2 blogs on 1 account:How do I leave new blog details as link back when commentin

Blog 1: Billies Craft Room, just stared a new one Blog 2: A Space to heal, which is linked to BCR. They are on different topics.

My question is: When I visit others blogs and leave a comment, how do I change it so that the new blog details are left as the link back, instead of the older ones?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. You can change the web address linked to your username from your Account Settings, here: https://wordpress.com/me/account

Note that you can only have one web address linked there at a time. Changing the address there won’t change it for older comments. They will still be linked to the old blog. If you want a new comment to link to the old blog again you’ll have to change it in your account settings first.

That’s brilliant, thank goodness you could make sense of my question and knew what I meant. I was having trouble explaining it.

Does it matter how many times you swap it too and fro like that?

To be fair its only the one that I’m likely to write out too for a while so hopefully it won’t be too much of a problem but it would help to know ;)

Thanks so much for your help.

  • As far as I know you can change the website linked to your username as often as you want. You can even remove it completely and add it back later. It doesn’t have to be a WordPress.com site either.

Keep in mind you’re probably going to get confused at one point and post a comment linked to the wrong blog (it happens to everyone who try this). If you do, there’s no way to undo it, but it doesn’t sound like that would be too big an issue for you.

I get the feeling what I should have done was open a new account so the new blog could stand alone, as it is on a different subject altogether. DOH!!!!

Is there a way to do that from where I am now, so I can keep the blog name and content I’ve used already?

  • You can totally do that.

Log out and register a new account with a different email address to the one you used for this account. You won’t be able to register the username that exactly matches the blog URL, so register a different username and the change the display name to match the URL.

Then log back into this account and transfer the blog to the other account. This will mean you can no longer access the other blog’s dashboard from this account, so you’ll have to log out and log in each time you want to manage, comment or post via the other blog.

You can transfer a blog from the My Blogs page on the WP-Admin dashboard. https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-wordpress-com-user-or-account

    Getting in a pickle here.

    1. Could I deleted ‘A Place to Heal’ blog, and not delete the ‘Billies Craft Room’ blog?
    2. How soon would it be till the ‘A Place to heal’ name became available. ie Could I delete it, create a new account and then be able to try to be quick about signing back up to try to get it again.
    3. I tried to create another account but it seems to be trying to give me the blog address the same as the user name. It says I can change this later but does this mean I can still change the blog address to the ‘a place to heal’ one, once I’ve been through the moving process, it sounded like that blog address changes referred to the options for the endings, rather than the whole name, or am I reading that wrong? Its all getting a bit confusing.

  • 1) You can delete a specific blog in your account, yes, but:

    2) If you delete a blog that address will never be available again, not even for you, so DON’T DO THAT!!!

    3) Yes, when creating a new account the system asks you to register a new site. However, there’s also a link on that page to continue without creating a blog. It’s small – I don’t think they actually want us to click it – but it’s there.

Even if you register an address for the new account, you’ll still be able to transfer your second blog to that account (transfer the existing blog, not change the address of the new blog) AND set it as the primary blog in that account. The address matching the new username will be reserved for you forever, regardless of whether you register it or not. And even if you register it, there’s no rule that you have to use it. You can always set it to private and use it as a test blog to try out new themes, and such.

Let me know if I just confused you further and I’ll try to simplify :)
