wonderful idea! We writers love to see our efforts noticed!
What is the thing that pops up on the left as soon as I publish a new post telling me how many posts I’ve had and giving me “goals”? That was never there before. How do I turn that off?
Batty at Bat Girl keep blogging on need to keep motivated.
Yes. I totally agree with John Glasgow. Its a good motivator to keep us gowing!.
Really nice features. I do wish my blog was interesting enough to follow though
This is great! Thanks for the new feature! 🙂
As always, thanks for making WordPress more and more awesome all the time! FYI, I think y’all are so cool I’ll be doing a guest-post on WordPress’ awesomeness on 4/25 at Nathan Rudy’s blog/website (I’m thinking he’s a wordpresser too :)). Looking forward to continued blogging with the best!
Cool 🙂
Questions: this seems to have drastically changed the stats page. I lost almost 30 followers! It used to say 49 WP followers, and 81 total followers. Now it lists only 49 and the total followers has disappeared! Please tell me why?
Also, will these badges turn up right on my blog page (I know, invisible to everyone else however I do not want to look at them) or merely on the stats page, which I’m fine with?
Hi Amelie,
You’re correct, we’ve recently redesigned the Totals, Followers & Shares panel, though that change had nothing to do with these badges.
We redesigned that panel for clarity and to make it more easily scannable. Now the panel lists a) number of followers your blog has, b) number of people that subscribe to comments to individual posts (people who checked the little “Notify me of follow-up comments via email”) checkbox, c) and d) any Twitter or Facebook followers you might have through Publicize. The previous panel would show these same numbers, however it would also show a “followers” in bold text that simply counted all these different followers together in one number. We removed the total followers because it’s actually a bit misleading.
Feel free to contact support if you have further questions.
Oh it looks like Joen A said it only appears on notifications page. That’s totally fine with me. Just would like to know where my 81 followers went to.
I love this! Awesome addition. Thank you!
Martin. More grease to your elbows!
I like it. And people who do not like it; just ignore it, what’s the big deal?
This is great AND kind of silly at the same time (looks like something parodying a Zynga game)
makes sense 🙂

great idea!it encourages us to blog more! 🙂
enough people don’t do this! great article!
Yay! I have a milestone badge thingy majigy!!!!! WordPress are really making me feel welcome. The milestone counter thing is useful and I like it. It makes me feel nice inside to know I have so many likes or views!!! 🙂
Great feature! I love it!
I like this. I have 12 or so followers right now, which is lovely because I usually have bugger all to say.
