Can I have two separate blogs in the same URL?

    Hi,

This is rather confusing, so bear with me please.

I’m currently writing a blog using an alias but I would like to start blogging in my own name in the same place (blog). I thought I’d do this by just adding another category and publish my posts there, and not have them seen on the main page with the others (in other words, you’d have to click on the category to see what’s freshly pressed in that blog). I did this and marked for the post to only end up in that category, but although that happened, it was still posted on the main page too (which I guess is what should happen if you don’t change the settings). So my question is; is that even possible? If so, could you explain how (using easy terms, please – I know nothing about computers or how they work, obviously…)? If not, what do you recommend I do instead? I’ll have the same readers so I want to keep it simple for them to read both, preferably on the same adress.

    Thanks,

    Alex

Everything you “post” will appear on the front page, you can’t really make a new category private. I don’t think it would be possible to do what you want… hmm!
You might be better off creating a new blog and adding it as a link to your blogroll. That way, all its content will still be tucked away in a link in your sidebar. Your current readers will spot it in the sidebar and (hopefully) go to the link, the same way they would go to the new category.
Then again, you could post under pages? New pages don’t appear on the front page, and they’re pretty similar to posts (although no tags, no categories, etc). Otherwise, your best bet would be to create a new address…

Sorry I couldn’t really help! Hopefully a more experienced blogger can chime in.

    Hi Alex!

Unfortunately, it isn’t possible to separate your posts that way. All blog posts appear in reverse chronological order on your “Posts” page, regardless of how they’re categorized.

One thing you may want to look into is using Categories to separate your posts. For example, you could create two Categories to separate your blog into “Bulldog Diary” and “My Writing.”

In order to keep these posts separate (and not appear together on the front page of your blog), you would need to create a static front page and then create links to the Categories in your menu.

Please see these support documents for instructions on how to do the above:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-category-pages-to-your-menu

If you need any help with any of this, please don’t hesitate to ask :)
