2017 Theme
-
Trying to develop section 1 2 and 3 as shown in demo. But the demo calls them frontpage section1 frontpage section 2 etc. But in the customizer it shows as home page not front page the customizer just doesn’t use the same terminology and there is no obvious way to make sections through the customizer. It doesn’t show how to create the static page with a separate background image that shows through the sliding cropped window as you scroll down through the sections as in the live demo. I am confused.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
The “Front Page” section of the Twenty Seventeen theme guide provides information and instructions regarding the paneled front page that is the leading feature of the theme and which is demonstrated in the Twenty Seventeen demo.
Let us know if you have any trouble following those instructions.

Your front page is presently set to display the latest posts. You’ll have to change the front page setting so that it displays a static page. In this regard, the theme guide says:
To set your site up like this [with panels, like the demo], start by navigating to Customizer → Static Front Page, and set your site to use a static front page if you haven’t already.

Hello Kent
I completely agree that the naming is confusing.
I’ll explain how I did it for manuschwendener.ch; I’ll post it in several posts so I don’t by accident lose one long text.
1)
As musicdoc1 explained: if you want to mix your blog posts with static pages on your hoe page, in the customizer, under Homepage Settings, you have to check “Your homepage displays: a static page”.Right below that, I have
Homepage = welcome
Posts page = blog(both pages that exist as ‘Page’).

2)
Customizer – Theme Options
Page Layout: One Column
Front Page Section 1 Content: blogAll the sections below that still are on ‘ – Select – ‘.
(I’m writing this while I look for the settings – it’s as confusing as the first time, but now I know it can be done.. I hope I can finish before I have to leave for an appointment.)

3)
The page called blog from 1) needs to exist as a static page and it needs to be defined as the Posts Page.
Couldn’t find the place where to set it as Posts Page.
The code on my blog page looks like this
[display-posts include_date="true" date_format="d.m.Y" include_excerpt="true" posts_per_page="9" image_size="large" wrapper="div"]
(and a bit I left out to get the ‘Older posts’ button.)
4)
This static page blog has as the featured image the water picture you see on manuschwendener.ch

Do you want to try how far you get with this? Good luck!
