2 problems with galleries
-
I’ve found 2 frustrations in trying to set up galleries:
1. No matter how I set my gallery settings in an attempt to make the thumbnails small, I still get 3 or 4 lines of large thumbnails even tho there are only 10 fotos in my gallery. I’ve set it at 4 columns, 5 column, 9 colums — but every time it refuses to give me these columns and instead presents large thumbnails on many lines.
2. When I click on a thumbnail, the large photo appears, with a box below for comments. But I don’t want a comments box, and I had previously unchecked the comments box on the page. The page itself has no comments box — but the box mysteriously appears when I click a thumbnail to bring up a full-size foto.
Thank you again immensely for your help, to timethief and panos and others. The help I have been receiving in trying to set up a good-looking, helpful blog has been quite wonderful.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Link to the blog in question please: the one linked to your username is empty.
Re 2: You’re talking about the so-called attachment pages. Those adopt the default settings, not the options of the particular post. So the only way to have attachment pages with no comment box is to go to Settings > Discussion and disable commenting, then create the gallery post, then enable commenting in the Discussion module of the post editor.

Question 2:
Are the image linked to Attachment Page? If so, do this:
– Open Edit Post (visual editor)
– Clic on anywhere on the gallery. Click the button Edit Gallery.
– In Gallery Settings choose Link tumbnails to -> “Image file”.
(Don’t forget to click “Update gallery settings”) -
My questions pertain to my active blog: graydonreserve.wordpress.com
Thank you panos and ludus.

@paralleluniverse123- the default thumbnail size is 150 pixels along its long axis. If you want to change that, you have to change your overall media settings for your entire blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/media-settings/
Panos is correct that presently you cannot turn off the comment box for Gallery Attachment pages without turning it off for your entire blog and then enable commenting on each and every post.
