I have previously had my 2 free blogs redirected to 2 domains that are not WordPress hosted. This cost me $13 each. now I am unable to do this. i have one of the pointed to the domain I own, but the second blog when I try to do it, wants to map and have me get a plan. I own these domains till 2021, if I just move the two websites to WordPress will I have to pay again for them? And can I still run 2 separate blogs on 2 separate websites addresses or am I going to have to purchase 2 plans?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Good day,

Sounds like you have some great ideas going on.

I have found a thread with an answer from a Happiness Engineer regarding multi-site management.

For questions regarding anything domains related, please refer to the below guide:

I also added the tag “modlook” to have a Staff come and assist you with this concern.

    Hi there,

I have previously had my 2 free blogs redirected to 2 domains that are not WordPress hosted. This cost me $13 each. now I am unable to do this. i have one of the pointed to the domain I own, but the second blog when I try to do it, wants to map and have me get a plan.

I believe 13$ is the cost of the domains you own, right? Well, to have a WordPress.com site on the domains you already own you have to map it. You don’t necessarily require a plan but you would require domain mapping which will cost you around 11$ (approx.).

Once you buy domain mapping by visiting Manage purchases, you have to point your site to WordPress.com by changing the Name Servers. To do this, you have to contact your registrar (domain provider) and ask them to change the Name Servers to:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

Refer this support document on domain mapping for more details: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Also, instead of domain mapping if you want to transfer the domain to WordPress.com you can do that as well now. Here is the support document for the same: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/.

I own these domains till 2021, if I just move the two websites to WordPress will I have to pay again for them?

As I mentioned above, if you already own a domain you can just pay for domain mapping and point it to WordPress.com. In this case, you will not be required to buy an entire WordPress.com plan but have to purchase domain mapping to have a WordPress.com site. Also, to have two WordPress.com sites on two separate domains, you have to purchase two domain mappings.

But if you are transferring your domain to WordPress.com (as suggested above) then you would not require changing the Name Servers (as you have to do in domain mapping). Domain transfer feature does this automatically for you.

Moreover, if you are moving your existing site to WordPress.com you must visit this support document: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/. It will help you move your site.

And can I still run 2 separate blogs on 2 separate websites addresses

Yes, you can use multiple sites/blogs using single WordPress.com account.

or am I going to have to purchase 2 plans?

Each site is different from another and don’t interfere in the features of each other even if they work under single WordPress.com account. Therefore, if you want to have a plans on two sites, you have to purchase two separate plans even if you have them in single WordPress.com account.

  • Hi there,

I see you’ve already bought two domain transfers, but you also have a site redirect, and what you used to have here instead was domain mapping, so let’s first clarify what you want to do.

Do you want your two WordPress.com sites to appear at the two domains? Then you need either a domain mapping OR a domain transfer – mapping if you want to keep paying your current provider for ownership of the domain, or a transfer if you want to move the domain registration to us so you pay us for ownership of the domain going forward.

As the domain mapping upgrades you used to have both expired quite some time ago, you are required to purchase a plan for each site to add them back now, as we no longer sell domain upgrades independently of plans.

A Site Redirect is something completely different. A redirect is if you want to send traffic from one site to a completely different site, and it is not used to connect a domain to your site. Having a site redirect and a domain upgrade for the same domain on a site, as you currently have with smallspacegardening.info, will prevent the site from working correctly. So if your goal is to have that site appear at smallspacegardening.info, you need to cancel the Site Redirect upgrade you bought.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.
