“Remember to add your blog’s URL…”
-
I notice a lot reminders that without the URL specific questions about the blog cannot be answered. Blogger has a system that avoids this: At the top of these message boxes, have this reminder:
Remember to add your blog’s URL if your question/comment is specific to your blog.
Saves everyone a lot of time.

Well, when I had this idea (not “complaint” or “probem”) I looked for what seemed to be the best place to write it, since this is what it said:
[Un-necessary HTML code from the screen capture link removed by slik]
So since it says “Ideas for WordPress,” I am just going to sit tight and consider my idea sent. If I send it to Support, they might just say to send it to the link in the screen shot above, which appears to be the appropriate place.

Yes, this is the Ideas Forum and it is the appropriate place. I was simply indicating that if you want your idea to receive direct attention form Staff that you can submit it to them.
-
No, I didn’t need direction attention for my blog.
It was just an idea for saving time for both the blogger and those who are helping the blogger.

Although staff claims to look at the forums daily, it is always best when you have an idea on a change or a new feature, to send it directly into staff via the contact page. That way you can be assured that your idea will get logged and at some point discussed – if it is a good one.
I think this is a good idea. Please submit it to staff to make sure they see it.
-
Well, I did not perceive it as a problem for me personally and I did not need a personal reply from staff and I posted it in a spot where one does not necessarily expect a personal reply.
I figured the designation “Ideas for WordPress” was enough. If those who have to repeatedly write ”Please tell us your blog URL“ do not mind doing it, then I guess it’s ok.

G’morning Lorna,
Let’s add some clarity to this thread.
1. I did not ask for your URL.2. I did not state that you needed to go to Stagg because you have an issue with your blog.
3. There is no evidence of you being repeatedly asked for your URL in this thread.
4. Our Moderator removed yet another superfluous link that you posted.
Our advice stands.
-
typo above “Stagg” was of course meant to be “Staff”

@goofballcommittee – one of the problems here is that someone that asks a question here has created a blog when getting a user name to leave a question in this Forum. Clicking on the name then goes to an empty blog. Also many people have more than one blog and around 20% or more of the questions are ask by people that have not bothered to read the “before you post” instructions and have a WordPress.ORG self hosted site – many of them get bent when they are told to ask the question at WP.ORG.
Many things about the software work very differently so the correct answer here might not be relevant for a WP.ORG site.
Asking for the relevant URL helps to make sure that the answer is relevant – it also helps to keep the traffic in this Forum down so when you ask a question about your WP.COM site it does not get lost. There is a similar problem at WP.ORG with questions about WP.COM sites.
The number of unpaid helpers at WP.COM is very small compared to WP.ORG so keeping the workload down helps everyone.

@goofballcommittee
Yes, we can just click on usernames and provided they are linked to the blog in question like lornakismet’s (peregrine) username is linked then we do not need additional links. As this thread has nothing to do with a blog issue no screenshots are required. This Ideas Forum is for making suggestions to wordpress.com ie. to Staff.

To Mike, the problem that happened earlier with me was that I added my link because for reasons that I did not understand, clicking my gravatar took me to my old blog. I have now since fixed that and clicking the gravatar takes people to the right blog. I always toggle correcty to the blog in question, since it turns out to be the only one I frequently use.
To Timethief:
My suggestion about the URL was not about you or a reaction to you asking me for my URL. There was nothing in my first post at the top of the page to single you out and I personally am very aware of remembering to add my URL.
I was thinking of all of the helping members who possibly get frustrated when people ask for help but forget to add their URL. I do not know why you concluded that this was about you specifically and exclusively.

To Mike again: I see now that my paragraph above explaining the gravatar thing was not a part of the URL thread. It was, however, part of a thread that told me not to write my link because clicking the gravatar was the same as having the link. And so I typed in my link rather than have people click the gravatar and be taken to the wrong blog.
I was since then told to go to the Settings to change the priority of blogs, which I did, and which solved the problem.
I sent the screenshot to make sure that what I was talking about was visually indicated. Either way, the reader of my post had to click onto something, so no time lost.
