2012 theme with 2 columns
-
Hi,
I’m just getting started but am baffled about how to make my pages have 2 columns. I’ve searched the forums, and have been following the how to articles/tutorials with little success.
Right now my site has 1 large column, with 1 large header (photo). But I’d like it to look like the example with two columns. The advice I’ve found tells me to go to Page Attributes, on the right side of the page editor under the publish mode. And to look for the template. But I need specific directions on how to find all of those parts, because I’ve been unsuccessful on my own. Can you help me? Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

For a clear understanding of how your theme is designed and what the set up options are see here please http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/twentytwelve/

Thank you.
I’ve read that and checked as many things as I can and I am confused. I would really appreciate some specific advice based on my questions in the my first post above. -
When you go to page attributes you have choices so select the one that provides a sidebar and then you will have tow columns.

If you do not create a “Front Page Template” then you will have a conventional two column (one for posts and one sidebar) layout. If you do create it then you are eliminating the sidebar.
-
My front (home) page is going to be static, not for posts.
My choices for templates are #1… default (not sure what that is), #2…front page, and #3…full width page template with no sidebar.
So you’re saying I should choose default and I will have 2 columns? I’d like it to look like the sample in the themes gallery: smaller photo in the right hand column and writing in the left hand column. I’m wondering why it doesn’t change to two columns (and the photo stays large covering both columns) when I choose this default template.

Sorry Maureen but the days when I will load my test blog with new themes and work through these kind of issues with bloggers are in the past. What I can and will do for you is tag this thread for Themes Staff assistance and request that you subscribe to it. To subscribe:

I’ve already subscribed to this topic and am being notified of followup posts. I thought that a staffer would respond eventually but thanks for your help.

Hi there,
Are you trying to write text in two columns on a page? If you do, you can do this via the Text Editor. Take a look at this guide written by one of our volunteers here:
Formatting text pt. 1: blank lines, alignment, wrap-around, two columns
Scroll down to: Two columns (or more)
If that is not what you mean, please let me know!
