1and1 domain mapping
-
Hi all
My apologies for asking a question which may have already been posted, but I promise I’ve done a fairly thorough search! My question is as follows:
I’m going to pay for the domain mapping upgrade, but 1and1 don’t make amending DNS straightforward, especially for a newbie. So going through this step-by-step:
(1) Update your domain’s name servers to the following:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMThe 1and1 control panel offers two radio buttons:
(i) General settings (ii) CNAME
With the general settings radio button highlighted, the options are as follows:
BASIC DNS Settings
Name Server: 1&1 name server (or)
My name serverIf I change this to “My name server”, I get the option if filling out a Primary Name Server and up to three Secondary Name Server(s). Is this where I enter the information?
Complicating matters slightly further is that I do have an email address registered with 1and1, though it is a simple forward rather than, for example, an exchange account. Do I need to do anything here? (I have taken down all the DNS Settings such as mail server 1 and 2 and name server 1 and 2 just in case, together with the A-Record IP Address.
Thanks in advance. Steps 2 and 3 to come once I’ve figured this out!

I’m not familiar with 1and1, but by logic, primary nameserver would be NS1.WORDPRESS.COM, and the secondary servers would be NS2.WORDPRESS.COM and NS3.WORDPRESS.COM.

Once you have followed the rest of the domain mapping procedure…
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/
…and if 1and1 will continue to provide you with email service, you would enter their DNS information (MX, CNAME, A, etc.) like this:

Thank you so much!
Everything seems to be working based on what you said, including setting a custom DNS for the mail servers having tested them (MX). I’ve removed a frame redirect I had in my 1and1 control panel, so the svlog is now just displaying a 1and1 landing page.
I assume within 72 hours the blog will now display properly at the domain name once the relevant propagation has taken place.
Thanks again for your help, really appreciate it.
