2 Step Authentication Nightmare!!!

    Hi,

    Unfortunately, about 3 months ago I activated 2 Step Authentication feature and since then I was locked out from logging in to my blog!!. The sms doesn’t arrive to my phone!, I tried several times until I gave up.

    Today , I made one last desperate try to access my blog and guess what ? The damn SMS arrived!. I logged in , went directly to disable this evil feature and to disable it the system MUST send me another damn SMS!!!.

    Yes , you guessed it right…the message didn’t arrive! and I tried several times with no hope. Fortunately , I’m logged in for one month ( I selected the option to make the verification active for one month when I got the sms today prior to logging in).

    Can anybody help me get rid of this feature and completely disable it before the month expire and I get kicked out again once and for all ??

    Hey Timethief, you are a lifesaver ! I totally forgot about the backup codes and the help link you just added reminded me. I was able to disable the 2 steps hell out of my blog system. ( I used one of my backups codes to disable it! ) As soon as I disabled it the mad system sent me the verification code and it arrived on my phone!!!! I don’t care why and how this happenned but I will never activate the 2 steps verification EVER!

    @amirzox0,

    I am sorry that you were having such a difficult time receiving your SMS codes.

    Did you use your country code for Egypt (+20) when attempting to verify via SMS? If so, it’s not required for you to manually enter the country code into that box, you just need to select it from the ‘Country Code’ dropdown menu.

    Let me know if that is the case. Again, sorry for the inconvenience.

    I’m having a very similar problem…

    I got locked out of my WordPress account when I upgraded my phone and the authenticator codes no longer worked from my new phone.

    I tried resting my WordPress password, which worked just fine, but this did not resolve the authenticator issue.

    The account was set up in November of 2012 by a student of mine and I don’t know what email he used to set up the account.

    However, I’m in contact with him and have asked him to look for the original WordPress activation URL or key to help identify myself, but so far he has been unable to find it.

    If I printed backup codes, and I’m not sure I did, I can’t find them.

    I have a newsletter I need to get out and I can’t get into my account can you please help.

    The account is chobojiseattle and the password has just changed to …. (I sent to darnelldibbles via email)

    To help identify myself the code to update my password was sent to by SMS to my phone at 9:44AM this morning from 415-390-2137 the code itself was 09454112. I used this code to update my password this morning.

    When I tried to get a recovery verification code using
    “Send recovery code via text” nothing happened no text was sent to my phone. Obviously, my phone is connected to the account because I got the reset password text.

    Please help!
