2014 featured content

  I’ve changed my site to 2014 theme and most of it is okay but I’m confused about teh featured content option. I’ve set it with the tag of gardens and 6 posts appear there but none of them have any images visible, just a black lined space over the tags and titles. Does anyone know if its because you only get that option if you buy a design upgrade? The info about the theme suggests that its included. Thanks anyone who can help.   Have you consulted the “Featured Content and Featured Images” section on the theme description page? http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/twentyfourteen/

  The size of featured images is critical to their display regardless of theme. Adhere to the required dimensions and they will appear.

  Featured images in Twenty Fourteen work best with images that are at least 1038 wide.

  If you don’t see the Featured Image module on your Add New or Edit Post page, please make sure you’ve selected Featured Image in your Screen Options. http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options

  Twenty Fourteen

  An image that is at least 672 pixels wide — but ideally 1038 pixels wide is the best size for “full screen” images — will be displayed above the title on both posts and on pages.   Timethief you are a star! When I read this at forst I didn’t get it and was about to give up and go back to 2010. I tried again and now I’ve got there, it’s great to learn and WordPress keeps on challenging me. Many, many thanks.

  Hi timethief or somebody else.
  I like to get the grid view in the Featured content area at the top of the home page like on the twenty fourteen demo page.
  But even though in I have choosen’grid’ in the customize section it shows screen wide featured images at the home page with the complete article.
  Do the featured images for grid view need to have a certrain size. Or do I need to set tags to split the post?

  Or can I control it in the customize section, featured content by the tag name which has standart ‘featured’. Does it need a link to the post set by the tag name?

  a) You go to Appearance > Customize > Featured Content, select the Grid option, type the name of a tag in the Tag Name field (can be any word you like), click Save.
  b) You go to Posts > All Posts, edit each post you want to display in the grid section, add that tag to each post, click Update.
