200 views, 7 visitors?

  Hello,
  I’m very confused. My stats suddenly skyrocketed today – I received 212 views, but the stats page says I only had 7 visitors. Apparently each visitor viewed 30.29 pages…is that just an average?
  Only 9 people were referred by Twitter, 3 by search engine. I haven’t done anything much to particularly promote my website today, and I don’t really get more than 30-50 views a day if I’m lucky. I’m just wondering why there are so many views but so few visitors?

  Apologies for the spam, but I’ve just remembered that the views have only come in the past hour or so – a sudden dump of views. Could WordPress have made an error?

  Spikes in traffic happen, that is normal

  The number of visitors is a lagging number and it can take a few hours for the visitor count to fully update

  Looking at your subject, I would expect some spikes. People also share links. I get spikes from time to time that have 4 or 5 times my hourly average in one hour
