If your WordPress website is hosted somewhere other than WordPress.com, we’d love for you to ask one simple question: Why?
Maybe you started there because of a stellar pricing deal on hosting and just stayed put for years. Maybe their offering was cutting-edge at one time, but now it seems outdated. Are all those paid add-ons starting to look a little bloated?
The WordPress.com of 2024 is vastly reimagined from what you may have encountered a couple of years ago. Our SEO tools, security features, unlimited bandwidth, and developer tools are world-class and built right in at no extra cost.
And for a limited time, we’ll move your existing WordPress site from any host to WordPress.com for free.
Let us do the work for you. We’re here to help and ensure that you’re getting the very best WordPress experience out of the box.
How it works
The migration process takes only a few minutes, with no downtime involved. (Read those last four words again, because they’re very important!) Once your site is migrated, you’ll connect the domain and your site will be ready to go. Here’s how it works:

- Head to WordPress.com/move and enter the URL of the WordPress site to migrate.
- Select the option to create a new site, or select the existing WordPress.com site where you’ll move the old site to.
- Select “Migrate site” to move all of your site’s content, themes, plugins, users, and customizations. (This selection requires our Business plan. More on that below.)
- Select “Do it for me” to get our team to review and handle your migration for you. Again, this option is 100% free for a limited time.

How do those features translate to a better experience for you? Here’s what Michael P. had to say about the experience of migrating to WordPress.com::
After migrating to WordPress.com our site is faster, easier to use, more secure, and technical support is nearly instant. The level of competency and understanding is a far cry from GoDaddy’s WordPress offering. It was a relief to work with a company that really knows how to manage WordPress!

I have a one year contract with Hostgator and a 5 year contract with register.com – which one do I need to cancel to take advantage of this great offer?
Hostgator provides hosting services, while Register.com offers domain registration for your website address. To migrate your site to WordPress.com, you need to transfer your site from HostGator to WordPress.com and cancel your plan with HostGator.
You can also transfer your domain name to us if you wish to manage everything in one place. But it’s not required to migrate your site.
I used to belong to WordPress so two emails are already registered under my name which makes it hard for me to move my site from Hostgator to WordPress – help?
Please log in to any of those accounts, and you will be able to migrate your site. If you have trouble logging in, please contact support to restore account access.
Hi,
Do you have pricing, i.e. annual, discounts for multi year?
Thanks,
Mary
Yes, the discount will applied to your first billing period. For example, if you subscribe to a 2-year plan, you’ll get 50% off on the first two years.
Hi,
I have a free site with WordPress but I have another site with Weebly a pro site, does this mean I can migrate this to WordPress.com?
Thanks, Judy
Hi Judy, you are correct. Simply enter your website’s URL at wordpress.com/move, log in to your account, and follow the instructions. Our Happiness Engineers will be available to assist you along the way or migrate the site for you.
If I have an existing WordPress.com site and want to create a new site on WordPress.com, will you offer to manage that migration for me by moving all of my posts, my pages, my media, my comments, etc. from my old WordPress blog to my new one?
This offer is available for site migrations from other WordPress hosting providers to WordPress.com. But you can copy your site or change the theme on existing one if that’s what you are looking to do.
Thanks. I have a Premium plan, not a Business plan, so the “copy your site” option is not available to me. My WordPress.com blog has been hijacked by some bad actor who is replicating it in its entirety on a handful of bogus “news roundup” sites and I am looking for a way to copy my existing site to a new site (different URL) so that it won’t be pirated (as my current site is) and I was hoping to get some help from WordPress to do this. But I’m a retiree and can’t afford (and have no need for) the Business plan. But thanks for getting back to me.
I have a site on wordpress.org – why would I want to change to wordpress.com?
It depends who is the hosting provider for your wordpress.org site? Here are five reasons to migrate to WordPress.com:
How do I find out who the hosting provider is? I assumed it was WordPress…
You can use https://wordpress.com/site-profiler/ to detect your hosting provider. Just enter the URL and it’ll be listed there.
to have more expereince in building sites
Am I allowed to ask you questions here? Will you answer? What is Cloudflare? Why do I have to pay Google WoprkSpace 20$ (or so about) every month? Do I need it? We would like to renew our site, make it more attractive. Who can I consult about it? Many thanks for who answers these questions. Marie La Palme Reyes

What about the 2 1/2 years hosting I have already paid for?
Kind of out of topic but what’s the site theme that appears in the header of this article?
I’m on wordpress.com I would like if it started new blogs with black letters instead of gray
Is there a way for your self hosted WP articles to appear in wordpress.com without this migration?
