2 Blogs moving to one

    Hi Mike,

It is not possible to install plugins on WordPress.com, for security reasons. Plugins can only be installed on self-hosted WordPress.org blogs. (You can learn more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org if you are curious about that.)

Is there a particular feature you’re trying to add with a plugin? WordPress.com has a number of features inspired by popular plugins, and I can help you find out if what you’re looking for is already available here.

Ok, now i understand better. So, i am currently working on two things; the priority is Adding Pay Pal. You sent me a link earlier. Will i be able to make Pay Pal work on our site? Tips?

Second, what prompted my email was trying to add Categories to specific pages, but maybe not possible? Another related question…..can i add a Tag about a specific topic within a Page? We have some “workshops” available for people, each with unique purpose and would benefit from a tag or two. It seems to me, the only thing i can do is “blog” about them on blog page? Make sense?

    Thanks Rachel

    Hi Mike,

Yes, you can add a PayPal button to your site using the PayPal guide I mentioned earlier. If you run into any trouble with that, please let me know.

Categories and tags are features for posts, so there isn’t a way to add them to pages. Is there a particular reason why you’d like to be able to add them to pages? There might be another way to get at that without using categories and tags.

As you mentioned, you can also create posts with those categories or tags and write about the workshops in those blog posts.

Hi there and thanks. I will work at Pay Pal and get back required.

I would like to know if there is a way to “tag” a portion (workshop) of a page……we have several workshops on one page…..it would be great to Tag an element of a workshop and maybe use Categories to group the workshops…..is this possible?

    Hi Mike,

If you’d like to be able to group the workshops so you can see them all on one page, the best way to do that is by creating a post for each workshop. You can add tags or categories to each of those posts and then set up Category Pages (or you can follow those steps to set up Tag Pages) to show all of the posts with that category/tag on one page.

There isn’t a way to so that sort of thing if the workshops are listed on static pages, so I’d recommend using posts for that. :)

Hi Rachel. All working well until Pay Pal. I want to use a PP button on one of my pages with a drop down menu. When I create the button in PP and copy the code per instructions, I do not get the PP button …I get an expanded drop down menu only. Thoughts? Ideas? Mike

maybe drop downs do not work yet? per older guidelines If there’s a way, would be helpful Mike

It looks like I need to have a Pay Pal button for each item I want to sell…unless you have a fix to the drop down menu?

I wonder if there is a “chart” I might use in my wordpress page. I could summarize each workshop with a paypal button beside it; then on the next row of the chart, show the next workshop etc. Thoughts?

Are there any other e-commerce ideas / work arounds? Thank you

    Hi Mike,

WordPress.com does not support the dropdown menu for PayPal. You’ll need to create a separate button for each item following the steps in our PayPal guide.

I wonder if there is a “chart” I might use in my wordpress page. I could summarize each workshop with a paypal button beside it; then on the next row of the chart, show the next workshop etc. Thoughts?

If you’re comfortable working with HTML, you can create HTML tables to do that. We also have a Beginning HTML guide with more information to get started with HTML.

Are there any other e-commerce ideas / work arounds?

With the WordPress.com Business upgrade, you can create a full eCommerce shop for your site. That’s a bit more investment than adding the PayPal button, but it will give you more options to work with. :)

Hi Rachel. A question about a Contact Form within a page. Is there a way to adjust the email address that the submitted contact form gets sent to (notification) ? I would like to add or change the default email address

    Thanks

    Mike

Also, do you know how to send back an automated response to the submitter? i.e…..”received your email….etc etc?

    Thanks again

    Mike

    Hi there,

Is there a way to adjust the email address that the submitted contact form gets sent to (notification) ? I would like to add or change the default email address

You can change the e-mail address the notifications are sent to. The instructions for how that works are found here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/#notification-preferences

Also, do you know how to send back an automated response to the submitter? i.e…..”received your email….etc etc?

It’s not possible to send am automated message, but when visitors submit the feedback form, they get an on-screen notice that their feedback was sent. Hopefully that will solve this for you.

Let me know if you need anything else!
