Activation requires domain?

  Hi there,
  I was just about to create a blog on wordpress.com. I paid extra attention to choose that one version that gets a free domain from wordpress itself, as I don’t own any domains (and to be honest have no idea how domains work). Yet during the activation I got the request to fill in a usable domain. So I’m stuck now. Does anybody know why I get this request and what I can do now? :/
