2FA

Your two-factor authentication is too impatient. I need a minute to get my phone up and get the app running. No other site that I use is so quick to require me to go back to square one — for which you don’t even provide a ready link — and restart the authentication process.

You do have a number of options for your authentication: the WordPress app, an authenticator app (like Google Authenticator or Authy), or via SMS messaging. You can see how to set those up here:
https://wordpress.com/support/security/two-step-authentication/
However, I’ve not run into the problem where I can’t get my code from my authenticator app entered in time, so could you walk us through the process and how much time each step takes so we can try and replicate the issue?
Thanks!

Apparently it’s not exactly a time thing. I tried a five-minute delay and I was still able to log in. Instead, I just experienced it, in both Firefox and Opera, after closing and then restarting those browsers. I thought maybe it was due to the fact that I was switching between browsers after entering name and password but before entering the 2FA code, but that doesn’t seem to explain it: on retry, I was able to log in on both.
Here’s what I got, on each of those two browsers, when I first tried to log in. In both cases, I entered the 2FA code within 30 seconds of commencing the login sequence.
… Oh, sorry, can’t embed image here. OK, here’s the link:

Hello there,
Ok, so just to check – are you using Google Authenticator or similar with 2FA?
If timing isn’t a potential issue here, are you able to detail the physical steps you’re taking that are leading into issues please?
This will help us to triage this further.
Many thanks.
