How can I transfer an wordpress dot com address from one site to another?

    Hi,
    I have two wordpress.com sites, e.g.:

    second.wordpress.com (with all my actual content)

    and: first.wordpress.com (empty)

    I want to make the empty site address, to be the other site’s address.

    I thought of deleting or renaming the empty site, but I don’t know if the address will be available or how long it will take to be available again.

    Hi there!

    The best way to do this is to export the content from your current site and import it into the new one. If you try to delete the site to reclaim the domain, the address will be blocked and you won’t be able to use it anymore.

    @agepeuve thanks for your answer.
    I’ve tried the import/export feature, but sadly I felt that that procedure meant losing some general site config, theme and its customization, and most importantly site statistics, followers, likes, social network interactions, etc. Overall, seems too traumatic for my site :-(
    Would it be a chance to ask any kind wordpress.com staff who could help me ? (just to rename my «production» site with the other name? (I just can’t find any way to contact wordpress.com Support)

    Hi there!

    Ticker or chat support are available for paid plans, so for your free plan our support channel are these free forums.

    While the internal domain of the site can’t be changed, luckily we a have a way around it. My recommendation would be setting up a custom domain for it. This way you could have your abc.com site pointing to the current. Moreover with a yearly paid starter plan you get a free domain for the first year AND the ticket support that you were needing.
