Today is an exciting day! A new version of WordPress for iOS was just pushed live, and it’s been dubbed the “biggest update ever”. It features a completely re-imagined interface for both iPhone and iPad that takes mobile blogging to the next level. It’s most noticeable on the iPad: a sliding panels interface enables you to quickly get to any part of the app and rediscover your content.
New Interface
As soon as you download the app you’re greeted by a new welcome screen that guides you while adding your blog(s) to the app. Once authenticated you’re taken right to the Reader, where you can catch up on the blogs you follow, find topics you like, and now use a friend finder to discover your friends’ blogs on WordPress.com.
On the iPhone you’ll see a list icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Tap or swipe to open the sidebar, revealing all your blog’s content, as well as the ability to upload a quick Photo and access your Settings.
On the iPad the sidebar is right there, the first panel to the left. As you tap items in the list they’ll open in panels allowing you to drill deeper into the app.
In the latest update of WordPress for iOS you can now view your full WordPress.com Stats right from within the app. This means more details, more control, and much better use of screen space. For the iPad the panel expands to the size of two panels for better viewing.
Reader and Quick Photo for iPad
The big, beautiful screen on the iPad is a perfect fit for the WordPress.com Reader. You can now keep up with blogs you follow, browse topics that interest you, and check out the latest Freshly Pressed posts. The panels interface makes it easy to navigate around and even visit the full site right from the app.
The “Quick Photo” function is one of the most popular iPhone features, and now we are bringing it to the iPad as well. Use your iPad’s built in camera to take a photo or select one from library. It all works as seamlessly and as fast as it does for the iPhone.
Friend Finder
Did you know you could use your accounts on other social networks to find friends blogging on WordPress.com? In the latest update of WordPress for iOS you can do this right from the app – finding your friends on Twitter, Facebook is only a tap away. You can also securely search your device’s address book to find your friends’ blogs.
Post Formats
Post Formats are an important part of many themes these days and it was time for WordPress for iOS to get the ability as well. By using post formats you effectively choose how your post will look once published (if your theme supports them).
More Enhancements, Bugfixes, and Tweaks
- New Post Preview for iPad: When viewing a post on the iPad, you’ll now get a nice preview of the post including formatting and images.
- All-Around Landscape Support: Nearly all areas of the app support landscape orientation now, including all of the tabs in the post editor. (You’ll notice this on the iPhone and the iPod Touch.)
- Easy Site and Dashboard Access: A no-brainer. We added buttons in the Sidebar to view your site as well as a Dashboard link so you can access your full WordPress dashboard (“/wp-admin”) right from within the app. Thanks to this you can now easily update your theme, manage your users, access your tools, and more.
In total over 180 enhancements and bug fixes made it into version 3.1 of WordPress for iOS.

My stats are no longer viewable from my iphone. Anyone else having this problem?
I love the new layout! I’m reading much more of everyone’s blogs that I follow within this new layout. WordPress rocks!!
I am loving the new update. Thanks!
Brilliant as ever it works an absolute treat.
Awesome!
Hey, loved this i really want this but the only problem right now is that i have an ipod touch but it’s first gen that is having ios 3.1.3 i can’t just get it on my ipod working.. any solution for it ???
I can’t buy any new idevice so anything else from that will be appreciated …
Sorry, the app requires iOS 4.
Yeah that’s the only thing i don’t like.
Love it.
Absolutely love this app!
This is really embarrassing. Look at the app’s reviews, a whole lot of people have trouble accessing their stats. They’ve (myself included) attempted just about everything and nothig happens. Same error. It’s obviously not working why can’t get go back to the previous version? It was working, maybe was not a fancy interface but it worked.
Thanks for the update
Why i can’t download? Who can help me?
Can you explain in more detail the troubles you are having downloading the app?
Reblogged this on navaneethkotian.
Nice, now my iOS friends won’t have excuses for not posting on WP blog. *evil*
Now its worth installing WordPress on iPhone.
Way to Go.
Thanks for the update 🙂
Im digging the update. The app revamp is a great start definitely allows many features although I’ve had some crashes as well as its easy to get lost without knowing how to get back. Itd be great if the menu icon could be apparent on all pages. So after I’m done browsing I can easily go back to my blog to post/review/etc.
Also some of the links within freshly pressed are more difficult to select. Not sure if this is due to the iPhone. Color schemes could also add more differentiation between toolbars, etc. too much grey makes it difficult to differentiate
Now this app works like it should on the iPAD. Thanks for updating it to make it more user friendly and useful.
The Reader upgrade is the bestest part. This truly is the update of all the updates. 😀 You guys are brilliant!
I would like to confirm that the problem with Stats section is fixed in the latest update of the WordPress for iOS app.
Great job, guys. Looks beautiful!
I have kept away from latest gadgets for the moment.
Can I ask how you managed to get over 8 million followers? My chin hit the floor when I saw the number of followers this blog has.
Cool – love it!
love it…
Great work! Time to dust off my iPad…
Since I don’t hesitate to gripe when I don’t like something, I really have to shout this time. BEAUTIFUL! Been using it for a few days now, and like it better with every post. The Reader interface is better than my desktop. It handles like a sports car. (And it even works with a pokey connection) Thank you, guys.
very good
Love the update, especially on the iPad. So easy to write and post from the iPhone now. Thanks for the work!
Just Awesome!!!Specially for me because I have an older iphone…
hey thanks bro
The version 3.1.1 keeps crashing, something about a “JetPack Sign In” Can we get a new version to clear up this bug? It was working fine with version 3.1
When will be possible to adjust photos in a post? I’d like to resize photo with fingers, align by myself without HTML knowledge.
Please if you do this use only % and not pixels, with this solution, I’ll be able to change theme without lost anything of my setting.
Thanks
No site stats. Not a fan of the update. It’s almost easier to just login on the website through the browser.
I am using an iPhone for WordPress. I have just recently received this problem but a few days ago, my site had stopped working on me from some error to connect with the server on my WordPress app. And when I went on Safari to try to fix the problem, my site would not work, along with not being able to get on to the dashboard. (All this is on the iPhone by the way.)
When I try to sign in with WordPress with my email, it would lead me to a SSL error. But when I login with my username, it logs me in though I still have no access to my dashboard or my blog.
Please help!!
New change: the computer I’m using now is working and I can be able to get on the dashboard etc. The iPhone app and safari still has the same error though all my other apps that require internet works fine.
