2-step authentication
-
I created this blog while I was living in UK, hence I used my uk phone number for 2-step authentication. However, because I no longer live in uk, that phone number is no longer available, in other words, I cant receive the code for verification. I tried using backup codes that was given to me at the time, but they also dont work (it says they are no longer valid). So I dont know how to login to my account exactly, would you please let me know how can i change the number for 2 step-authentication or maybe get a new set of backup codes. It also asks for code verification when i try to go into my settings.

Hi there,
The good news is you’re still logged into your account at the moment, else you wouldn’t even be able to post here :) But let’s get you into your 2FA settings so you can update that.
Please send an email to passwordhelp[at]wordpress.com, from the email address you’re using for your WordPress.com account, and explaining the situation. We’ll need that email from you as an additional verification.
Someone from our account recovery team will then be in touch with the next steps you need to follow to update your 2FA settings.
Once you’re back in, please consider setting up app-based authentication instead, using an app like Google Authenticator, Duo or Authy. Those don’t rely on a phone number, and even work if you have no signal at all, so tend to be a better option than SMS :)
