2 -> 1 column in Theme options?
-
The customiser page for setting up my new wordpress page doesn’t have Theme Options in the menu, and I want my page to be single column not double. How do I change to single column?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
On the Twenty Seventeen theme, the one or two columns options are at Customize > Theme Options > Page Layout.
Some themes, particularly certain older ones I think, have Theme Options under Appearance in the WP Admin dashboard panel, but not Twenty Seventeen.
-
I am using the 2017 theme, but haven’t done this before. The menu that comes up from the customise button doesn’t include a Theme-options option, so how do I get to Page Layout?
-
Theme Options won’t display at Customize if the blog page, a post, or an archives page is displayed there, because the options are relevant on those. Switch to a static page and you’ll find that Theme Options appears.

In Twenty Seventeen, Theme Options only show up in Customize after you have set Static Front Page to A static page. Very confusing in my opinion.
(And maybe you’ll have to delete the search widget from ‘Blog Sidebar’ under Customize – Widgets).

Ok thanks, thought I had progress! I have gone to “a static page”, and found Theme Options and set it to one column and deleted the search widget on the posts page but the page is still split. Front page is messed up but I’ll come back to that! All I want is for my posts page to be one centred column….seems complicated to achieve this, but thanks for your attention.

That’s incorrect. You only have to be displaying a static page at the Customizer to reveal Theme Options there, which is hidden if you’re displaying a the blog page, a post, or an archives page at the Customizer.

If you want your blog posts and some static text to be displayed on your frontpage, see https://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode (and come back here if you have questions).
A warning: changes to that code can take a long time to show up.
If you want to see how I use the theme at the moment:

@manuschwendener,
@cliffinthefog,Correction:
Theme Options does appear at Customize if you’re displaying a post archives page (author, date, etc.). I was wrong about that, but it doesn’t appear if you’re displaying the blog page or a single post at Customize. This indicates that the options under Theme Options have no effect on the blog page or on single posts, which is what I found to be the case in tests.All I want is for my posts page to be one centred column….seems complicated to achieve this, but thanks for your attention.
Your original post here said, ” I want my page to be single column not double.” It wasn’t clear that you were referring to the posts page (aka blog page).
It might be possible to center the content of the posts on your posts page, but it can’t be accomplished (on Twenty Seventeen) through Theme Options. I suspect that it might require CSS customization.

That said: I think it would be great if switching to one column was a simple option for the blog page.
-
Maybe also of interest to you: I see that ‘New front page’ appears twice.
One occurence comes from https://wordpress.com/customize/cliffinthefog.wordpress.com -> Static Front Page -> Front page.
The second one comes from https://wordpress.com/customize/cliffinthefog.wordpress.com -> Theme Options -> Front Page Section 1 Content; you don’t need it here.

Thanks guys for your pointers and assistance. I’m short of time and new to wordpress and all its concepts, so it’s a bit of a maze to get going. I’ve tried another theme, see how I go. Not good at learning lots when I’m in a hurry! Signing off now.
