Apologies, I am unable to identify the word press version i am currently using and additionally unable to upgrade to the 2020 version.

    Please advise.

  • Hi there,

Judging by the site connected to your WordPress.com account it looks like you’re using the open-source WordPress software and therefore you need to seek help at these forums:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

The forum you’re currently posting is for WordPress.com hosted sites only. If you want to know more about the differences between WordPress.com and the WordPress software you can read this document:

I’ve tried to use the link suggested above but my logins don’t work on the wordpress.org page

Please help I need to update my wordpress version.
I’m unable to make any changes to my website or understand if I’m the admin user or not.
    Thanks

  • Hi,

my logins don’t work on the wordpress.org page

You’ll need to create a new login there if you don’t have one set up there yet. It’s a separate site from this, and separate from your own copy of WordPress.

I’m unable to make any changes to my website or understand if I’m the admin user or not.

Generally if you’re paying for the hosting account, you’ll be the admin. The company you’re paying to host the website may be able to help you if you’re running into some technical difficulties. Can you get in touch with them?

I’ll try to get in touch with them, I tried to update the wordpress filling the config page but I must have done something wrong because now it doesn’t recognise the database and I don’t know how to fix it :(

  • @tjgarciap, since WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two independent entities, we are not able to help you with that I’m afraid.

Reach out to your host, they may be able to advise.

http://wordpress.org/support/ is also a great resource for sites using the open-source WordPress.org software.

the thing is that my profile is in wordpress.com so I guess the website is made from there not from wordpress.org, right?

  • Are you referring to tjgarcia.es?

If so, then no – your site is hosted elsewhere but is connected to your WordPress.com account via Jetpack so that it can take advantage of the features that WordPress.com offers. Although your site is connected to WordPress.com via Jetpack, it is using the open-source WordPress.org software and you need to seek help at these forums:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forums

Since we do not have access to self-hosted WordPress.org sites, we are unable to provide any direct assistance to your issue. As others stated, I would also reach out to your site host for help.

If you want to know more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org you can read this document:

    Thanks!

Thanks! omg this is so complicated! :(

  • Perhaps this page will help?

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

Or maybe an analogy: it’s like the difference between a restaurant and a recipe.

You can use our service, which provides hosting and management, as well as support with paid plans. Basically we maintain the software for you.

Or, you can buy hosting elsewhere, and set up your own free WordPress installation there. Just note many hosts do not offer WordPress management and support, or they charge extra for it. This is a good option if you want to handle the technical end of things yourself.

    I hope this helps!
