Regarding GDPR
-
As an owner of a blog within the EU I am very concerned about the EU GDPR (or DSGVO as we call it in Germany). Amongst other rules that a blog must follow, Readers have to be able to opt out of wordpress saving their IP address when commenting as I understand it. Also they have to solve captchas both of which are Features that are not supported within a free wordpress Account.
Until now I didn’t see any confirmed hints that Features necessary for gdpr compliance will be added in time to the free wordpress Hosting as well which is why I see a lot of People leaving wordpress for self Hosting right now.
Of Course, one can still Switch to a paid Account at wordpress.com and alter Code, templates, CSS, Javascripts or install 3rd Party plugins to comply with the new eu gdrp. However, paid wordpress accounts that make this possible cost way more than self Hosting Options at Providers such as Strato or All-Inkl in Germany.
Before I also Delete my wordpress.com accounts and move my Blogs to self Hosting Providers, is there any official hint by wordpress.com that confirms that free wordpress accounts will be able to comply with the new eu gdpr in time?
