Changing a domain with WordPress (free plan)

  Hi!

  I’m trying to map my domain to point to a different host than WordPress.com and succeeded to update my domain name’s name servers. The next step would have been to attach my domain to my WP.com site, but this is where I encountered a problem.

  So basically the WP site says that the mapping should work but in order to do that I should have a paid plan with WordPress. Is this true? This is probably the case but I just wanted to make sure.
