1 hour ban not lifted after 1.5hours..

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m in the beginning WP course and need to get back to it… Was banned for deleting the practice course I messed up and wanted to start over. At the same time I deleted several other sites that I set up accidentally, because I was getting promotional messages for each one. I posted this request on the course site also. I was hoping to spend tonight and the weekend on the course… how can I get started again??

    Correct account: Unknown

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hey there, can you share the error you’re getting, and a link to the page that’s displaying it?

Also, if possible, please add a screenshot here:
    https://wordpress.com/media

If not there, you can post to snipboard.io or a similar site and share the link.

Lastly, please also share what steps you were taking when this happened. We’ll try to duplicate the issue. Thanks!

    thanks supernovia…
I added a screen shot to the media link, but only half the pic showed up
    THIS IS THE ERROR:
“Limit reached. You can try again in 60 minutes. Trying again before that will only increase the time you have to wait before the ban is lifted. If you think this is in error, contact support.”
    LINK = https://wordpress.com/start/domains?ref=calypso-selector&source=my-home&siteSlug=gyanarthi.wordpress.com
    STEPS TAKEN:
IMMEDIATE step was i tried to add a new site
PRIOR to this – after messing up my practice site, I deleted it to start over. I also deleted 4 other sites that had been set up accidentally when starting the course because I was getting the promotional messages from each of them. Once they were gone I went to add a new site and got the error. I waited over an hour (maybe 80minutes) and logged in and clicked on “add a new site” and got the error again.
    thanks,
    bennett

  • Thanks Bennett.

I’m in the beginning WP course

Are you all in a class trying to register simultaneously? If so, is there any chance you could use another network to sign up, like on mobile data?

If instructors let us know in advance about classes, we can be ready, but if a lot of people try to sign up at once from the same location, this error can occur.

I’m in the class – was half way thru it… I’m still “banned” – 5 hours have passed…it said if this is in error contact support… then sent me to community.. I guess this isn;t support…

Yes, this is support for free websites hosted on WordPress.com and @supernovia is forum support Staff.

Are you enrolled with one of the courses for wpcourses.com or someplace else?

My thought is that if you kept adding and deleting free sites one after the other you might have triggered something somewhere, but only Staff can assist you with clearing that.

Please let them know what course you’re enrolled in and kindly wait patiently for them to reply here. Thanks.

In the interim, until Staff reply, I’d also recommend not trying to create a new site until you see that the ban has been lifted. And needless to say that once you do pass the banned period and have registered a free WordPress.com website, do not delete it no matter how much you “mess it up”. You can clear out the existing content instead of deleting the site and creating a new one. Here’s how you do that https://wordpress.com/support/empty-site/

If you run into an issue when you want to launch it/make it public, make sure you are following the prompts for continuing with a free website.

If you have other questions about this, post back here.

  • Hello there,

We really need an answer to the above…

Are you enrolled with one of the courses for wpcourses.com or someplace else?

The reason being is that, we generally don’t tend to ban anyone taking a course…

  • Unknown's avatar

thank you.. I am enrolled in “https://wpcourses.com/my-account/” as “gyanarthi” which is my root name at wordpress.com (gyanarthi.wordpress.com).
I did not delete my wordpress.com site, I deleted several free practice sites for the course that were created inadvertantly. I didn’t know they were there until I began receiving 4 emails daily about upgrading- the sites were not necessary – so I deleted them when I deleted the practice site i was working on in order to start over. I was at that point totally confused and wanted to begin the course again.
When I tried to add a new practice name, the ban notice was there – it did not go away in the 60 minutes it said I needed to wait before proceeding… it did not go away at all. The error message said to contact “support”. I tried that and was sent to community to post. Which I did. I don’t know what triggered the ban, nor do I know why it didn’t go away. That’s all I know about this. i would like to continue with the course.

    thank you JustJennifer!!

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for that information.

To check also, are you trying to create a new site here: https://wordpress.com/start/domains?ref=calypso-selector&source=my-home&siteSlug=gyanarthi.wordpress.com?

Currently, I see no hindrances in being able to create a site.

If you’re able to provide a screenshot of what you’re seeing via https://snipboard.io/ this will help us to resolve what you’re experiencing.

Rest assured, we’ll get you back working on that course as soon as possible.
