1 time backup

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello Team wordpress,
I am on a free account and need to backup the site before closing the account from the platform. Normally I’d install a plugin to assist in the backup/download but it will mean spending $40 to upgrade to the business account in order to enable just for this.

Must I go the upgrade route just for this or can we make an agreement? I’m willing to pay. How much will it cost to pay you just for 1 backup and terminate?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello there,

The alternative is to purchase WordPress paid plans (a business plan will help you here) and cancel them within 14 days of purchasing them.
In this way, you don’t have to spend money to perform a backup if you are willing to do it via plugins, which is a great way to save on your cost.

Find out more here on refund policy: https://wordpress.com/support/manage-purchases/#refund-policy

    Hope this helps! :)

    From that support guide:

Monthly plans can be canceled for a refund within 7 days of payment.

which would give you plugin access under the business plan for those 7 days.

Alternatively, you can use the built-in export feature to download your text content (posts, pages, comments, etc.) to import elsewhere or as a backup. You can also export your images separately as a backup. Note that these images are not linked to your existing posts. If you are importing your site somewhere else, you’ll want to keep your current site online and public until import completes.

Hope that also helps but post back here if you have more questions about this.

Thank you both @amiteshg93 & @justjennifer for the excellent advice. It has worked and I was able to migrate the site using the plain in  All-in-One WP Migration plugin . But it has an issue of the homepage missing CSS styling causing it to have images in different sizes and having text pushed out in varied positions. The theme I’ve used was a simple one from WordPress.com called “cubic”. I’m unsure if this theme is rescrited to WordPress.com or not…does anyone know?

Attached is what it looks on wordpress.com vs what it looks on the new server.
My question is: would you recommend that I use a different plugin to re-do the migration or is there a better way to fix this theme-relates CSS issue?

original : it serves all images into squares with text overlayed

new with wrong CSS styling: varies sizes of images and text pushed down in random styling

Hello again, if you haven’t been able to resolve this, I’d suggest posting to the support forums at https://wordpress.org/support/theme/cubic/ since you are now rocking a WordPress install and the org version of the Cubic theme. The com and org versions of that theme are different.

In general for help with the WordPress software itself, you’ll find your forums at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

Best wishes for your new venture!
