2016 theme colors can’t be customized

When I try to save the colors I’ve chosen, I get this error message.
“Unable to save due to 1 invalid setting”
Your coders have messed up. I don’t need to know the specifics, please just fix it.
To the usual fanboy who will pop in to say “try a different theme”: please go away. That theme has been used successfully before, and there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be usable now. The people at Automattic either are going to do their jobs, which includes fixing the things they break, or they are not. If they are not, then why waste any time using the system they aren’t willing to do maintenance on?
I completely disagree with the concept of a “hack” and am not open to having a discussion on the subject.
