2 separate blog accounts: Can they be merged?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have two accounts (2 different email addresses, login names, etc) with one blog created under each. I would like them to appear on the same account:

When I log into my blog I currently use, I would like to see both blogs listed. I read that deleting the blog does not free up the blog address, which is what I want. So blog address is http://www.abcd.wordpress.com (for example) with login#1. Other blog is http://www.wxyz.wordpress.com with login#2. Is there a way to get both addresses/blogs to show up with I use login#1?

    Hope this makes sense!
    Thanks

The FAQ that I am really showing you is here. It documents how to move a blog over to the other username.

With the blog that you don’t want to username2, login to it and go to ADMIN – USERS and then add your username1 (favorite login) as a blog admin. Then logout and login as the desired username1. Then go to the same place and delete username2 as an admin.

    Should work.

Okay, thanks Trent, I will try this again. Maybe I just wasn’t making sense of it before. I read over that FAQ. I will be back if it doesn’t work :)

Okay, I am now able to see both blogs under one account. However, when I log in, and it has the list of blogs on the WordPress homepage, I still only see my original one. I don’t know how to toggle in between the two blogs. Sometimes when I click view site, it has my dashboard”S” (so I can select which blog dashboard to return to) and sometimes, I can only go back to the dashboard for the site I’m viewing.

I’m assuming that both sweetdreamingtree and momto1cutekid are the same person since you’re coming in from the same IP address.

Which account is suppose to have both blogs? I think you may just be logged into the wrong one.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yes, that’s me (sorry)

The momto1cutekid is supposed to have both blogs.

I’m logged in to the one that I wish to have both blogs. I just can’t seem to toggle back and forth between them. If I go under my profile, I can see both blogs (where you choose which one is the primary blog).

From my understanding, I should be seeing “My Dashboards” when I log in (?) But I am only seeing My Dashboard – singular, and I can’t see to switch between blogs. I’ve tried logging out and back in quite a few times, just can’t seem to figure it out…

When you go to http://wordpress.com are the two blogs listed under your avatar (to the right of “Blog of the Minute”)?

It may take a while for both blogs to show up in the “My Dashboards” roll-over menu in the blue bar at the top of the screen.

Also, there is currently no way to switch blogs from within the Dashboard. See this thread:
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=7771&page&replies=7

I have been told that staff is working on an easier way to switch blogs

I always have to logout and then log back in to have the extra blog showing under “My Dashboards”, so maybe give that a try!

@Trent – FYI, the “My Dashboards” thing is really quirky. I have a total of 5 different blogs under my username now, and they don’t all show up all the time. The two oldest ones are always there, but the other three are hit or miss.

That being said, logging out and back in, and a cache clear, can’t hurt :-)

When my new blogs were wee babies, I guess I did have similar issues. For some strange reason (not sure what it is), but the blogs keep showing up in my list now. Thanks for pointing out that it is as quirky as you say!

judyb12, okay good to know someone else finds it quirky. I can login, and go to view site, and sometimes it shows dashboards/plural and sometimes, I can only return to the dashboard for the blog I’m viewing. That stinks. But obviously, it isn’t just me. I’ve tried logging out and clearing cache…no luck in fixing the ‘quirkiness’

  • Unknown's avatar

ahhh, familiar quirkiness! i feel a bit better now. same stuff happening to me. i can’t pinpoint any regularity to blogs appearing (or not) under my dashboards.

I have recently added a new blog for a total of two. Both show when I log into WordPress, with no problem. However, the only way I can get “My Dashboards” to show from either home page is to hit <control & f5> from the home page of either blog to refresh the screen. Then “My Dashboards” appears. Otherwise it only shows “My Dashboard”.

I have logged out, logged in, cleared cookies, cleared cache many times. Is there some order of logging in or out and clearing data that might help? Or some other trick I am missing? I’ve read everything I can find in the forums and followed many of the links in the answers.

Since this seems to be a problem that isn’t isolated to me, i’m going to go ahead and put in a Feedback to staff about it (i’m pretty willing to live with idiosyncracies in general).

    Here’s the response i received:

    Hi,
I apologise for this – the problem is being actively worked on right now.

Oh thanks Judy! When I got up this morning, both blogs are showing up on my “list” of blogs on the WP homepage *knocks on wood* I use Firefox, and I have WP as a button on my bookmark bar, so it is pretty easy to head to the WP homepage if needed. I seem to be having better luck today seeing both dashboards when I view my blogs also.

“My Dashboards” has been appearing correctly for several hours now.
