25GB Space Upgrade Expiration
-
I purchased a 25BG upgrade last year and still have 26.4 GB (94.3%) remaining.
My question is what, exactly, is expiring? Surely not the remaining 26.4 GB?
-
Yes, plus the ability to host MP3s and various other special formats. If you’ve uploaded them, I believe they go POOF when the upgrade expires.
-
That doesn’t make sense. So, among other things, that means that for the life of your blog, you can only upload 25GB?
-
No.
You lose the ability to access the extra 25GB of storage. So if you let the upgrade expire, you get a whopping 3GB of storage and that’s it. If you HAVE the upgrade and keep it going, you can upload 25GB. If you want more, you can presumably purchase additional upgrades.
-
Hmmm. Given my situation (the fact that I purchased the 25GB upgrade and used less than 6%, it would make more sense for me to just go with the cheaper upgrade rather than renew at 25GB, no?
-
Entirely up to you. Remember, the upgrade isn’t just space; it allows you to upload video and music files as well. You lose those if you let it expire.
-
True, but I clearly don’t need that much space (or to spend that much $$$) if, to date, I’ve used less than 5GB.
Much thanks.

Joe,
Less than a year ago I upgraded to the minimum 5GB required to post video to WP’s player. That gave me 8GB total, but after a lot of people ran into issues merely trying to play the WP video on my blog, it doesn’t make sense to keep loading more onto it. The video on posts using WordPress’s video player which will go poof! as rain says when the year runs out, I’ll simply re-load onto yourube.Unless you’re loading an incredible amount of stuff onto your blog, it makes sense to buy only the 5GB. Too bad you have to keep paying or stop playing. :-)

Hmmm. Well, thanks for the advice. To be honest, I’m quite surprised that, even after paying for a 25GB subscription, the media files you have uploaded will be wiped out if you don’t re-subscribe.
-
What happens to my files when my space upgrade expires?
You won’t be able to upload any new files until you renew the upgrade.
No mention of files being wiped out.
-
No? That’s contrary to what I’d heard, although of course I can’t remember where I heard it. Certainly with other upgrades you lose access to whatever the upgrade gave you: if you don’t renew the CSS upgrade, bam! Back to Kubrick or whatever for you.

I’d like to save what I’ve uploaded so I’ll renew at the lower subscription rate. Hopefully that will allow me to keep my existing media files.
I assume it will?
