15,000 and counting subscription confirmation emails THIS MORNING!~
-
I am currently receiving about 50 emails a minute from WordPress sites stating that I have confirmed a subscription to their website/newsletter. These messages are coming in from all over the world and in many languages. This started about 2am PST and continue to this second.
My email address is no longer usable due to this DNS style attack….

Hi there,
Looks like your email address is being used in some sort of spam list. Can you please provide us with some of those WordPress sites addresses so we can further look into it?
Thanks!

As a note, I spoke with the same user via Expert support that day. The sites were all WordPress.org software, not those hosted on WordPress.com. The email had been found on a spam list when I mentioned to check haveibeenpwnd.com. You may want to redact the telephone number in the OP, @fstat.

@emathewson, @darciemg is correct: your email address got out and someone is using site subscriptions to spam you.
You won’t get any further emails from those sites unless you confirm each subscription. But your best bet for now is to try to filter the mail in your mail provider until this subsides.
