To clarify, the $250 fee is just for the early application process before November 21, and it’s refundable if you don’t get the domain you want. Here’s a little more on the process itself, per get.blog:
“If others apply for the same .blog name, it will go to an auction, with no price limit. If it contains a trademark, the owners may register it in a separate process, cancelling out your application.
“Either way, if you don’t get your domain, your payment will be refunded.
“Starting November 21, any remaining domains that did not get registered will be available starting at $30 a year.”
